Hmmm. Well, George, why is it that many men want a son, and then when the mission is accomplished, they never have time? Yes, that is most certainly a "telling" song. Thanks, buddy.
Listeners, some songs were meant to he simply heard; others were meant to be felt, and still others analyzed, but in the final "take" it is both the words and the music, when coupled, that define the heart and perhaps the soul.
Yes, Francis, heartbreaking!

Father and Son (Cat Stevens)
Father
It's not time to make a change,
Just relax, take it easy.
You're still young, that's your fault,
There's so much you have to know.
Find a girl, settle down,
If you want you can marry.
Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy.
I was once like you are now, and I know that it's not easy,
To be calm when you've found something going on.
But take your time, think a lot,
Why, think of everything you've got.
For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not.
Son
How can I try to explain, when I do he turns away again.
It's always been the same, same old story.
From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen.
Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away.
I know I have to go.
Father
It's not time to make a change,
Just sit down, take it slowly.
You're still young, that's your fault,
There's so much you have to go through.
Find a girl, settle down,
if you want you can marry.
Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy.
(Son-- Away Away Away, I know I have to
Make this decision alone - no)
Son
All the times that I cried, keeping all the things I knew
inside,
It's hard, but it's harder to ignore it.
If they were right, I'd agree, but it's them They know not me.
Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away.
I know I have to go.
(Father-- Stay Stay Stay, Why must you go and
make this decision alone?)

Ah, dys, the cat man knew, I guess. Strange, folks, other than the fact that he went through phases as we all do, his conversion to Islam was another experiment in searching.
I Remember You Lyrics
Was it in Tahiti?
Were we on the Nile?
Long, long ago,
Say an hour or so
I recall that I saw your smile.
I remember you,
You're the one who made
My dreams come true
A few kisses ago.
I remember you,
You're the one who said
"I love you, too," I do.
Didn't you know?
I remember, too,
A distant bell,
And stars that fell like rain
Out of the blue.
When my life is through,
And the angels ask me to recall
The thrill of them all,
Then I shall tell them
I remember you.
Wow! folks. It isn't even "that time of night" Now let's move with some Ray Charles:
Hey
mama
don't you treat me wrong
come and love your daddy all night long
alright now
hey hey
alright
See that girl with a diamond ring
she knows how to shake that thing
alright now
hey hey
hey hey
Tell your mama
tell your papa
I'm gonna sing you back to Arkansas
oh yes
mam
you don't do right
don't you're right
oh play it
boy
When you see me in misery
Come on baby
see my feet right
yeah
hey hey
alright
See the girl with the red dress on
She can do the birdland all night long
oh yeah
yeah
what'd I say
alright
Well
Tell me what'd I say
Tell me what'd I say
right now
Tell me what'd I say
Tell me what'd I say
right now
Tell me what'd I say
And
I wanna know
tell me I wanna know right now
Tell me I wanna know
Tell me I wanna know
right now
Tell me I wanna know...
HEY (HEY) OH (OH) ...
One more time
tell me one more time...

Heard today for the very first time "It's a wonderful world .." by Maceo Parker/Candy Dulfer - I have my doubts, if they used the handkerchief in the Louis-Armstrong-style (although, the sax sound really .... funky  )
I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
The colours of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shakin' hands, sayin' "How do you do?"
They're really saying "I love you"
I hear babies cryin', I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Oh yeah

Hey, Walter. not familiar with Parker and Dulfer, but if you say it was funky sax, that's a telling thing. <smile>
So, listeners, while everything's coming up roses for our man in Germany, how about a little country:
Girl In The Blue Velvet Band
One night while out for a ramble
The hour was just about nine
I met a young maiden in Frisco
On the corner of Geary and Pine
On her face there was beauty of nature
And her eyes just seemed to expand
Her hair was so rich and so brilliant
Entwined in a blue velvet band
We strolled down the street together
In my pocket she placed her small hand
She planted the evidence on me
The girl in the blue velvet band
I heard the scream of the siren
And the girl in the blue velvet band
She left me to face all the trouble
With a diamond that was worth ten grand
They sent me to San Quentin for stealing
God knows I'm an innocent man
The guilty one now she lie's dying
The girl in the blue velvet band
Last night when bed-time was ringin
Standing there close to the bars
I fancied I heard a voice calling
Far out in the ocean of stars
I'll be out in a year and I'm leaving
But I'll carry the name of a man
That served ten years in prison
For the girl in the blue velvet band
And when I get out I'll endeavor
To live in some other land
And I'll bid farewell to old Frisco
And the girl in the blue velvet band
For some reason, folks, my oldest sister loved that song. Even anthropologists have a little country in them once in a while.

