@edgarblythe,
Good afternoon, edgar. Love that Clyde McPhatter song. I Can't Stand Up Alone, is one that I don't know so thanks for the introduction. Thanks also for the funny comment on Insomniacs and The Massacre song.

Here's a birthday girl. Remember The Brady Bunch?

I never watched that show, letty, but I think everybody knows Florence. She does that song much slower than the version I have heard before.

@edgarblythe,
Hey, edgar, I know Sea Cruise but not Frankie Ford. Thanks for the memory.

I was going to do something by Tom Cruise, but the only thing that I ever saw him in that I liked was Top Gun. (Val Kilmer stole the show from him even then)

Love that song by Frank and Betty, but I didn't see the movie, buddy.

RIP, Betty

Garrett (May 23, 1919 – February 12, 2011) was an American actress, comedienne, singer and dancer who originally performed on Broadway before being signed to a film contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. While there, she appeared in several musical films before returning to Broadway and making guest appearances on several television series.

Later, she became known for the roles she played in two prominent 1970s sitcoms: Archie Bunker's liberal neighbor Irene Lorenzo in All in the Family and landlady Edna Babish in Laverne & Shirley.

In later years, Garrett appeared in television series such as Grey's Anatomy, Boston Public and Becker as well as in several Broadway plays and revivals.

She was married to Larry Parks until he died

Today is Federick Douglas' birthday, so here is a tribute to the man.

Frederick's autobiography let me know the man and also opened a window into the world slaves knew in his part of the country.

Yes, but we must remember, edgar: That was then. This is now. The man was indeed a free thinker.

Going to say goodnight with one of my favorite vocalist. A combination of a little fun and a deep feeling of love.

My point was that the slaves did not all live the same way. In the popular literature, they are almost always field hands or house staff. In Douglas's book, we see that he was a ship's caulker and that he was a businessman. He procured his own work and then gave his owner a cut of his wages. It opens up the imagination to ponder others' stories that have not been widely told.

Paolo Nutini - Pencil Full Of Lead.

I’ve got a sheet for my bed
and a pillow for my head;
I’ve got a pencil full of lead
and some water for my throat
I’ve got buttons for my coat; and sails on my boat
So much more than I needed before
I got money in the meter and a two bar heater
Now it’s getting hotter;
Oh it’s only getting sweeter
I got legs on my chair and a head full of hair
Pot and a pan
And some shoes on my feet;
I got a shelf full of books and most of my teeth
A few pairs of socks and a door with a lock;
I got food in my belly and a license for my telly
And nothing’s gonna bring me down

I got a nice guitar and tyres on my car
I got most of the means; and scripts for the scenes
I’m out and about, so I’m in with a shout
I got a fair bit of chat but better than that
Food in my belly and a license for my telly
and nothing's going to bring me down

But best of all (best of all)
I’ve got my baby
But best of all (best of all)
I’ve got my baby
She’s mighty fine and she’s all mine
And nothing’s going to bring me down

Best of all
I've got my baby
But best of all (best of all)
I’ve got my baby
She's mighty fine and she's all mine
And nothing's going to bring me down
She's mighty fine and she's all mine
And nothing's going to bring me down
She's mighty fine and she's all mine
And nothing's going to bring me down
Not today.............................

Joan Osborne - One of Us.

If God had a name, what would it be
And would you call it to his face
If you were faced with him in all his glory
What would you ask if you had just one question?

And yeah yeah God is great yeah yeah God is good
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

What if God was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make his way home

If God had a face what would it look like
And would you want to see
If seeing meant that you would have to believe
In things like Heaven and in Jesus and the saints and all the Prophets

And yeah yeah god is great yeah yeah god is good
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

What if God was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make his way home
Just trying to make his way home....................

And yeah yeah God is great yeah yeah God is so good
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

What if God was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make his way home
Just trying to make his way home
Back up to Heaven all alone
Nobody calling on the phone
Just trying to make his way
Just trying to make his way
Just trying to make his way
Home...............................

Peter Tosh - Pick Myself Up.

