Today is the birthday of one of America's greatest composers, Samuel Barber

Quote:
Samuel Osborne Barber II (March 9, 1910 " January 23, 1981) was an American composer of orchestral, opera, choral, and piano music. His Adagio for Strings is his most popular composition and widely considered a masterpiece of modern classical music. He was twice awarded the Pulitzer Prize for music, for his opera Vanessa and his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra. His Knoxville: Summer of 1915, a work for soprano and orchestra, was an acclaimed setting of prose by James Agee.

This is his famous Adagio For Strings done by Trinity College Choir

Old Daniel Prayed, was a goodun, panz. Thanks for the gospel music. Love it!

My word, I Traced Her Little Footprints in the Snow, I know!

Hmm, I preferred Cat's Morning has Broken.

Panz, if you'll go back a few transcripts, you'll notice that I did Samuel Barber. Liked your version as well. Just found out that the Barber man did the sound track from Platoon. Tom Berenger and Johnny Depp were part of the cast. Can't recall the movie, however.

We have the Singing Ranger here with one that made me cry as a kid. (what didn't). Hank sings a different melody from what I remember, however.

Hope I didn't miss anyone.

Playing this by Webb Pierce. He was one of my oldest brother's favorite artists.

I appreciate Hank, letty.

@edgarblythe,
Ah, edgar, I especially liked He's In the Jailhouse Now. Remember that from O Brother where art Thou.

Time for me to say good night, and I think that I shall do so with two songs.

First, Peace in the Valley by Tennessee Ernie Ford.

Good morning, WA2K folks.

Rockymoose, I Don't Want to Talk About It with Rod and Amy was great. Thanks, Kansas.

My word, Brit, that one by Johnny Mathis was fantastic. Yep, when a child is born there is nothing more glorious. I have the sniffles as well, but mine is allergies, methinks.

Two songs for this early morning, y'all.

First, yusuf/Cat

Now a tribute to Bix whose birthday is today. Had no idea the man died so young.

That was a humdinger of a screw up on my part. You wrote about someone you'd never heard of but didn't name him and I didn't click the link.
Then ed came on and said he enjoyed Samuel Barker; I still didn't make the connection.

Good Morning, Miss Letty and WA2K listeners

I'm listening to Paul McCartney's symphony, "Standing Alone"

Here's one cut from that piece

@JPB,
Although Paul got slammed for his"pop" in the guise of classical music, I really enjoyed this piece.

Quote:
Paul, who can't read or write music, had more than a little help from his friends: an "advisory team" of four composers, who transcribed and developed Paul's keyboard doodlings over the course of four years.

First of all, panz, I screw up from time to time myself. As your PD/Producer, I try and listen and watch every contribution.

Just checked out Sir Paul and was amazed that he wrote that classical piece. It was lovely. Should any of you care to do so. You can find the explanation on YouTube.

Thanks Brit; hope your wrist gets better along with your nose. Once again, thanks to JPB for the introduction to that Sir Paul classical piece.

Appreciate edgar's observation as usual, y'all. Be sure and check out the tribute to Bix and the song by Cat Stevens AKA yusuf. I always enjoy getting feedback.

Today is Chuck Norris' birthday, and I like him. Guess what I'm gonna play.

I like Cat enough to own some of his albums. Bix is new to me. I was unaware of Paul's symphony, but it reminds me that Bob Dylan once undertook to write one. Last I read of it, he abandoned the effort.
