edgar, Great one by Ned Miller. Love the title: "Do What You Do Do".

As usual, our Brit has a great photo of The Discovery. Thanks, London, and we all enjoyed Sam and Dave's Hold on I'm Comin'

Loved the "Boss" doing E Street Band.

This one is in response to Space Age, y'all.

@Rockhead,
Wow! That is fabulous, mooseman. Never heard that one by Sir Elton and Pavarotti. I always become entranced at the way Italian opera singers roll those "r's"

Be sure and check out Mr. Bowie. I put him and the John man in the same category.

Your horses reminded me of this one, buddy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWg4dnXCpt8&feature=related

He sounds a bit like Leonard Cohen.

David Bowie - He's been around forever, it seems.
Joan Baez is the only other person I have heard sing about pretty little horses.

@edgarblythe,
Donovan is fabulous, edgar. Love that one by him. Just read he had polio as a child. Thanks for that one, buddy.

Today is John Coltrane's birthday. This one is a great tribute to the man.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOP5NraHS24&feature=fvw

His first song is written by Sinatra and is called Nancy with the Laughing Face. Here are the lyrics to that lovely song. I recognized most of the other as well.

If I don't see her each day, I miss her
Oh what a thrill, it is to kiss her
Believe me, I've got a case
On Nancy, with the laughing face

She takes the winter and makes it summer
And summer could take some lessons from her
Picture a tomboy in lace
That's Nancy with the laughing face

Have you ever heard mission bells ringing
Well she'll give you the very same glow
When she speaks you would think it was singing
Just to hear her say hello

I swear to goodness, you can't resist her
Sorry for you, she has no sister!
No angel could replace
Nancy, with the laughing face!

I love that one by them Rascals, edgar. Yep, people just got to be free, but "..freedom's just another name for nothing else to lose.."

For the longest time, I thought that Janis Joplin had written this song, buddy.

I knew better than to think Janis wrote it, because I already knew two or three versions before hers came out. - But I can see how one might think that. It was I think her biggest selling record. I had a record of it by Jerry Lee Lewis even.
Speak of the devil, here is the Killer with something he did back in the 1950s.

@edgarblythe,
My word, edgar, I know that song. Had no idea that Jerry Lee did it, however. UhOh. You'll send me searching again, but first another birthday boy doing a great song with Willie Nelson. Amazing how great they both are.

Happy birthday, Julio.

Thanks again for your comment, edgar. Love that New Moon Over my Shoulder, Texas. Moon Mullican is the one to sing it all right.

an oldie but a favourite of mine from the boss, happy birthday

I stood stone-like at midnight suspended in my masquerade
I combed my hair till it was just right and commanded the night brigade
I was open to pain and crossed by the rain and I walked on a crooked crutch
I strolled all alone through a fallout zone and came out with my soul untouched
I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd but when they said "Sit down" I stood up.
Ooh-ooh growin' up

The flag of piracy flew from my mast, my sails were set wing to wing
I had a jukebox graduate for first mate, she couldn't sail but she sure could sing,
I pushed B-52 and bombed 'em with the blues with my gear set stubborn on standing
I broke all the rules, strafed my old high school, never once gave thought to landing,
I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd but when they said "Come down" I threw up
Ooh-ooh growin' up

I took month-long vacations in the stratosphere and you know it's really hard to hold your breath.
I swear I lost everything I ever loved or feared, I was the cosmic kid in full costume dress
Well, my feet they finally took root in the earth but I got me a nice little place in the stars
And I swear I found the key to the universe in the engine of an old parked car
I hid in the mother breast of the crowd but when they said "Pull down" I pulled up
Ooh-ooh growin' up. Ooh-ooh growin' up

My word, I just remembered that Mickey Rooney was Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream.

So, think that I'll say goodnight with the March of the Priests from that one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKWelcf2oTo

What fools we mortals be.

My word, dj, you're the one who inspired this great march. Will listen to Bruce tomorrow. Welcome back, incidentally.

From Letty with love and a smile.

Emmylou Harris covering Neil Young's Wrecking Ball, video from the Lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans after the disaster.

My life's an open book, you read it on the radio
We've got no where to hide, we got no where to go
But' if you still decide you want to take a ride

Meet me at the Wrecking ball
Wrecking Ball, I'll wear something pretty and white
And we'll go dancing tonight
Meet me at the Wrecking Ball
Wrecking Ball, I'll wear something pretty and white
And we'll go dancing tonight

I see smokey eyes right across the bar
I've seen that look before shining from star to star
Though I can't take that change
If you've got time for one dance

The restless line of cars goes stretching down the road
But I won't telephone cause you might say hello
What is it makes me feel this way
What is it makes me want to say

Della Reese - Don't You Know.

NOTE: Melody based on an aria from Puccini's "La Boheme".I'm sure my PD could track this down.

Don't you know
I have fallen in love with you
For the rest of my whole life through

Don't you know
I was yours from the very day
That you happened to come my way

Can't you see
I'm under your spell
By the look in my eyes
Can't you tell, can't you tell

Now, don't you know
Every beat of my heart keeps crying out
I want you so
Don't you know

Don't you know
Every beat of my heart keeps crying out
I want you so
Don't you know

Info on Ms Reese here....

Movin' on with Oscar (No,not The Grouch)....

Oscar Brown Jr. - Brother Where Are You.

A small boy walked down a city street
And hope was in his eyes
As he searched the faces of the people he'd meet
For one he could recognize

Brother, where are you?
They told me that you came this way
Brother, where are you?
They said you came this way

The eyes of the people who passed him by
Was cold and as hard as stone
And the poor boy whimpered and began to cry
Because he was all alone

Brother, where are you?
They told me that you came this way
Brother, where are you?
They said you came this way

Now there are many
Who will swear it's true
That brother's all we are
And yet it seems there are very few
Who will answer a brother's call
Oh brother, where are you?
They told me that you came this way
Brother, where are you?
They said you came this way
They said you came this way
They said you came this way.....................

There are many who would say it's true
That brothers are we all
And that's why I'm asking you
When you hear a brother's call
Brother, where are you?
They told me that you came this way
Brother, where are you?
They said you came this way
Said you came this way
Said you came this way
Said you came this way
Said you came this way.............

Good morning WA2K folks.

dj, enjoyed Bruce's Growing up and Emmylou Harris' Wrecking Ball was great.

Thanks, Canada.

Hey, Brit. Really enjoyed Della Reese's Muzetta's Waltz. Smile and Oscar Brown, Jr.'s Brother Where Are You was awesome. Reminded me of O Brother Where Art Thou.

Now I recall the funny movie in which I saw Mickey Rooney. It was It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World. Loved it!

Couple of songs for the morning, y'all.

First a waltz.

Now, a tribute to Christopher Reeve's whose birthday is today.

Such a sad life he had. Superman still lives in our heart.

@Letty,
I like March of the Priests. But, Midsummer Night's Dream is one of the few Mickey Rooney films I did not watch. Mickey is in my list of top ten favorite actors.
I particularly loved Della Reese's voice when she was young.
Nice waltz.
Christopher Reeve - I admired his spirit.

I first took notice of Eddy Fisher when he had this song for a hit. I came to appreciate his voice more and more after that.
