Good morning, WA2K folks.

edgar, Didn't know Lovely Rita (the meter maid) by the Fab Four. Thanks, buddy for the introduction

Hey, dj. I really like The Letter by The Box Tops. More fond memories there, Canada. Don't know Big Star 13, however.

Hey, Latin George. The Clancy Brothers' Wild Colonial Boys was great. I'm certain your friend will love the dedication.

Well, Brit. I certainly know The Fisherman's Friends. Love those shanties, London.

The one I recall by them is What Shall We do With a Drunken Sailor Early in the Morning.

A couple of songs for the early morning, y'all. First, I noticed that Mrs. Clinton has gone to Moscow to have a chat about nuclear weapons, so this one was inspired by her.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkLCWcABjBA

and the very, VERY brief lyrics.

Stillness in the grove, not a rustling sound
Softly shines the moon, clear and bright
Dear, if you could know
How I treasure so
This most beautiful moscow night

Today is Wilson Pickett's birthday, and I love this one by him.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdxsdXUqqEA&feature=related

a bit of background on the man.

He died of a heart attack January 19, 2006 in the hospital near his Ashburn, Virginia home and was buried in Louisville, Kentucky. Pickett's long-time friend, Little Richard, spoke about him and preached briefly at the funeral.[2] Pickett spent many years in Louisville when his mother moved there from Alabama. He is considered an honorary son of the city. His funeral procession was flanked by well wishers welcoming him home.

He was remembered on March 20, 2006, at NYC's B.B. King Blues Club with performances by the Commitments, his long-term backing band the Midnight Movers, soul singer Bruce "Big Daddy" Wayne, and Southside Johnny Lyon in front of an audience that included many members of his family, including two brothers.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, That is a most unusual version of The Marine's Hymn by Jerry Lee. I still find it strange that it was written by Offenbach, Texas.

Once again, thank you for the comments on our radio music.

Today is Irene Cara's birthday, and I suppose that she is best known for this song from Flashdance

Irene Cara's song is very nice, letty. The Ventures always remind me of two guys I served with in the Navy. They wanted to record songs like that.

The Paris Sisters made this Phil Specter song famous.

@edgarblythe,
Never heard The Paris Sisters, edgar, but I liked the song I Love How You Love Me. Thanks for the introduction and the comments on Irene and the Ventures who also did the theme from Hawaii 50. Remember that one, buddy?

Well, Texas, you sent me to the archives again and I found out that Phil Specter wrote this one for these brothers.

Phil is currently doing time for murder. I like lots of his music, including that one by the brothers.

Speaking of Hawaii 5 0, it is playing in the living room right now. The guest star on it is Andy Griffith.

@edgarblythe,
Love that one by Big Joe Turner, edgar. I remember him doing Corrina, Corrina.

Hmmm, more synchronicity. You're listening to Jack Lord with Andy Griffith and today is Peter Graves' birthday.

Told you the only thing that I remembered is the theme.

@edgarblythe,
I saw that, edgar. I'm surprised that dj doesn't pop in and say that he misunderstood those lyrics. He thought it said, "killed in a bar when he was only three."

Here's a song by Fess himself. He was a fantastic vocalist, Texas.

@edgarblythe,
Well, Texas, you sent me to the archives again. The only one that I heard that one by was Peter, Paul and Mary.

Here's what I found.

"If I Had a Hammer (The Hammer Song)" is a song written by Pete Seeger and Lee Hays. It was written in 1949 in support of the progressive movement, and was first recorded by The Weavers, a folk music quartet composed of Seeger, Hays, Ronnie Gilbert and Fred Hellerman, and then by Peter, Paul and Mary.

Here's a version by Trini Lopez.

Need to check out The Progressive Movement.
