Well, listeners. Raggedy and edgar are speaking in Japanese and suddenly out of nowhere, I got this request:

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Helplessly Hoping Lyrics
by Stephen Stills

Helplessly hoping
Her harlequin hovers nearby
Awaiting a word
Gasping at glimpses
Of gentle true spirit
He runs, wishing he could fly
Only to trip at the sound of good-bye
Wordlessly watching
He waits by the window
And wonders
At the empty place inside
Heartlessly helping himself to her bad dreams
He worries
Did he hear a good-bye? Or even hello?
They are one person
They are one person
They are two alone
They are three together
They are for each other
Stand by the stairway
You'll see something
Certain to tell you confusion has its cost
Love isn't lying
It's loose in a lady who lingers
Saying she is lost
And choking on hello
They are one person
They are two alone
They are three together
They are for each other

Back later, listeners. We are the world on WA2K radio

goodnight, goodnight.

Only the sound of ruffled birds as if they care not what is heard.
Wings of gold
And sounds of flight,
as if to say
Sad, sweet delight.

Some are born to endless night.

Mother's Day
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Mother's Day is a day for celebrating motherhood and thanking mothers. Mothers often receive gifts on this day, and it is a busy time of year for mail in many countries. In 1973, the U.S. Postal Service was held up for eight days because of the number of letters and cards.

Origins

Mother's Day falls on various days of the year in different countries because it has a number of different origins. One school of thought claims this day emerged from a custom of mother worship in ancient Greece. Mother worship - which kept a festival to Cybele, a great mother of gods, and Rhea, the wife of Cronus - was held on March 15 to March 18 around Asia Minor. They insist that this custom spread around the world from there.

Mothering Sunday in the United Kingdom falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent (typically March or early April). It has been celebrated for hundreds of years, though the exact origin is uncertain. Tradition has it that young apprentices were released by their masters that weekend in order to visit their families.

In most countries, Mother's Day is a new concept copied from western civilisation. In many African countries, Mother's Day has its origins in copying the British concept. In most of East Asia, Mother's Day is a heavily marketed and commercialised concept copied straight from Mother's Day in the USA.

Good morning WA2K radio listeners and friends.

edgar, did Belafonte do the voice for Sidney Poitier in his award winning Lilies of the Field?

Bob, thanks for that background on Mother's Day. I had no idea that so many countries celebrated that tradition. Frankly, I thought it was an American tradition created by the florists.

Well, folks, we live to learn here on cyberspace radio.

Song for my mom:

I'm thinking right now of my mom.
As I think I just can't help a smile.
I can picture her quite clearly,
Playing hymns she loved so dearly
Singing with her eyes closed all the while.

One of which was:
If I have wounded any soul to day,
If I have caused one foot to go astray
If I have walked in my own willful way,
Dear Lord, forgive.

Forgive the sins I have confessed to thee.
Forgive the secret sins I do not see.
Oh, guide me, help me and my teacher be.
Dear Lord, amen.

Happy Mother's day, Mama!

This seems to be the season of secrets, listeners. Perhaps a song for the occasion?

Beatles - Do You Want To Know A Secret Lyrics
(McCartney/Lennon) Lead vocals: George Harrison

You'll never know how much I really love you.
You'll never know how much I really care.

Listen,
Do you want to know a secret,
Do you promise not to tell, whoa oh, oh.

Closer,
Let me whisper in your ear,
Say the words you long to hear,
I'm in love with you.

Listen,
Do you want to know a secret,
Do you promise not to tell, whoa oh, oh.

Closer,
Let me whisper in your ear,
Say the words you long to hear,
I'm in love with you.

I've known the secret for a week or two,
Nobody knows, just we two.

Listen,
Do you want to know a secret,
Do you promise not to tell, whoa oh, oh.

Closer,
Let me whisper in your ear,
Say the words you long to hear,
I'm in love with you.

Not much of a secret was it, listeners.

Thought for Today: ``All that I am or hope to be I owe to my angel mother.'' - Abraham Lincoln, American president (1809-1865).

What item in the news touted the name of Sting's nine year old child?

You Were My Mother and My Friend

Music: Lord Franklin

by
Nicholas Gordon

You were my mother and my friend,
Which was unusual.
Somehow our characters still blend:
Your wisdom and my will.

I turned, and you were there for me;
I spoke, you understood.
I felt cared for, but also free;
You loved, and I was good.

I'm fortunate that I was born
To someone just like you;
I love you still. Though you are gone,
You live in what I do.

news update from Maine:

ORONO, Maine - Delivering the commencement speech at his alma mater, best-selling author Stephen King told University of Maine graduates Saturday to be voracious readers, donate a tenth of their earnings to worthy causes and carve out their careers in Maine.

King rattled off a "top 10" list in which he urged students to hug and kiss whoever helped them get to this point, to read as much as they could and to give away a dime for every dollar they make.

"If you don't, the government is just going to take it for you," said King, who is known for his own generosity to the university. "You're not an owner in this life, you're just a steward."

The last four points of his list were the same: Stay in Maine.

Despite his celebrity, King has chosen to live in his native state for most of his life and makes his home in nearby Bangor.

"If you leave, you will miss it, so you might as well skip the going away part," he said.

BODY AND SOUL
Paul Whiteman
(Johnny Green/Ed Heyman/Ed Sour/Frank Eyton)

a #1 song in 1930

My heart is sad and lonely
For you I sigh, for you dear only
Why haven't you seen it
I'm all for you body and soul
I spend my days in longin'
And wondering why it's me you're wronging
I tell you I mean it
I'm all for you body and soul
I can't believe it
It's hard to conceive it
That you turn away romance
Are you pretending
It looks like the ending
Unless I could have one more chance to prove, dear
My life a wreck you're making
You know I'm yours for just the taking
I'd gladly surrender myself to you body and soul

My life a wreck you're making
You know I'm yours for just the taking
I would gladly surrender myself to you body and soul

ah, edgar. thanks for that song. My husband played that so long ago as an acoustic bass solo. Now that old bass, a Kaye upright, sits forlornly in the corner unless I decide to play piano along with him. (key of C, of course)
