@edgarblythe,
Mornin' edgar. Smile

Loved your goodnight song, buddy. Never heard that one but Newfoundland Bound was excellent. Love them dogs as well. Bonnie Tyler's Nothin' but a Heartache was awesome as well.

I liked our Brit's songs . That one by Smokey was funny, but I'm with you on the Joan Osborne song. Sent me to the archives.

Joan Elizabeth Osborne (born July 8, 1962) is an American country singer-songwriter. She is best known for her song "One of Us", and for her work with members of The Grateful Dead. She has toured with Motown sidemen, the Funk Brothers, and was featured in the documentary film about them, Standing in the Shadow.

Guess whose birthday is today, Texas. Had no idea Gary Busey did a movie about him.

And a birthday girl.

Her name is Chrissie Hynde.

@Letty,
I came across this song that Butrflynet discovered:

DADDY'S SONG
By Suheir Hammad

You always loved classics
said new music was ****
just like comedians couldn't make jokes
without getting nasty no more
singers couldn't sing

In your day there was sinatra presley
(you hated him wouldn't let us watch his flicks)
and some cat named sam cooke

All the time "sam cooke can sing sam
cooke sang real songs simple and real"

I was in high school the first
time I heard your mix tape of
cooke classics and
I fell in love with his voice
smooth smooth

And I fell in love with the daddy
I thought all this time talking about
some sinatra presley like guy
not this sweet sweet music

I was in college when we rented
malcolm's life on video and the one
good thing spike lee ever did was
play that song your song
as denzel I mean malcolm
was getting ready to die

You cried in your easy boy reclining
your head to better listen it was you
born by the river daddy in a little tent
and I swear you been running
running ever since

That's my song too daddy
and one day I'm gonna sing it
for you in a poem

@Letty,
Glad to be back. I've improved so much that I can sit at my computer desk so much longer, resulting that I'm getting myself in trouble on A2K.

@georgeob1,
Welcome back to you, too, buddy. Love that song Cast Your Fate to the Wind by theVince Guaraldi trio. He's a great jazz man.

I know that you like Johnny Mercer as do I, so here's some info, and my favorite song by that guy.

Andrea Marcovicci brings her tribute to Johnny Mercer, Skylark to San Francisco. Originally commissioned in March of 2008 by the Savanna Music Festival, Skylark sold out with five shows in seven days! Best known as one of America’s finest lyricists, Johnny Mercer was also a respected solo artist contributing hits like "Something’s Gotta Give" and "Dream". This multiple Oscar winner collaborated with our finest composers including Harold Arlen Hoagy Carmichael, Jerome Kern, Henry Mancini, Jimmy Van Heusen, and Harry Warren, creating hits for Sinatra, Garland, Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire.

In her latest show, Skylark, Andrea Marcovicci illuminates the man behind the music through delightful anecdotes, and digs deep into the pensive, heartbreaking and often impish lyrics crafted by Mercer. In addition to finding undiscovered gems in his repertoire from Georgia State University Special Collections, Skylark will include familiar hits like the title song as well as:"Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive"," That Old Black Magic"," One for "My Baby (and One More for the Road)", "You Were Never Lovelier", "Autumn Leaves", "Goody, Goody" and of course, "Moon River".

Although I like Skylark by K.D. Lang, this one is different.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, Thanks once again for commenting on what we play here.

Walk Like a Panther by Chrissie was fabulous. Especially like the visuals, Texas.

Had a black cat once that I named panther.

Buddy's True Love Ways was a great memory, and Mr. laid back Como always does an excellent. I had forgotten The Rose Tattoo.

News from the world of archaeology, folks

Ancient city by the sea rises amid Egypt's resorts
AP – With a five star hotel in the background, a man walks by restored Roman pillar tombs of the ancient city …
By PAUL SCHEMM, Associated Press Writer Paul Schemm, Associated Press Writer – 14 mins ago
MARINA, Egypt – Today, it's a sprawl of luxury vacation homes where Egypt's wealthy play on the white beaches of the Mediterranean coast. But 2,000 years ago, this was a thriving Greco-Roman port city, boasting villas of merchants grown rich on the wheat and olive trade.
The ancient city, known as Leukaspis or Antiphrae, was hidden for centuries after it was nearly wiped out by a fourth century tsunami that devastated the region.
More recently, it was nearly buried under the modern resort of Marina in a development craze that turned this coast into the summer playground for Egypt's elite.

So, I guess we had better do this one to match Walk Like a Panther. Smile

Good evening. Just passing through as I sometimes do.
I don't know whether yall caught this yesterday. I saw it on the BBC yesterday.
Mike Edwards played cello for the Electric Light Orchestra from 1972-1975. He died at the age of 62 a few days ago in an auto accident.
I found videos of the ELO but their membership was a bit of a revolving door throughout. I don't know if I found one with Edwards.

Hey, John of Virginia. Here is a solo of Mike playing cello. Sorry to hear about that freak accident. A bale of hay hit his van? Sheeeeze.

Couldn't find one of his playing with ELO
