edgar, I had to check out Howard Keel. I had forgotten him. When I was a teenager I dated a guy from VMI by that name. Ah, he was fantastic, Texas, and Merle's Frisco song was haunting. Thanks.

Welcome back, Irish.(smokingunn) That beautiful Irish song, The Banks of my Own Lovely Lee, by Sean was fantastic.

More synchronicity, because today is P.T. Barnum's birthday, and here is a familiar one by Jenny Lind, The Swedish Nightingale as performed by this wonderful vocalist.

and, y'all, from the musical at Stratfort on Avon, this delightful song and dialogue.

Good one from smokingunne, letty.
The Jenny Lind song was great.
The play would be worth seeing in its entirety.

@edgarblythe,
Amazing, edgar. (yep, Irish, lots of good action) I awakened briefly last evening to see that The Boston Pops were saluting Arthur Fiedler, and one of them was Pearl Bailey. Love Little Green Apples by that talented woman.

A little info about Arthur.

Arthur Fiedler (December 17, 1894 – July 10, 1979) was the long-time conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra, a symphony orchestra that specializes in popular and light classical music. With a combination of musicianship and showmanship, he made the Pops one of the best-known orchestras in the country. Some criticized him for watering down music, particularly when adapting popular songs or edited portions of the classical repertoire, but Fiedler deliberately kept performances informal, light, and often self-mocking to attract more listeners.

Also featured was James Taylor, so here is one that I have never heard by him.

@edgarblythe,
Never think of Cagney doing Yankee Doodle Dandy that I don't think of my Mom, edgar. Thanks, buddy. Orson Welles proclaimed him to be possibly the best actor that ever stood in front of a camera, and President Ronald Reagan read the eulogy at his funeral.

Today is Huey Lewis and the News' day. Trying to figure out why I know him and them. I like this one by all of them, however.

@edgarblythe,
well, edgar, I went on a search for the song of the mocking turtle and as you like it, but no luck. Donovan is a cryptic guy sometimes, but I like him.

I did run across these turtles, however.

I know their So Happy Together, but this one is different.

I recall when the Turtles were popular. They did Happy Together, It Ain't Me Babe and two or three, including Elinore.

Huey and the News was my oldest daughter's favorite artist during her last years at home. I don't think she pays him any mind these days.
Bobby Darin's Start of Something Big - what can I say? I could spend a day listening to his singing.

@edgarblythe,
Marty and Bobby were soooo talented, edgar. Love those drowsy waters by him. He really rivaled the best of the Hawaiian singers. The visuals were calming, too. Thanks for playing it, Texas.

Well, from Hawaii to Memphis, cause today is this guy's birthday. Don't know him, but he's good, folks.

I tried to listen to that one, but it kept freezing up, so that after several minutes I had not gotten more than halfway through hearing it. Oh, well. Here is one I like, from Japan.

@edgarblythe,
Aren't Japanese women beautiful? loved that song with the sub-titles.

Remember the cossacks?

http://a2cto.org/clipart/Animated/Geography_and_History/Russia/Cossack.gif

Noticed that the Georgians tore down the statue of Stalin.

Sorry about the failure of the Memphis man, Texas. Maybe it will work later.

Anyway, let's go from Japan to Russia, shall we?

The Dubliners - In The Rare Old Times

Raised on songs and stories, heroes of re-known
The passing tales and glories that once was Dublin town
The hallowed halls and houses, the haunting childrens' rhymes
That once was part of Dublin in the rare ould times

[Chorus:]
Ring a ring a rosie, as the light declines
I remember Dublin city in the rare ould times

Oh me name it is Sean Demspey, as Dublin as could be
Born hard and late in Pimlico, in a house that ceased to be
By trade I was a cooper, lost out to redundancy
Like my house that fell to progress, my trade's a memory

And I courted Peggy Dignan, as pretty as you please
A rogue and a child of Mary, from the rebel liberties
I lost her to a student chap with skin as black as coal
When he took her off to Birmingham, she took away my soul

[Chorus]
Ring a ring a rosie, as the lights decline
I remember Dublin city in the rare ould times.

Oh the years have made me bitter, the gargle dims me brain
'Cause Dublin keeps on changing and nothing seems the same
The Pillar and The Met have gone, The Royal long since pulled down
As the great unyielding concrete makes a city of my town

[Chorus]
Ring a ring a rosie, as the light declines
I remember Dublin city in the rare ould times.

Fare thee well sweet Anna Liffey, I can no longer stay
And watch the new glass cages, that spring up along the quay
My mind's too full of memories, too old to hear new chimes
I'm a part of what was Dublin in the rare ould times

[Chorus]
Ring a ring a rosie, as the light declines
I remember Dublin city in the rare ould times.

Did Dublin really need The Stiletto In The Ghetto?
At least the beautiful Post Office is still there!

edgar, Loved Elvis' American Triolgy. Great goodnight song from both points of view. Gloria Gaynor is the one who did "I Will Survive". Bet you remember her now, Texas. Smile

Well, Speak of the Brit and up he pops.

Love that song, by The Dubliners, London. Thanks for allowing us to see the lyrics as well. "...ring a ring a rosie..." Know what that refers to? I do!

Today is Della Reese's birthday, so here is a tribute to that fabulous lady.

Also, awakened to this song early this morning. No rain here, John.
