Snow in Summer
Dys, your song mentioned Snow in Summer. Thought you would enjoy seeing a planting of Snow in Summer. They have silvery gray foliage topped by masses of tiny white flowers in Spring. I used a lot of them in the landscape I designed for the front entry area of my office building in California.

"....slipping in your deep green heart...." What a beautiful line, dys.

C.J. Please don't eat-drive-talk on a cell phone and let our station distract you from your appointed task and give that little Jane a big hug from Letty.

BBB, that is the most beautiful border of white that I have ever witnessed, right listeners? It would be so perfect as a ground cover in front of my home, and it would be the only snow that we might know. <smile>

"....hope perched like a cardinal in the bleeding tree...."

I saw a cardinal in my yard today and I dubbed him Richlieu.

Do you have names for your wild things, folks?

Good morning listeners. aggie the Great will be along to fill you in on important birth dates. In the meantime let me tell you of Rosemary Clooney who was all over the charts when I was a kid.

You won't believe this but I just aquired an album called "Brazil" that she did in 2000 with John Pizzarelli. It's gorgeous...she's still got the pipes

Just one more thing Letty.
Although Hendrix did the most famous version, I heard Wild Thing by the Troggs, a British group, way back in my teens. And the background on the song and author Chip Taylor is tres interesting.

Chip Taylor is the professional name of American songwriter John Wesley Voight (born in 1940).

After a failed start at a career as a golf pro, he became a musical performer. However, his success came from songwriting, in which he worked both alone and with other songwriters such as Al Gorgoni, Billy Vera, Ted Darryl, and Jerry Ragavoy. His best known songs are "Wild Thing" (originally written for The Troggs) and "Angel of the Morning." His other songs include the pop hits "I Can't Let Go," "Make Me Belong to You," "I Can Make It With You." "Step Out of Your Mind," "Country Girl City Man," "I'll Hold Out My Hand," and "Try (Just a Little Bit Harder)", and the country hits "Sweet Dream Woman," and "Son of a Rotten Gambler."

In the 1970s Taylor gave up the music business to become a professional gambler. He began performing and recording again in 1993.

He is the younger brother of actor Jon Voight. His niece is Angelina Jolie.

Panz, that was a fantastic update. So many things are filled in for us here on our radio station, folks. Strange, John Voight was one of the stars in National Treasure. He did a great job.

Back later, folks.

A note to DJ, folks.

I just got a letter from my sister announcing another family reunion in Virginia and requesting a donation for my dad's side of the family's cemetery.

For big sis:

You're just too much,
And just too very, very,
To ever be in that old cemetery.

Today's Highlight in History:

On May 23, 1934, bank robbers Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were shot to death in a police ambush in Bienville Parish, La.

On this date:

In 1430, Joan of Arc was captured by the Burgundians, who sold her to the English.

In 1533, the marriage of England's King Henry VIII to Catherine of Aragon was declared null and void.

In 1701, Captain William Kidd was hanged in London after being convicted of piracy and murder.

In 1788, South Carolina became the eighth state to ratify the U.S. Constitution.

In 1937, industrialist John D. Rockefeller died in Ormond Beach, Fla.

Now back to the music.

For Don1:

I'm enery the eighth I am,
enery the eighth I am, I am.
I got married to the widow next door,
She's been married seven times before,
And everyone was an enery,
Wouldn't take a Willie or a Sam,
I'm her eighth old man, I'm enery,
Enery the eighth I am.

Very Happy

What was that one they used for Monty Python, "Liberty Bell"?

Hey, McTag, Can you hum a few bars?

Be kind to your webbed-footed friends,
For a duck may be somebody's mother.

Is that it, Brit? Razz

Hmmmm. I remember this one, somewhat:

Belle, Belle, My Liberty Belle
Guy Mitchell
Written by Bob Merrill

(Oh, my liberty Belle, my pretty little belle)
(You kissed me once and you knew darned well)
(Oh, you knew darned well, my liberty belle)
(I'd love nobody but you)

There's pretty girls in Singapore and the Philippines
All along Killarney shore, oh, the fair colleens
There's sweet Fifi from gay Paree and Wilhelmina, too
But Belle, Belle, my liberty belle, I'm still in love with you

Hey, I found out something new today. James Barrie was a Scot.
I watched "Finding Neverland" and loved it; I also found out a lot of tragic stuff about his life and the children upon which he based Peter Pan and their subsequent situations. Very sad, McTag.

