@edgarblythe,
edgar, I didn't know that Andy Williams had brothers. Love Little LuLu and Swingin on a Star, however.

I've been doing more research today, y'all, and came up with two things. In a chat with my older sister, I was enlightened about a movie called Miracle of the Bells, but first the intro to Little LuLu.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4QiD2-K5bs

Now a tribute to the woman who played in The Miracles of the Bells. Think it was about Joan of Arc.

I knew years ago that Andy first began singing with his brothers, but eventually forgot. My memory got jogged today.
Midnight Rhapsody is a good song to play with that tribute. I don't know this actor, but she seems like an interesting woman.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, I had no idea about the sperm whale. I knew of it, of course, but not its habits and habitats. Fabulous, Texas.

Well, I tried to find the "right whale", but not much luck.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with two songs.

First a great jazzman Chic.

Now, a great vocalist and performer, Diana Krall.

To all the ocean lovers,

From Letty with love

I like Chic more in my older age than I did early on.
Diana is an interesting vocalist.

Here is Leonard Cohen with the tale of Nancy - Seems so Long Ago.
There are more songs on this play, but Nancy is the one I am targeting.

Good morning WA2K, edgar, and our Brit.

edgar, Nancy by Leonard Cohen was fantastic, and Fabrizio De Andre doing the same song in French was awesome. Strange, cause he's Italian. Thanks, Texas.

Hey, Brit. Love sea shanties and Haul Away for Rosie was great.

Wow! Never heard Paloma Faith. Where else would one hear such a wonderful vocalist except in New York.

Ah, Michael Jackson doing Come Together was rather sad, but we all enjoy hearing the song.

Incidentally, thanks for the geography lesson.

Two birthday boys today. First Rudolph Valentino. Have loved him ever since I was a kid and saw Anthony Dexter do the movie of his life.

We'll dedicate this to soccer George who is our Latin Lover on A2K.

Saw several movies starring George Clooney such as A Perfect Storm, but O Brother is still my perfect choice.

@edgarblythe,
hey, Texas. I listened to Farewell Angelina twice. Loved it, and found that these lyrics do represent Valentino.

"King Kong, little elves
On the rooftops they dance
Valentino-type tangos
While the make-up man's hands
Shut the eyes of the dead
Not to embarrass anyone
Farewell Angelina
The sky is embarassed
And I must be gone."

Love the lyrics, although they are a bit mystic.

Ah, you know how I love Nat. Those crazy lazy hazy days of summer. Yep, not looking forward to hurricane season.

Here's one that I happened across while doing more research.

Didn't get much out of that one, letty. Might be my fault for not trying hard enough.
Here is a guy I haven't listened to lately.

@edgarblythe,
I didn't get much out of it either, edgar. Actually, it was inspired by a remark made by Barry the Brit on the Yabber thread.

Red Sovine's Giddy Up Go, brought a tear to my eye, Texas. Thought that I had used up all my tears.

Well, today is Bob Seger's birthday, so let's hear one by him.

Could not find on decent tribute to Orson Welles whose birthday is also today.

I never heard Kris's version of this song before.
Happy bday to Bob Seger.

@edgarblythe,
Wow! I've never heard that one by Kris either. Stunned to see that Bob Denver also did it.

Anyone remember Stewart Granger? Today is his birthday.

He was born in Old Brompton Road, West London, the only son of Major James Stewart, OBE and his wife Frederica Eliza (née Lablache). Granger was educated at Epsom College and the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. He was the great-great grandson of the opera singer Luigi Lablache and the grandson of the actor Luigi Lablache. When he became an actor, he was obliged to change his name in order to avoid being confused with the American actor James Stewart. (Granger was his Scottish grandmother's maiden name.) Off-screen friends and colleagues would continue to call him Jimmy for the rest of his life, but to the general public he became Stewart Granger.

Here he is, y'all, in one of his best movies.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, that gave me a big smile. Solomon King's When We Were Young was quite a surprise, but delightful.

King Solomon's Mines (1885) is a popular novel by the Victorian adventure writer and fabulist, Sir H. Rider Haggard. It tells of a search of an unexplored region of Africa by a group of adventurers led by Allan Quatermain for the missing brother of one of the party. It is the first English fictional adventure novel set in Africa, and is considered to be the genesis of the Lost World literary genre.

Haggard also did She (who must be obeyed)

Today is Robert Peary's birthday, so let's listen and watch some history, shall we?

That's the sort of expedition I don't fancy. All that snow and ice to get to a spot that's snow and ice? I understand it's important, but better he did it instead of me.

SOME say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice, 5
I think I know enough of hate
To know that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
