Hey, Irish. I love all of those Chris De Burgh songs. He is great, but I especially focused on Diamond in the Dark as it reminded me of an experience via my son. Should you like, I'll explain later.

Today is C. Thomas Howell's birthday, and I vaguely recall him in the movie The Outsiders, but only because of this Frost poem.

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Robert Frost

First, a tribute to him.

Now, a brief movie trailer.

I remember Matt best for the movie Crash, however.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, Thanks for your comments. Our listeners and contributors learn from you and appreciate what you say here.

Today is Eli Wallach's birthday, and although I have seen many of the movies in which he starred, I simply don't remember him.

Some info, y'all.

Eli Herschel Wallach (born December 7, 1915) is an American film, television and stage actor, who gained fame in the late 1950s. For his performance in Baby Doll he won a BAFTA Award for Best Newcomer and a Golden Globe nomination. One of his most famous roles is that of Tuco in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966). Other roles include his portrayal of Don Altobello in The Godfather Part III, Calvera in The Magnificent Seven, and Arthur Abbott in The Holiday. Wallach has received BAFTA Awards, Tony Awards and Emmy Awards for his work. Wallach also has a cameo as a liqour store owner in Clint Eastwood's Mystic River (film).

With his 95th birthday approaching, Wallach can be seen in two 2010 films, Roman Polanski's The Ghost Writer and Oliver Stone's Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

Wallach received an Honorary Academy Award at the 2nd Annual Governors Awards, presented on November 13, 2010.

A tribute.

@Letty,
C. Thomas Howell, I remember him in The Hitcher, he seems to be in a lot of S/FY channel movies these days.
And yes please tell me your story about Diamond In The Dark, It's one of my favourites, so much so I named a horse I once had a share in after it. Turned out to be a three legged donkey, won once but I loved it to bits all the same.

All I want is that Diamond In The Dark to win the 3.30.

@eurocelticyankee,
Irish, both Orinco Flow by Enya and Paula Flynn's Let's Dance were awesome. Thanks for the introduction.

Bet you know this one by Sir Thomas Moore.

To me, that is what love is all about.

I think the history behind it involves his wife who contracted smallpox, and survived, but her beauty was destroyed by the scaring. She locked herself in the bedroom and would not come out. He slipped this poem under her door and it has been set to music.

Eli Wallach was one of those character actors I always watched for, ever since the Good the Bad and the Ugly appeared. In that film, he is clearly billed as the Ugly, although people ever after tagged Lee Van Cleef as the Ugly, because of his looks. The film portarays an ugly man in character and deed: Tucco/ Eli Wallach.

edgar, Thanks for your comments and I had no idea that Tex Ritter had done Mexicali Rose. Love that song, and of course Deano's Memories Are Made of This is great.

Have a wonderful dinner with your wife, Irish. Really love Stevie Wonder.

I have always liked this song by Ronnie Milsap, but didn't know his background.

Milsap was born in Robbinsville, North Carolina with a congenital disorder that left him almost completely blind. He was abandoned by his mother as an infant and raised by his grandparents until the age of five, when he was sent to the Governor Morehead School for the Blind in Raleigh, North Carolina. Throughout his childhood he lost his remaining vision. Due to a developing blood clot both eyes were removed. Throughout his childhood he had an interest in music—particularly the late-night broadcasts of country music, gospel, and rhythm and blues. In concert, Milsap has often paid musical tribute to the legendary artists who have inspired him the most including Ray Charles, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Elvis Presley.

Now his song.
