@edgarblythe,
Hey, pogo. Thanks for the comment on Feeling Groovy.

Didn't know your song by the Turtles, but I never hear or see them that I don't think of yitwail. He and his wife are all right, 'cause I sent them a Happy New Year message and he responded with one in Hawaiian. Love it.

Oops. Perhaps we had better dedicate the bit about Nicholas and Alexandra to our tsarstephen.

Here's one by The Turtles that I like

Loved "Feeling Groovy" Miss Letty, one of my S & G fav's.
First time hearing The Turtles, Ed not bad.
Yeah, Amy Winehouse, talented, but another one with a
self destruct button.

@eurocelticyankee,
Hey, Irish you sent me to the archives again. (thanks for your comments)

James Keane (Irish: Séamus Ó Catháin; 7 February 1948) is an Irish traditional musician and accordion player. The Italian Castagnari company issued and continues a line of signature instruments called keanebox in his honor.

James Keane was born in Drimnagh, south Dublin City in Co Dublin. He reportedly began playing at age six, and lilting since before he could talk. The Keane house in Dublin was a musical landmark on the traditional music scene in the 1950s and 1960s. Keane's mother and father were both fiddle players from musical communities in County Longford and County Clare, and would play host to the legendary players who traveled from all over Ireland to perform in the capital city. These guests greatly affected James and his brother Seán Keane, the fiddler with the Chieftains, as did their summer trips to Longford and Clare where they encountered the music at its roots.

Isn't Seamus pronounced Shamus?

Well, today is Johnny Ray's birthday, so here is a great one by him.

@Letty,
he started off as a sort of new wave punk guy, but soon changed his tune, he's released a jive inspired album, blues and soul stuff, back in the age of vinyl he released a double album with only 3 sides having music on them, his record company wanted him to either trim it to a single album or record another side worth of music, he stood his ground, saying that the songs he'd written were the ones he wanted, he didn't want to cut any and he wasn't going to release songs he didn't think were good enough, in the end he won because he had great album sales and had some clout, the album came out with the second side of the second album blank

Big World is a 1986 live album by Joe Jackson. The album was recorded in front of an invited audience at the Roundabout Theatre in New York City on 22-25 January 1986. Jackson's intent was to capture the excitement and spontaneity of a live performance, but without any interference from the crowd. The audience remained silent during the recording as per Jackson's request, so no applause is heard. The music was mixed live from microphones on each instrument and then recorded directly into a stereo digital tape recorder. Unlike most live recordings, no post-recording mixing or overdubbing was performed.

The LP release was a double album, but only had music on three sides. The fourth side label proclaims "there is no music on this side", and the record had a groove that quickly lead to the inner.

Ahh so I do know the Turtles, they sang "So happy together" I
know that one.
Joe Jackson is one of my better half's favourite artist, I like some
of his stuff, I like his song,

"Is she really going out with him,
is she really going to take him home tonight
cause if my eyes don't deceive me
there's something going on around here"

I haven't heard that in years, yet I can still
recite it word for word, great song.
Johnny Ray was nice Miss Letty.

This is a documentary I'm running on the
"Sounds from the Emerald isle" thread.
It's compulsive watching.

@Letty,
Yes Miss Letty, It's pronounced, "Shaymus".
The song I played by Keane.
Keane are an English band, I don't think any of them
are named Keane, they just called the band that.

But you're spot on about the James Keane story.

dj, thanks for the info on Joe. Love to learn here on our cyber radio, and I really enjoyed the second song by him as well.

euroGeorge. That is one fabulous documentary. I do know that the Queen still owns six counties in Ireland, and my friend in Northern Ireland used to be on A2K. As I noted, his screen name is Smokin' Gunn.

Bill Clinton was the subject of a sting operation. Too bad, 'cause when he was president we had a balanced budget.

Thanks, also, for The Keane info.

We used to have secular presentations at the Presbyterian Church and I have been trying to find the melody to this song forever. I know this was one of the songs that we did on St. Paddy's Day.

Here are the lyrics.

I've Got Rings On My Fingers

(F J Barnes, R P Weston)

Now Jim O'Shea was cast away
Upon an Indian Isle
The natives there they liked his hair
They liked his Irish smile
So made him chief Panjandrum
The Nabob of them all
They called him Jij-ji-boo Jhai
And rigged him out so gay
So he wrote to Dublin Bay
To his sweetheart, just to say

Sure, I've got rings on my fingers, bells on my toes
Elephants to ride upon, my little Irish Rose
So come to your Nabob, and next Patrick's Day
Be Mistress Mumbo Jumbo Jij-ji-boo J. O'Shea

Across the sea went Rose Magee
To see her Nabob grand
He sat within his palanquin
And when she kissed his hand
He led her to his harem
Where he had wives galore
She started shedding a tear
Said he, "Now have no fear
I'm keeping these wives here
Just for ornament, my dear"

Sure, I've got rings on my fingers, bells on my toes
Elephants to ride upon, my little Irish Rose
So come to your Nabob, and next Patrick's Day
Be Mistress Mumbo Jumbo Jij-ji-boo J. O'Shea

In emerald green he robed his queen
To share with him his throne
'Mid eastern charms and waving palms
They'd shamrocks, Irish grown
Sent all the way from Dublin
To Nabob J. O'Shea
But in his palace so fine
Should Rose for Ireland pine
With smiles her face will shine
When he murmurs, "Sweetheart mine"

Sure, I've got rings on my fingers, bells on my toes
Elephants to ride upon, my little Irish Rose
So come to your Nabob, and next Patrick's Day
Be Mistress Mumbo Jumbo Jij-ji-boo J. O'Shea

I can hear that melody in my head right now.

Back later with Diana Krall for our Ceili.

@Letty,
There is a song called "I'll tell me Ma", that has the lyrics,
"rings on her fingers and bells on her toes".
I suspect, Miss Letty that your song might originate in
America judging by the lyrics.
Check this melody might.

I'll tell me Ma.

The Reelin in the Years video was a shocker when it included the O J Simpson footage. I re-lived the trauma.

euroGeorge is right. Those lyrics don't have that Irish brogue. Thanks, buddy, for clearing it up with your contribution of The Dublin Brothers.

edgar, Walking in the Rain was a good one by Johnny. Thanks again for all the comments that you and our Irish friend make here.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with two songs.

First, this one. Razz

Now, one of my favorite Canucks.

Good to see Canada and Ireland with us today, and we don't want to forget Texas and Florida.

Goodnight world,

From Letty with much love for you all.