What's not evident from dys' poem posts is the simple fact that he has them all in his head. He's quite the memory bank for poems and songs.

I understand the song "Wild Thing" was mentioned earlier. I was especially intrigued that it was written by the same fellow who wrote "Angel of the Morning." If I could indulge in a little music trivia, those two tunes share the same chord changes, with a host of other well-known songs. In other words, you can, with a little practice, sing the lyrics & melody of one over the accompaniment to the other. Here's some other tunes with the same three chords; perhaps other listeners can provide more:

La Bamba
Louie Louie
Twist and Shout
Hang on Sloopy
Sweets for my Sweet
Cherry Cherry
You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling (in part)

Over the weekend I saw Jack Lemon and Shirley Maclaine in The Apartment. The recording of the theme on the twin pianos of Ferante and Taischer (sp?) has been running through my head nonstop for two days.

First, listeners, let's welcome yitwail to our studios. Hmmm. I have done that with my sister, sing one song over another and they work perfectly.

Need some time to think about that, turtle island.

C.I. I have finally come to realize that dys has a tremendous lot of stuff in that mind of his.

My word, edgar. I can barely remember The Apartment, let alone the twin pianos. Yikes!

Let's see now. My dad used to remark on two songs that worked perfectly together.

Mid pleasures and palaces,
Though we may roam,
Be it ever so humble,
There's no place like home.

My voice is ringing my silver bell,
My silver bell,
and I've come to tell you
Of the love that I'm feeling
O'er hill and dell,
Happy we'll ring my silver bell.

That ain't quite it, folks. Afraid I don't have the bonnie banks that dys does.

Got Fats Domino on my mind. Don't hear from him much anymore.

Fats Domino

Blue Monday

Blue Monday how I hate Blue Monday
Got to work like a slave all day
Here come Tuesday, oh hard Tuesday
I'm so tired got no time to play

Here come Wednesday, I'm beat to my socks
My gal calls, got to tell her that I'm out
'Cause Thursday is a hard workin' day
And Friday I get my pay

Saturday mornin', oh Saturday mornin'
All my tiredness has gone away
Got my money and my honey
And I'm out on the stand to play

Sunday mornin' my head is bad
But it's worth it for the time that I had
But I've got to get my rest
'Cause Monday is a mess

Blue Monday
New Order

How does it feel
To treat me like you do
When you've laid your hands upon me
And told me who you are

I thought I was mistaken
I thought I heard your words
Tell me how do I feel
Tell me now how do I feel

Those who came before me
Lived through their vocations
From the past until completion
They will turn away no more

And I still find it so hard
To say what I need to say
But I'm quite sure that you'll tell me
Just how I should feel today

I see a ship in the harbor
I can and shall obey
But if it wasn't for your misfortunes
I'd be a heavenly person today

And I thought I was mistaken
And I thought I heard you speak
Tell me how do I feel
Tell me now how should I feel

Now I stand here waiting

I thought I told you to leave me
While I walked down to the beach
Tell me how does it feel
When your heart grows cold

McTag, yes, it was Liberty Bell by Sousa. Very marchy and bouncy and very funny on Monty Python.

Instead of a weather forecast today, I was reading about a new sight in the universe discovered by a Canadian telescope.

Quote:
In a reversal of roles, a planet has gravitationally bullied its star to rotate in step with the planet's orbit. The star's behavior is similar to that of our Moon, which turns just fast enough to keep one face always pointing at the Earth.

It is unusual, however, to see the larger body - in this case a star 1.4 times the mass of the Sun - being tidally locked by a smaller body.

Then I couldn't resist posting some absolutely gorgeous photos taken in outer space.

Stars
Hum

She thinks she missed the train to Mars, she's out back counting stars.
She thinks she missed the train to Mars, she's out back counting stars.

She's not at work, she's not at school,
she's not in bed, I think I finally broke her.
I bring her home everything I want, and nothing that she needs.

I thought she'd be there holding daisies, she always waits for me.
She thinks she missed the train to Mars, she's out back counting stars.

I found her out back sitting naked looking up and looking dead.
A crumpled yellow piece of paper, with seven nines and tens.

I thought she'd be there holding daisies, she always waits for me.
She thinks she missed the train to Mars, she's out back counting stars.

I thought you'd be there holding daisies, you always wait for me.
She thinks she missed the train to Mars, she's out back counting stars.
