@edgarblythe,

Quote:

That didn't work.

BTW Freda Payne in "Band of Gold" and Stevie Wonder in "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" give the most perfect examples of rhythmic timing in popular song, in my humble opinion.

By which I mean the ability to drag the rhythm around, play with it, make it more interesting, and resolve it in the end.

You either got it, or you don't got it.

The Band of Gold video has been removed. We all know the original. But, sometimes it's fun to see what a different kind of artist will do with one.

Driving a few weeks back, window open, tuned to an oldies country station, I heard Hank singing Hey Good Lookin. Traffic stopped for a light. Next to me was the McDonalds car, a big open, boatlike thing, all yellow and curved at the ends. Driven by two young black men. They cranked up their own radio to drown out mine. Hip Hop flooded over the highway like a tidal wave. I knew where they were coming from, and what Hank's song represented to them, and had to grin. Anyway, I can like a song for what it is and not use it against anyone.
