Lovely, edgar. I can listen to Sinatra do that one and it reminds me of Virginia.

Hmmm. Wonder what happened to all the animals?

the fox, the squirrel, the moose, (no, I won't say chipmonks) Razz

Time for me to say goodnight and I think I shall do so with one great jazz man, y'all

Here it is, replete with lyrics.

Pennies in a stream
Falling leaves, a sycamore
Moonlight in Vermont

Icy finger-waves
Ski trails on a mountainside
Snowlight in Vermont

Telegraph cables, they sing down the highway
And travel each bend in the road
People who meet in this romantic setting
Are so hypnotized by the lovely

Ev'ning summer breeze
The warbling of a meadowlark
Moonlight in Vermont
You and I and Moonlight in Vermont

Goodnight, world

From Letty with love

When this recording was new, many radio stations censored it, not wanting to create a frenzy of jingoistic fervor.

edgar, that was a great song by Johnny Burnette. "...I'll close my eyes and see you..." reminds me of the song from The Bridges of Madison County. Also reminds me that the final frontier is the imagination of the human mind.

Urs, welcome back, gal. Love that one by Robbie Williams, but I'm not certain that I agree with the philosophy of it.

Guess whose birthday is today, y'all.

Don McClean, and he's doing something different.

I cannot believe that I found the hawkman after all this time. Hope Bob of Boston drops by our wee cyber radio later.

@Letty,
Moonlight in Vermont

Only standard I can think of...that has no rhyming lyrics...and
Quote:
The lyrics are also metrically subtle"each verse (not counting the bridge) is a haiku.

@panzade,
panz, I didn't even notice that, buddy. Thanks for the analysis.

Today is Sting and the Police's birthday, and this one's title took me aback, a bit.

Heeeeeeee's Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to Letty for waking me from my slumber.

I'm in the middle of re-reading Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Throughout the book I found poetry that really impressed me.

example:

Roads Go Ever On by J. R. R. Tolkien
Roads go ever ever on,
Over rock and under tree,
By caves where never sun has shone,
By streams that never find the sea;
Over snow by winter sown,
And through the merry flowers of June,
Over grass and over stone,
And under mountains in the moon.

Roads go ever ever on,
Under cloud and under star.
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.
Eyes that fire and sword have seen,
And horror in the halls of stone
Look at last on meadows green,
And trees and hills they long have known.

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way,
Where many paths and errands meet.

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with weary feet,
Until it joins some larger way,
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

The Road goes ever on and on
Out from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone.
Let others follow, if they can!
Let them a journety new begin.
But I at last with weary feet
Will turn towards the lighted inn,
My evening-rest and sleep to meet.

Still 'round the corner there may wait
A new road or secret gate;
And though I oft have passed them by,
A day will come at last when I
Shall take the hidden paths that run
West of the Moon, East of the Sun.

@bobsmythhawk,
Bob, Welcome back. It's been a long time buddy and I love that poem. Puts me in mind of Frost's The Road Not Taken, and I am stunned at the line, "...East of the Sun and west of the moon..."

Hope you can do YouTube, 'cause here is Diana Krall with a beauty, hawkman.

Thanks, edgar, for your comments on the other songs, etc played on our radio.

John Wesley Harden's version of Bob Dylan'song about The Messengers was intriguing. I do believe his reference to Eli is biblical.

Urs, I wasn't familiar with "The Boss's" Wrecking ball, but it must have had to do with the destruction of Meadowland, New Jersey. Thanks, gal. Don't know much about sports nor stadiums.

Here's one with a reference to Eli, and I do believe it means God. I feel this is true because of Jesus' words as he died. My God, my God why has thou forsaken me.

@edgarblythe,
Oops, edgar. Thanks for that Bob Dylan version. Really like that one. I just found out that John Wesley Harding was a notorious outlaw of the "old west". Strange, he shot a guy for snoring. Then, I noticed, that his artifacts were sold for tons of money. Strange how people (including Bob) see bits of good in killers.

Well, folks, today is Groucho Marx's birthday, and here is his signature song.

October 3 is a national holiday in Germany - German Unification. And I used to think we would not live history. Then so many changes happened.
