A heavy cigar smoker, Freud endured more than 30 operations during his life due to oral cancer. In September 1939 he prevailed on his doctor and friend Max Schur to assist him in suicide.[citation needed] After reading Balzac's La Peau de chagrin in a single sitting he said, "My dear Schur, you certainly remember our first talk. You promised me then not to forsake me when my time comes. Now it is nothing but torture and makes no sense any more." Schur administered three doses of morphine over many hours that resulted in Freud's death on 23 September 1939

@edgarblythe,
edgar, I did some research as well. Mr. Wizard always inspires that with his movies. Also been keeping an eye on Hurricane Rick off the Baja. It's a Cat 4.

Thanks for the blurb on Freud. Yep, very sad, Texas.

Liked the Townes Van Zandt song. I guess cocaine was pretty available at one time.

Time for me to say goodnight and I think I shall do so with two songs. One by Bob Marley's son, and the other by Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto

First Ziggy Marley with whom I agree. It's his birthday.

We'll dedicate this one to Barry the Brit who is kicking back somewhere in London.

The Townes song was a mistake. Something I listened to before. I had intended playing the real Status Quo. (Actually, the Townes song was better).

Ah, Mr. Moose. Love Tomorrow's People.

and Brit. I can still do the Bossa Nova.

Found it a mite difficult to enter our cyber radio station today. Happens sometimes, but music and dancing has always been my downfall.

Two things today, y'all.

First, It's George C. Scott's birthday. (had no idea he was a relative of F. Scott Fitzgerald)

A tribute to George followed by a flautist that I love.

Now, Herbie Mann. (used to get him and Herbie Hancock confused)

I have always liked Steve and Eydie. And George C Scott has been a favorite of mine, ever since I first noticed him, in Dr Strangelove.

@edgarblythe,
I didn't know that Ricky did that one, edgar. Didn't the Mills Bros. do it as well?

One of my favorites by Ricky Nelson, along with Travelin' Man.

We'll dedicate this one to Phoenix because she likes the music and the philosophy behind it.

@Letty,
That song was done by the Mills Brothers, Ray Charles and at least a dozen other artists. The Mills did the oldest version I know of. Garden Party was special, because Rick did it so well and also because he wrote it.

@edgarblythe,
Strange, my response vanished again.
Thanks for the info, edgar. I called glow worms lightning bugs and they were all over the place at night in Virginia.

As kids, we caught them in a jar.

This is priceless, folks. If anyone remembers firefly. This was her/his identity song.

I also love the Mills Brothers. My favorite by them is Across the Alley From the Alamo. Bette Midler is another of my favorite artists.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, do you happen to know the members of that Pied Piper group? Love Embracable You, incidentally.

Well, folks, here's something that most of us know. The origin of the pied piper was from Robert Browning.

So, Willy, let you and me be wipers
Of scores out with all men"especially pipers:
And, whether they pipe us free, from rats or from mice,
If we've promised them aught, let us keep our promise.

The Pied Piper Of Hamelin
Robert Browning

Another Pied Piper song, y'all.

@Letty,
The Pied Pipers individually are unknown to me. I know Sinatra and Jo Stafford have sung with them.

@edgarblythe,
Yep, I adore Johnny Mercer and, of course, Jo Stafford.

It used to be when I listened to music, I did not pay any attention to the performer's name.

Here's a good example. Today is Laura Nyro's birthday and I know most of what she did, but never once looked at her name.
