Good morning WA2K folks.

Ate a bit too much of the wrong stuff last evening, so I'll just let ABBA say it for me to all of you.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4069PUk3aM0&feature=related

And, because I met a snow bird Canadian last evening, one from Oscar.

The lyrics to the A train, and our poem form today, y'all.

You must take the A train
To go to Sugar Hill way up in Harlem

If you miss the A train
You'll find you missed the quickest way to Harlem

Hurry, get on, now it's coming
Listen to those rails a-humming

All aboard, get on the A train
Soon you will be on Sugar Hill in Harlem

A Noiseless Patient Spider
By Walt Whitman
1819-1892
A noiseless patient spider,
I mark'd where on a little promontory it stood isolated,
Mark'd how to explore the vacant vast surrounding,
It launch'd forth filament, filament, filament out of itself,
Ever unreeling them, ever tirelessly speeding them.

And you O my soul where you stand,
Surrounded, detached, in measureless oceans of space,
Ceaselessly musing, venturing, throwing, seeking the spheres to
connect them,
Till the bridge you will need be form'd, till the ductile anchor hold,
Till the gossamer thread you fling catch somewhere, O my soul

Ray Charles, I'd forgotten just how good Ray was.

Mostly, you see him when he was old, after he had lost a few things. When he was at his peak, he made some of the best vocal recordings ever, in my view.

euroGeorge, Don't know that one by U2, but I enjoyed listening. I love ABBA!

edgar, Always enjoy Louis Prima. That's where I got The Happy Wanderer.

We Are the World and your remarks from Elvis, made me feel better.

If I missed anyone, forgive me. This has not been one of my better days.

Two songs for the afternoon, y'all.

One from a birthday girl that I do not know, so here's a bit of info on her.

Aaliyah Dana Haughton (January 16, 1979 – August 25, 2001), who performed under the mononym Aaliyah (pronounced /əˈliːə/), was an American recording artist, actress and model. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, and was raised in Detroit, Michigan. At an early age, she appeared on the television show Star Search and performed in concert alongside Gladys Knight. At age 12, Aaliyah signed with Jive Records and Blackground Records by her uncle, Barry Hankerson. He introduced her to R. Kelly, who became her mentor, as well as lead songwriter and producer of her debut album, Age Ain't Nothing but a Number. The album sold three million copies in the United States and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). After facing allegations of an illegal marriage with Kelly, Aaliyah ended her contract with Jive and signed to Atlantic Records.

Now her song.

My favorite Ray Charles number.

What 'd I Say is a great one, of course. I have heard of Aaliah, but can't say I ever knew her music. The song you played is a good one, letty.

@Letty,
Liked the Four Lads Ed & Ray Charles Miss Letty.
Very sad about Aaliyah, I'd say she had a promising
movie career ahead of her too. I seen her in one film
"Queen of the Damned".

edgar, Love Moments to Remember by The Four Lads.

euroGeorge, Wow! that looked like one scary movie. How sad that the lady died so young, thanks.

Thank you, too, tcb. Glad that you are once again with us.

Today is Debbie Allen's birthday. Don't know her so here is a bit of info.

Deborrah Kaye “Debbie” Allen (born January 16, 1950) is an American actress, dancer, choreographer, television director, television producer, and a member of the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities. She is perhaps best known for her work on the 1982 musical-drama television series Fame, where she portrayed dance teacher Lydia Grant, and served as the series' principal choreographer. She is the younger sister of actress/singer Phylicia Rashād.

Here she is with Gregory Hines. What a surprise, folks.
