Before I was born, late one night, my papa said everything's alright
The doctor paid, mama laid down, with a semitone bouncing all around
Cause the beebop stork was about to arrive
Mama gave birth to the hand-jive

I could barely walk when I looked in town, when I was three, I pushed the fly
While jumping would I move my legs, and I saw the dance while I gathered A's
Bowed and clapped, I was only five
And I danced 'em all, he's born to hand-jive

Oh yeah, yeah, yeah - everybody

Born to hand-jive, baby, born to hand-jive, baby - yeah

How low can you go, how low can you go, how low can you go, how low can you go

Higher, higher, higher and higher
Now can you hand-jive, baby, oh can you hand-jive, baby
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, born to hand-jive, oh yeah!

When there ain't no room for you to dance,
There's another way to find romance.
Hand-jive, hand-jive, baby,
Hand-jive, hand-jive, baby,
C'mon and sit and hand-jive with me.

Roll your hands to the left,
Your hands to theright
Be myhand-jive baby for tonight.
Hand-jive, hand-jive, baby,
Hand-jive, hand-jive, baby,
C'mon and sit and hand-jive with me.

Ev'rybody's doin' it with style and ease,
Then you beat out the rhythm on both of your knees.
Hand-jive, hand-jive, baby,
Hand-jive, hand-jive, baby,
C'mon and sit and hand-jive with me.

You clap your hands a one and a two,
Put your fists together how I love you,
Cross your hands above and below,
C'mon now baby, go, cat, go.

Tap your right elbow, the left and then,
All you do is start over again.
Hand-jive, hand-jive, baby,
Hand-jive, hand-jive, baby,
C'mon and sit and hand-jive with me.

and a great mid morning to you, Raggedy. Wow! timely updates, honey.

I believe it was Herb Geller who played Bess so sweetly:

Bess, you is my woman now,
You is, you is!
An' you mus' laugh an' sing an' dance
For two instead of one.
Want no wrinkle on yo' brow,
Nohow,
Because de sorrow of de past is all done done
Oh, bess, my bess!

Bess:
Porgy, i's yo' woman now,
I is, I is!
An' I ain't never goin' nowhere 'less you shares de fun.
Dere's no wrinkle on my brow,
Nohow,
But I ain't goin'! you hear me sayin',
If you ain' goin', wid you I'm stayin'!

Porgy, i's yo' woman now!
I's yours forever -
Mornin' time an' evenin' time an'
Summer time an' winter time.

Porgy:
Mornin' time an' evenin' time an'
Summer time an' winter time.
Bess, you got yo' man.

Bess, you is my woman now and forever.*
Dis life is jes' begun,
Bess, we two is one
Now an' forever.
Oh, bess, don't min' dose women.
You got yo' porgy.
I knows you means it,
I seen it in yo' eyes, bess.
We'll go swingin'
Through de years a-singin'.

Bess:
Mornin' time an' evenin' time an'
Summer time an' winter time.

Porgy:
Mornin' time an' evenin' time an'
Summer time an' winter time.

Bess:
Oh, my porgy, my man, porgy.

Porgy: [simultaneously] my bess, my bess.

Bess: from dis minute I'm tellin' you, I keep dis vow: porgy, i's yo'
Woman now.

Porgy: [simultaneously]
From dis minute I'm tellin' you, I keep dis vow:
Oh, my bessie, we's happy now. we is one now.

Well, listeners. I think I just gave myself chills.

(Hey baby, what do I have to do to make a hit with you?)

You gotta dance with me Henry (all right baby)
Dance with me Henry (don't mean maybe)
Rock with me Henry (any old time)

Roll on, roll on, roll on

You better stop your stallin'
It's intermission in a minute
So you better get with it
Dance with me Henry
You better dance while the music goes on
Roll on, roll on, roll on

Oooooooo-wee

You better feel that boogie beat
And get the lead out of your feet

You gotta dance with me Henry
Dance with me Henry
Rock with me Henry

You better dance while the music goes on

Roll roll roll
Roll roll roll
Rock rock rock
Rock rock rock
Roll roll roll
Roll on, roll on, roll on

Demonstrated by 6-5 Special's Juke Box Girl, Julie Tucker. I hate to do this, but I calculate that Julie celebrated her 65th birthday in 2001.