Sittin' in the morning sun
And watching all them birds passing by
Oh how sweet they sing
Oh how much I wish that I could fly

And you know I try
I said I try
I try
And I try try try

But I got to
Pick myself up
And dust myself off
And I had to start all over
And every time I start all over
I pick myself up
And dust myself off
And I hade to start all over
And every time I start all over

Sittin' in the midday sun
And wondering where my meal is coming from
After working so hard
Not even piece of bread at the yard

And you know I try
You can imagine how I try
I try yes
And I really try try try
But I got to
Pick myself up
And dust myself off
And I had to start all over
And every time I start all over
I pick myself up
And dust myself off
And I had to start all over
And every time I start all over

Sittin' in the evening sun
Watching them same birds passing by
I've been sittin' and wondering
And waiting for the time to fly

And you know I try
You can imagine how I try
I try yes
And I did try try try try
But I got to
Pick myself up
And dust myself off
And I had to start all over
And every time I start all over
I pick myself up off the ground
And turn myself around
And start all over
And every time I start all over..............

@Letty,
Bocelli is one of those artists I forget how great is his voice, until the next time.

Good morning. I will be back this afternoon.

Hurry back, edgar, and we agree on Andrea. I not only like his voice, but his closed eyelids.

Interesting that you should play The Wagoner's Lad because today is Susan B. Anthony's birthday. Get the connection, Texas?

Rock, loved that song by The Cranberries. Can we call it saucy?

Well, Barry the Brit is down and gone, but we wonder about his toy. At least he's not a big girl's blouse.(insert razz emoticon here)

My favorite was Peter Tosh's song. Love reggae and it is familiar in the sense that it combines the song by George Shearing of Pick yourself up; dust yourself off and start all over again.

I was thinking about how A2K may be a global village, so I decided to let Marshall give our listeners a lecture,

Then, a birthday girl.

First, one of my favorite men.

Now, a fantastic birthday gal.

Sad news, folks.

Dalai Lama nephew hit by car, killed on Fla. walk
AP – FILE-This April 8, 2008 file photo shows Jigme Norbu, left, nephew of the Dalai Lama, standing next to Thupten Donyo.
By MIKE SCHNEIDER, Associated Press Mike Schneider, Associated Press – 14 mins ago
PALM COAST, Fla. – The Dalai Lama's nephew was killed along a Florida coastal highway during one of his long treks to bring awareness to the Tibetan struggle for independence from China, officials said.
Jigme K. Norbu was hit after dark Monday on the side of the unlit highway by an SUV. A Highway Patrol accident report said Norbu, 45, was walking on the white line in the same direction as traffic, on the southbound side of a state highway that runs the length of the state's Atlantic coast.
The driver, 31-year-old Keith R. O'Dell of Palm Coast, was not charged. He and a passenger, his 5-year-old son, were not injured.
Police released few other details. Norbu, who lived in Bloomington, Ind., and was active in a Tibetan rights group there, had started with others Monday on a Valentine's Day "Walk for Tibet" meant to cover some 300 miles from St. Augustine south to West Palm Beach, according to his group, Ambassadors For World Peace.
Norbu was dead when emergency services arrived at the scene, about 25 miles south of St. Augustine on State Highway A1A, the report said.

@Letty,
The Wagoner's Lad is about women's struggle. Easy to get the connection to Susan B, letty.
Been a long time since I even thought about Mashall.
Melissa is a good artist, one that I really don't know.

@Letty,
Lots of walkers are entirely too trusting, walking on the pavement where cars are constantly passing. I am surprised only that more don't get hit.

@edgarblythe,
Love the Everly Brothers' Take a message to Mary, edgar. Thanks for the comments, buddy. It is reported that the Dalai spoke to him just a little bit before he died.

That limo jet is real. It costs around $78.00 an hour. The photo that I put on your "oddities" discussion was the only one that I could find, but after searching for what I saw and heard, I found it to be true.

Remember this song? It came to mind after searching, and also reminds me of booman. Hope he's all right.