Ray Charles being pensive:
Sad and lonely all the time
That's because I've got a worried mind
You know the world is in an uproar
The danger zone is everywhere, everywhere
Just read your paper
And you'll see
Just exactly what keeps worryin' me
Yeah, you'll see the world is in an uproar
The danger zone is everywhere
My love for the world is like always
For the world is a part of me
That's why I'm so afraid
Of the progress that's being made
Toward eternity
Every morning, noon, and night
Finds me hoping that everything's alright
Mm-hmm, the world is in an uproar
The danger zone is everywhere

Hey, edgar. You know, it takes a worried man to sing a worried song..I'm worried now but I won't be worried long.
Wow! Where did that song come from?

thanks, edgar. Things get stuck in my mind and suddenly they surface. As I explained earlier to McTag, my sister and I did the song over song thing with Love oh Love or careless love and Have I been Away too Long.

Now here's a perplexing news item, listeners:
ijuana Sentence Enrages Australians
AP - Fri May 27, 3:47 PM ET
BALI, Indonesia - An Australian woman was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison Friday for smuggling nine pounds of marijuana onto Bali island, provoking shouts of "Liar!" from her mother. Schapelle Corby, 27, wept as the verdict was announced in a case that attracted enormous media interest in Australia, where many people believe her claims that the drugs were planted in her luggage. She could have faced the death penalty, but prosecutors requested a life sentence.
Death sentence?

Well, dys, I didn't see the "bimbo" (whatever that means) but I was stunned at the fact that she could have gotten the death sentence.
Incidentally, I got the bit about Texas. <smile>
I hope more of our audience will discuss this issue. In the meantime, I found a song in the archives and I have no idea who sang or wrote it:
Mind
Reality's a dream
A game in which I seem
To never find out just what I am
I don't know if I'm an actor or ham
A shamen or sham
But if you don't mind
I don't mind
I'm lost without a clue
So how can I undo
The tangle of these webs I keep weaving
I don't know if I should be believing
Deceptive perceiving
But if you don't mind
I don't mind
I used to bet that you didn't care
But gambling never got me anywhere
Each time I used to feel so sure
Something about you made me doubt you more
How can you convince me
When everything I see
Just makes me feel you're putting me down
And if it's true this pathetic clown'll
Keep hanging around
That's if you don't mind
I don't mind
I used to bet that you didn't care
But gambling never got me anywhere
Each time I used to be so sure
Something about you made me doubt you more
I even think you hate me when you call me on the phone
And sometimes when we go out I wish I'd stayed at home
And when I'm dreaming or just lying in my bed
I think you've got it in for me
Is it all in my head is it in my head
How can you convince me
When everything I see
Just makes me feel you're putting me down
And if it's true this pathetic clown'll
Keep hanging around
That's if you don't mind
I don't mind
I don't mind
Any help on locating the writer/singer of this song would be appreciated.

Kingston Trio - The Tijuana Jail
We went one day about a month ago (a-ha-ha)
To have a little fu-un (a-ha) Mexico
We ended up in a gambling spot (oh yeah) a-ha-ha
Where the liquor flow-owed and the dice were hot
So here we a-are in the Tijuana Jail
Ain't got no frie-ends to go our bail
So here we'll sta-ay 'cause we can't pa-a-a-a-ay
Just send our ma-ail to the Tijuana Jail
I was shootin' dice, rakin' in the dough (long green)
And then I hea-ard the whistle blow
We started to run when a man in blue
Said "senor, come with me 'cause I want you."
So here we a-are in the Tijuana Jail
Ain't got no frie-ends to go our bail
So here we'll sta-ay 'cause we can't pay
Just send our mail to the Tijuana Jail (shout)
Just five hundred dollars and they'll set us free (Mucho coyote)
I couldn't raise a penny if ya threatened me
I know five "hunderd" don't sound like much
But just try to find somebody to touch
So here we are in the Tijuana Jail
Ain't got no frie-ends to go our bail
So here we'll sta-ay 'cause we can't pay
Just send our mai-il to the Tijuana Jail
So here we a-are in the Tijuana Ja-a-a-a-il
Ain't got no frie-eh-ends to go our bail
So here we'll sta-ay 'cause we can't pa-ay
Just send our mai-il to the Tijuana Jail

What's to discuss? the drug laws in Thailand are severe. Those caught with drugs get long sentences- or a short one.
Thais seem to like show trials and making an example of western tourists (whom they probably resent as much as they need them) so the message is clear- check your own bags, and don't complain too much after you are caught.

Good morning, WA2K radio.
Beautiful day in my neighborhood, listeners.
McTag, Do you think that possession of drugs should carry a death sentence? That was the only part of the news item that surprised me.
edgar, The Tijuana Jail song was quite appropriate given our bimbo item.
Let's have a cup of coffee, folks, then on to our regularly scheduled program.

It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood
by Fred Rogers
It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor.
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?...
It's a neighborly day in this beauty wood,
A neighborly day for a beauty.
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?...
I've always wanted to have a neighbor just like you.
I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you.
So, let's make the most of this beautiful day.
Since we're together we might as well say:
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
Won't you be my neighbor?
Won't you please,
Won't you please?
Please won't you be my neighbor?

The Death Penalty for the possession of drugs/dealing with drugs have been established traditonally in Malaysia, Pakistan and Turkey (in the latter now changed to lifelong, since they abandoned death penalty).
