Wiz -
I'm happy to see people taking an interest in Barbra. For a time, I thought she was fading, but now I am beginning to be reassured.

@edgarblythe,
Yes -- a long time between albums and concerts but I suspect she had the vocal cord laser treatment for polyps. All the great singers now seem to retain their voices by having the same operation but it's very secretive -- there is not much detail on Tiger Wood's knee surgery and therapy either. Just enough to satisfy the public. Of course, these days you can't tell what the sound engineers do digitally to clean up rough edges on vocals! You think there's any ethics involved there? It's like the "wondrous photographs" that turn out to be digitally enhanced. That's been a subject of criticism as well.

Great mix of music, y'all. Wish that I could acknowledge each one.

Welcome back, McTag. So nice to hear Peter, Paul, and Mary do that one. It's an oldie, methinks. Need to listen again.

edgar, and Mr. Wizard, You're right. We never know who's been messing around with voices and faces. Didn't Sinatra have the same problem at one time?

I do love Here's That Rainy Day Again. Wish it were true here.

Brit, I remember Ella Mae Morris. Need to do some consulting with my older sis.

Iz, The Deer Hunter really made me erupt into tears at the end. Great movie.

Today is Dan Peek's birthday, and since he sang with America, here is one that I like.

Iz, That Space Man song gave me some good/sad memories.

@Lightwizard,
Reply to wiz:
I don't know if it's wrong or not. I am not too critical of the means, so long as the end product pleases. I know it opens the door to no-talents, but there's a tradeoff for virtually everything, I suppose.

Horse with no name is a fine song. I have never fully deciphered the lyrics, but that's okay.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, I love Wild Fire. Tried to ascertain the meaning of Horse With No Name. Saw one person who thought that "the rain" might be society and "the desert" could be escape. The horse itself, a loss of identity.

Today is Stephen Crane's birthday and found out that he died at 26 of TB. Wow! That man was a great writer, y'all.

My word, I also found out that McTag's song was an old Welsh round.

Here is a poem by Crane that is quite odd.

In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial,
Who, squatting upon the ground,
Held his heart in his hands,
And ate of it.
I said: "Is it good, friend?"
"It is bitter - bitter," he answered;
"But I like it
Because it is bitter,
And because it is my heart

and now, The Red Badge of Courage

@edgarblythe,
I don't believe Streisand would allow it, but the short documentary on the album seems to infer some digital "layers" but I'm thinking it's the balance of her vocals and the orchestra. I did play it on my surround with the enhanced soundstage left on (really meant for movies) and it sounded like she was standing right in the room warbling away with the orchestra behind her in perfectly balanced focus.

Hey, Brit. Missed your Blue Man Group tribute. Love it! Reminds me of another time when we were doing blue stuff on A2K. Roger had to remind me.

edgar, Beautiful Dreamer is one that I have come to love. That version by Hank and Chet was great.

Thanks, Mr. Wizard for more info on Babs.

More blue, y'all.

The instrumental, and then the lyrics.

Blue, blue, my world is blue
Blue is my world now I'm without you
Gray, gray, my life is gray
Cold is my heart since you went away

Red, red, my eyes are red
Crying for you alone in my bed
Green, green, my jealous heart
I doubted you and now we're apart

When we met how the bright sun shone
Then love died, now the rainbow is gone

Black, black, the nights I've known
Longing for you so lost and alone

That Blue Blue song is a particular favorite of mine, letty.

With Memphis Tennessee, here is Jerry Lee Lewis.

edgar, I really like that one by Jerry Lee, and I know it as well

Hey, Brit. Great one by Judy. Had no idea that she sang that song from Roberta. Thanks, London.

Heard from my daughter, and she reminded me that this was the anniversary of Bud's death. She always said that A Mighty fortress is Our God kept going through her mind.

So, for Sunday, and as my goodnight song.

Good Monday morning, WA2K folks.

edgar, Had no idea that Peter Graves and James Arness were brothers. I guess most of us remember him from Gunsmoke. Thanks, Texas

Hey, Brit. Love We Are Family. Gene Hackman in The Birdcage was hilarious.

Rock, I know what you mean by the time change. "spring forward, fall back". Another mnemonic device that I always confuse. Never heard mudcraft, but they were good. Thanks, Kansas.

Today is K.D. Lang's birthday and here is an appropriate one by her and a tribute to Peggy Lee.
