Mary Chapin Carpenter's Halley Came To Jackson...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSF0jm3e7Y4
Quote:
Late one night when the wind was still
Daddy brought the baby to the window sill
To see a bit of heaven shoot across the sky
The one and only time Daddy saw it fly

It came from the east just as bright as a torch
The neighbors had a party on their porch
Daddy rocked the baby, Mother said "amen"
When Halley came to visit in nineteen ten

Now back then Jackson was a real small town
And it's not every night a comet comes around
It was almost eighty years since its last time through
So I bet your mother would've said "amen" too

As its tail stretched out like a stardust streak
The papers wrote about it every day for a week
They wondered where it's going and where it's been
When Halley came to Jackson in 1910

Now Daddy told the baby sleeping in his arms
To dream a little dream of a comet's charms
And he made a little wish as she slept so sound
In nineteen eighty-six that wish came 'round

It came from the east, just as bright as a torch
She saw it in the sky from her daddy's porch
As heavenly sent as it was back then
When Halley came to Jackson in nineteen ten
Late one night when the wind was still

This has been one crazy evening, y'all from The Gettyburg Address to toys to geldings. I love it when when we get a great mix on our wee radio.

That was a great one by Mary Chapin Carpenter, tsar.

Sorry that I can't acknowledge each contribution, but I'm yawning and laughing at the same time.

Here are two goodnight songs from a sleepy Letty.

It just so happens that it's Dick's birthday.

and from the Swingle Singers.

Marry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight

I have always respected Patty, letty. Here is a song co-written by Belafonte, performed by an amateur.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, I love that song, but had no idea that Harry Belafonte did it originally. Yep, turn around and they're grown with babes of their own.

Today is Charlie Rich's birthday, y'all, so let's hear one by this great vocalist.

Charlie Rich started out on Sun Records at the same time as Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis. He wrote some of Jerry Lee's songs.

@edgarblythe,
Like that one by Carl Perkins, edgar. Just found out that he wrote Blue Suede Shoes. thanks again for sending me to the archives, Texas.

Today is Lee Remick's birthday, and I remember her best in The Days of Wine and Roses and The Omen.

Here is Perry Como singing the song from that movie, but he does it as a tribute to Jack Lemon who was her co star.

@edgarblythe,
Wow!, edgar. That was fabulous by Kris. I always liked "Take the Ribbon from My Hair" by him among others.

Don't know why I'm thinking of The Lettermen this evening, but I know that they were inspired by The Four Freshmen, so let's listen to some of their hits, shall we?
