Good morning from Florida. It's gonna be a .. "bright, bright, sunshiny day.." Remember that song?

edgar, Your goodnight song was good and thanks for the comments on Andy. I had no idea that Frankie sang High Noon. You and our Brit hurry back.

Brit, Loved all your Stevie Wonder songs, but especially enjoyed Sting's Englishman in New York. Would you care for another cup of tea dear?

The wake up song from Atlantis:

Been watching tropical storm Bret and it made me think of Bret Harte and The Outcasts of Poker Flat. Bret was also a poet.

Rock, Welcome back. Don't know Little Feat, but one reference said that it was a reference to The Beatles. Thanks for the introduction. I promise that I won't play Your Feets Too Big. Razz

edgar, Thanks again for your comments, and I adore Brook's Bowl Weevil. Know that one for sure.

Speaking of the Fab Four, here's one that I didn't realize they had done.

Jerry Ragovoy, a songwriter who created works made famous by the Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin and Miriam Makeba, has died at the age of 80.

Ragovoy died last week at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. Jim Steinblatt, a representative for the performance rights group ASCAP, says he died of complications from a stroke.

Ragovoy wrote Time Is On My Side,recorded originally by jazz trombonist Kai Winding, then by soul singer Irma Thomas before a rock version was created by the Rolling Stones and Piece of My Heart, recorded by Erma Franklin (sister to Aretha) before it was made famous by Janis Joplin.

Joplin also recorded his My Baby, Get It While You Can, Cry Baby and Try (Just a Little Bit Harder).

Ragovoy, who wrote some of his songs under the pseudonym, Norman Meade, was a white Jew from Philadelphia who became behind-the-scenes figure in East Coast soul music in the 1960s.

He wrote Howard Tate's Get It While You Can and Lorraine Ellison's Stay With Me and was a prominent producer and arranger at Philadelphia's Chancellor Records.

He also produced gospel singer Garnet Mimms, writing Cry Baby for him long before it was rerecorded by Joplin.

Over the years, his songs were recorded by greats like Elvis Presley, B.B. King and Aretha Franklin and he wrote Pata Pata for Miriam Makeba.

Ragovoy also was a producer for artists including Bonnie Raitt, Diana Ross and Dionne Warwick.

@edgarblythe,
The world of music will miss Jerry, edgar.

Love Time is On My Side by The Stones

I know Kai Winding because my friend Bill played a lot of his stuff on trombone.

Here he is with More. What a great group of jazz artists.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBj9KMQ2BNs

and, the lyrics.

More than the greatest love the world has known
This is the love I'll give to you alone
More than the simple words I try to say
I only live to love you more each day

More than you'll ever know my arms long to hold you so
My life will be in your keeping, waking, sleeping, laughing, weeping
Longer than always is long long time,
But far beyond forever you'll be mine

I know I never lived before and my heart is very sure
No one else could love you more

@edgarblythe,
edgar, loved The Fab Four's Eight Days a Week. Didn't know that one by them.

Funny version of The Mikado. Don't know if Sullivan would laugh like I did. I remember Three Little Maids Are We, however.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with a birthday girl. First, some info.

Vikki Carr (born Florencia Bisenta de Casillas Martinez Cardona July 19, 1941) is an American singer of Mexican ancestry from El Paso, Texas. She has performed in a variety of music genres, including jazz, pop and country, but has enjoyed her greatest success singing in Spanish.

Now, the song for the evening.

Great having Rockhead and Barry the Brit with us today.

From Letty with love and a smile of gratitude

When Vikki first became a successful artist I listened to her quite a bit. Not so much anymore, but I still like her singing.

@edgarblythe,
Just got my signal back, edgar, and thanks for the comment. Don't run too fast. It's hot out there.

Today is Carlos Santana's birthday, so here is a tribute to him plus some relaxing music. I think we could all use it.
