Good morning, WA2K folks.

panz, loved your goodnight song by the FAB FOUR. Thanks, buddy.

edgar, Ah, Louis Prima the Lip. Great one, and You Never Even Called me by My Name was perfect. .

Hey, Brit.Wow! Another Rainbow was great. Thanks for the introduction to Chris de Burg, London. Reminds me of Burns' "...and like the rainbow's lovely form, vanishing amid the storm..." Is that ever true here. Hope that rhino virus is vanishing, too.

Poem for the day.

Nature's first green is gold
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Robert Frost

Today is James Taylor's birthday, and here is a great tribute to him. Will play Don McLean's later.

Jack Kerouac is an icon for me of my young days, the years before I served in the Navy. I stll have a fondness for him, even though I moved on to other writers. I love his Desolation Angels the best.

The tradition of 'free souls' of American literature, for me, is exemplified by Walt Whitman.

When I think of Don McClean, I automatically think of American Pie and Vincent, but he has many good songs besides.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, that was the most beautiful tribute to Walt Whitman that I have ever seen. I think I read all of his poetry, Texas. cavfancier/Paul loved him.

You're right about Don Mclean, buddy. I think we tend to remember performers by their signature piece.

Today is Gordon McRae's birthday, and I wanted a tribute and a montage of that marvelous vocalist, but I can only find this, y'all.

It's a great song from Oklahoma.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, That was fabulous! I was looking for a great jazz song called Along Came Bill to match Gordon's Soliloquy, and came across this one.

Speaking of Song of Myself by Walt.

I did check out Art's song "Betty" but neglected to say so. Along Came Jones is one I often listened to when it was new. Haven't listened to it lately. Thanks for the reminder.

'Circles' is the Billy Preston song I know best, letty.
The Night Has a Thousand Eyes is one I also enjoy.
Many of us are aware there are more than just the one song with that title.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, Who would have thought that Donald Byrd and Hank Mobley would have done such cool jazz. Funny the way Steve Allen shivered when he talked about Stan Getz doing his cool version.

Perhaps they were inspired by this poet, y'all

The Night Has A Thousand Eyes

by Francis William Bourdillon

The night has a thousand eyes,
And the day but one;
Yet the light of the bright world dies
With the dying of the sun.

The mind has a thousand eyes,
And the heart but one;
Yet the light of a whole life dies
When love is done.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with some Music of the Night.

Let's hope that tomorrow will come

From Letty with love
