in passing, i'd like to pay tribute to that famous turtle quartet of yesteryear, the mutant teenage ninjas: Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Rafael, with a Cowabunga!

Did you know the initial Ninja Turtles stories were gory sword and slaughter tales in a magazine format black and white comic? It was TV that transformed them into the loveable characters most of us remember.

My sons loved Ninja Turtles. Cowabunga!

Good morning WA2K radio. All this talk of turtles and mutants and such reminded me of the endangered species of sea turtles here in Florida.

I have watched those lumbering giants come up on the beach at night and lay their eggs in the sand. Believe me, folks, it is one awesome sight.

I find myself wondering, listeners, if those females could speak, what would they say? It is patently insane to me that man continues to plunder our planet. In the news this morning, it seems that Brazil is fighting a losing battle in trying to save the forests. Deforestation is what has prompted the vanishing of many civilizations.

Well, Memorial Day in America is almost upon us, and who knows what festivities will ensue which have absolutely nothing to do with remembering.

LONDON - A 17-year-old girl who took part in a reality show in which families lived as 19th-century settlers in the wilds of Australia was found dead in the woods near her home, prompting the network on Monday to delay the British broadcast.


Carina Stephenson and her family spent four months in Australia last year filming "The Colony," which focused on how modern families would cope with the rudimentary equipment available to British and Irish settlers in Australia in the 19th century. Families wore 19th-century clothing and used the tools of the time.

Police said Stephenson's body was found Saturday in woods in Branton, the northern England town where she lived. She was last seen on May 18 when she left home on her bike, saying she was going to see friends.

Police said her death did not appear to be suspicious but did not provide other details.

"The Colony" has aired in Australia and is being screened in Ireland. It had been scheduled to start airing in Britain on June 5.

"After consultation with the Stephenson family and out of respect for Carina and her family in this very difficult period, we have decided to postpone the series until September 2005," said a spokesman for Sky Television's History Channel.