The tune was:
Hand-Jive, by Betty Smith Group, Decca F10986, 1957

Everyone seems to have a definition of life, do they not?

Hmmmm. If we continue dancing will that get hebba back among us?

DANCING IN THE DARK

I get up in the evening
and I ain't got nothing to say
I come home in the morning
I go to bed feeling the same way
I ain't nothing but tired
Man I'm just tired and bored with myself
Hey there baby, I could use just a little help

You can't start a fire
You can't start a fire without a spark
This gun's for hire
even if we're just dancing in the dark

Message keeps getting clearer
radio's on and I'm moving 'round the place
I check my look in the mirror
I wanna change my clothes, my hair, my face
Man I ain't getting nowhere
I'm just living in a dump like this
There's something happening somewhere
baby I just know that there is

You can't start a fire
you can't start a fire without a spark
This gun's for hire
even if we're just dancing in the dark

You sit around getting older
there's a joke here somewhere and it's on me
I'll shake this world off my shoulders
come on baby this laugh's on me

Stay on the streets of this town
and they'll be carving you up alright
They say you gotta stay hungry
hey baby I'm just about starving tonight
I'm dying for some action
I'm sick of sitting 'round here trying to write this book
I need a love reaction
come on now baby gimme just one look

You can't start a fire sitting 'round crying over a broken heart
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
You can't start a fire worrying about your little world falling apart
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Hey baby

Hmmmm. The Boss?

Yo, guys

For those paying attention, the mini-meet in Manchester between yours truly and Smorgs is off, due to circumstances beyond the control of the management.

So I'll have to find an alternative venue for this evening- and the usual place has no karaoke, what a shame.

Ah, McTag, that's too bad. Well, we can entice Bob to do it for you.

Guess what, folks. I discovered an interesting thing.

Question of the day:

What is the etymology of the word Karaoke?

Don't cheat, now! <smile>

Well, Francis, Why am I not surprised. Anyone who can identify a statue in Finnland can certainly play the etymology game.

For Letty:

Lang Jonny
Song: Second Guessing
Album:
[" " CD]

(David Z & Bruce McCabe, 1998 David Z (BMI)/Ryan Cory Music (BMI))
Second guessin' first impressions
There you go again
Rushing off in all directions
Since I don't know when
All day long you're building walls
You're building walls all day
Putting ceilings on your feelings
When they should fly away
(following verse is not sung in Jonny's version but is included in lyrics)
Don't you think it's time you quit it
Don't you think it's time you admit it
Your heart is more worthy of trust
Than the thoughts
in your mind
That sit there gathering dust
Everything you're looking for
You'll know when it's real
You'll know when you've found it
By the way you feel
Writing down your deepest emotions
With your pen in hand
Your piece of paper flew out the window
You watched it try and land
You felt bad as it flew out of sight
A part of your heart alone in the night
All of a sudden you didn't mind it
When you pictured that lonely stranger that would find it
Everything you're looking for
You'll know when it's real
You'll know when you've found it
By the way you feel

Laughing

Listeners, this station has turned into a.................

1) Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree,

Merry, merry king of the bush is he,

Laugh, Kookaburra, Laugh, Kookaburra,

Gay your life must be.

2) Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree

Eating all the gumdrops he can see

Stop, Kookaburra, Stop, Kookaburra

Leave some there for me.

3) Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree,

Counting all the monkeys he can see

Stop, Kookaburra, Stop, Kookaburra,

That's no monkey, that's me.

Soooooo, we now have vultures and monkeys and gumdrops and such,
Taggers and Francis you're really too much.

I just went looking for a song about "guessing" and found one that fit.
