Jack Kerouac is an icon for me of my young days, the years before I served in the Navy. I stll have a fondness for him, even though I moved on to other writers. I love his Desolation Angels the best.

The tradition of 'free souls' of American literature, for me, is exemplified by Walt Whitman.

When I think of Don McClean, I automatically think of American Pie and Vincent, but he has many good songs besides.

edgar, that was the most beautiful tribute to Walt Whitman that I have ever seen. I think I read all of his poetry, Texas. cavfancier/Paul loved him.

You're right about Don Mclean, buddy. I think we tend to remember performers by their signature piece.

Today is Gordon McRae's birthday, and I wanted a tribute and a montage of that marvelous vocalist, but I can only find this, y'all.
