@edgarblythe,
Thanks again for your comments, edgar. You sent me searching again, buddy.

John Townes Van Zandt[1] (March 7, 1944 – January 1, 1997), best known as Townes Van Zandt, was an American Texas Country-folk music singer-songwriter, performer, and poet. Many of his songs, including "If I Needed You," "To Live is to Fly," and "No Place to Fall" are considered standards of their genre.

While alive, Van Zandt was labeled as a cult musician; though he had a small and devoted fanbase, he never had a successful album or single, and even had difficulty keeping his recordings in print. In 1983, six years after Emmylou Harris had first popularized it, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard covered his song "Pancho and Lefty," scoring a number one hit on the Billboard country music charts. Despite achievements like these, the bulk of his life was spent touring various dive bars, often living in cheap motel rooms, backwoods cabins, and on friends' couches. Van Zandt was notorious for his drug addictions, alcoholism, and his tendency to tell tall tales. When young, he was diagnosed with manic depression, and insulin shock therapy erased much of his long-term memory.

Rex's Blues was great.

Another cognitive insight moment. I was looking for a quote and found this one by Peter Ustinov.

Since we are destined to live out our lives in the prison of our minds, our one duty is to furnish it well~Peter Ustinov

So here's a tribute to one of my favorite actors.

@edgarblythe,
Wow! I know Tunes of Glory, edgar. Don't ask me why, but I found the lyrics to that song. They don't quite fit the rhythm, but here they are.

Now when the pipes are ringing and the kilts are swinging.
And your heart is singing as you gaily march along.
You can hear the story that is brave and roary
In the tunes of glory of an old Scots song.

If you're standing near them and you ever hear them.
You will want to cheer them as you feel the glory there.
Because the rhythm fills you and the drum beat wills you.
And the music thrills you of the old Black Bear.

Brave are the orders we carry before us
Brave are the hearts that will lift in the chorus
Hear them playing, hear them saying
That's the story in the tunes of glory

When the pipes are ringing and the kilts are swinging.
And your heart is singing as you gaily march along.
You can hear the story that is brave and roary
In the tunes of glory of an old Scots song.

Brave are the orders we carry before us

Hear them playing, hear them saying

Because the rhythm fills you and the drum beat wills you.
And the music thrills you of the old Black Bear.

Brave are the orders we carry before us
Brave are the hearts that will lift in the chorus
Hear them playing, hear them saying
That's the story in the tunes of glory

Your Tunes of Glory reminded me of The Bridge on the River Kwai. Amazing that I found this one instead of The Colonel Bogey March.

When Paul Simon wrote Bridge Over Troubled Water, he insisted that Art Garfunkle should do the vocal. Garfunkle protested and insisted the song was better suited to Simon's voice. In the end, Garfunkle did the honors.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, I don't know Lou Monte, but Please Mr. Columbus was good. He also reminded me of Stan Freberg. Incidentally, thanks for the info on Paul and Simon.

Here he is doing Chris.

@edgarblythe,
Fantastic, edgar. I had forgotten what a great voice Dinah Shore had. I only recall her doing a commercial for Chevrolet. Love that song, incidentally.

Here's one that I like. I know the cat man did this first, but it's nice to have different versions.

Hello Miss Letty, edgar, and all...

I've just been watching a bit of Barry Lyndon which sent me looking for the theme song.

edgar, thanks again for your comments. You're right about Cat Stevens.

Flower lady, welcome back. Fantastic Handel classic. Just found out that "Serabande" had to do with dance and chord structure. Great one!

jcboy. I cannot believe Dame Shirley's talent. I know her best for the James Bond films. Thanks for that one.

edgar, I did that one to match your Blue Lagoon, so here is Cat with his version.

I have learned much about Shirley Bassey over the past week. She does a wider range of material than I thought.

edgar, Dobie Gray's Drift Away is great.

Yep, Cat does it better.

Edie Brickell, I don't know, Texas, but she wasn't bad doing "the jester's" song.

Gonna say goodnight a bit early as they are predicting that Irene will hit here Thursday.(Thor's Day Sad )

Here's my goodnight song.

Thanks for that Scheherazade.
Good Night Irene is one I used to hear a lot by the Weavers. Also Jerry Lee Lewis.

Leon Redbone - Lazy Bones.

Lazy bones, sleepin' in the sun
How you 'spect to get your day's work done?
Ya never get your day's work done
Lyin' in the noonday sun

Lazy bones, sleepin' in the shade
How you 'gonna get your corn meal made?
You'll never get your corn meal made
Lyin' in the noon day shade

When the taters need sprayin'
I bet you keep prayin'
The bugs fall off the vine
And when you go fishin'
I bet you keep wishin'
The fish don't grab at your line

Lazy bones, dozin' through the day
How you 'spect to make a dime that way?
You'll never make a dime that way
Never heard a word I say

When the taters need sprayin'
I bet you keep prayin'
The bugs fall off of the vine
And when you go fishin'
I bet you keep wishin'
The fish don't grab at your line

Lazy bones, dozin' through the day
How you 'spect to make a dime that way?
You'll never make a dime that way
Never heard a word I say
