Legendary rock impresario who helped created The Monkees and The Archies, DON KIRSHNER dead at 76.

Kisrhner, the Bronx bred R'n'R promoter died at his home in Boca Raton, Florida from heart failure.

In his long and varied career ,Kirshsner corralled and maintained one of the most impressive music libraries in history from his offices at the famed Brill Building.

Kirshner actually began his career writing commercial jingles with pre-pop star Bobby Darin.

Kirshner's company, Aldon (co-owned with Al Nevins) published music by artists Carole King and Gerry Goffin ("Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow") Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil ("You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling"), as well as Neil Sedaka and Neil Diamond.

He then assembled the pre-fab four The Monkees for TV with Bob Rafelson and Paul Mazursky.

When Davy Jones, Mickey Dolenz, Peter Tork and Mike Nesmith refused to record bubble gum after the success of their first album, Kirshener created a group that never even existed -- The Archies based on the popular comic book series. The band, comprised of studio musicians including singer Ron dante, hit Super Hit Number One with "Sugar Sugar".

In the 1970s Kirshsner hosted a late night music anthology series Don Kirshner's Rock Concert which banned lip syncing in favor of live performances.

He show featured everyone from Bruce Springsteen to the Rolling Stones to David Bowie and his deadpan delivery was mocked by a then unknown Paul Shaffer on Saturday Night Live.

In 2007 Kirshner was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame.

euroGeorge, Paddy Casey's Saints and Sinners was wonderful. Thanks for the introduction.

tch, What I liked about Cats Who Know by Peggy was that acoustic bass in the background. GREAT! Also like What a Difference a Day Makes by Dinah. (is there anyone finer?) is fantastic. Glad you appreciate learning on our wee radio station.

edgar, Oliver's Jean was a wonderful version. I had only heard it by Rod McKuen. Dinah's Unforgettable reminded me of Nat. Thanks, buddy.

What great information on Mr. Kirshner, Texas. Often, we overlook the giants that are behind the scenes.

Today is Kevin Costner's birthday, and more synchronicity, y'all. The Untouchables was one of my favorite movies that he did. I can still see Robert de Niro as Capone crying as he listened to Caruso.

Happy birthday Kevin.

Did someone mention Welsh Rabbit? I got some at the store. Razz

@eurocelticyankee,
Missed your song about Babylon. I should have followed more carefully. That's what reminded me of Welsh rabbit, buddy. Don't know David Grey, but he is good.

Go Your Own Way, Irish. I have heard many stories about the difference between rarebit and rabbit. Thanks for Fleetwood Mac.

edgar, I love that one by Bert Kaempfert. Wonderland by Night is great.

Today is Cary Grant's birthday, so I'm going two ways.

first a little info on the man.

Archibald Alexander Leach (January 18, 1904 – November 29, 1986), better known by his stage name Cary Grant, was an English-American actor. With his distinctive yet not quite placeable Mid-Atlantic accent, he was noted as perhaps the foremost exemplar of the debonair leading man: handsome, virile, charismatic, and charming

Now this tribute and it reminds me of Cavfancier/Paul and Prince Gautam.

@edgarblythe,
Great one by Bobby, edgar. Don't know That's the Way Love is.

Another new one, too. Bobby Brandt is fantastic. Loved the song, Alberta Bound, and the visuals. Thanks again, Texas.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with two songs.

First, Debussy.

Goodnight all.
