@edgarblythe,
Hilarious, edgar. I remember Ben, but I can't think of a better song to parody than Achy Breaky Heart.

More serendipity. I was looking for one thing and found something unique, folks.

George Formby, Sr. (4 October 1875 " 8 February 1921) was the father of George Formby, Jr., and a star in his own right. He performed in the Edwardian music halls. Singing in a sardonic, naive but somehow knowing style, plagued by ill-health (he made light of his tuberculosis) he was one of the highest paid entertainers of his day

Thanks, Texas, for helping me to keep WA2K radio on the air.

Leaning on a Lamppost is pretty good. Here is George Burns in a singa long with Mitch Miller and the gang.

edgar, George and Mitch never cease to amaze me. Hard to believe that George lived to be one hundred and Mitch is still alive. Hmmm. guess they made safer cigarettes and cigars back then. Thanks for the sing along, buddy.

dys, that song was beautiful. A Winter Hymnal by Fleet Foxes. Love the title of the group and the visual was awesome. Thanks, cowboy. I guess the season that I miss the most is autumn, y'all.

Strange, I just found out that Guy Mitchell took his last name from Mitch Miller.

Remember this one, folks?

Jimi Hendrix closed on the Sunday night/Monday morning.
Here's a list of those invited to play but declined....
Declined invitations

* The Doors were considered as a potential performing band, but canceled at the last moment; the cancellation was most likely due to Jim Morrison's known and vocal distaste for performing in large outdoor venues.[20] Doors drummer John Densmore attended, however, and in the film, he can be seen on the side of the stage during Joe Cocker's set.
* Led Zeppelin was asked to perform, their manager Peter Grant stating: "We were asked to do Woodstock and Atlantic were very keen, and so was our US promoter, Frank Barsalona. I said no because at Woodstock we'd have just been another band on the bill". Instead the group went on with their hugely successful summer tour, playing that weekend south of the festival at the Asbury Park Convention Hall in New Jersey. Their only time out taken was to attend Elvis Presley's show at the International Hotel in Las Vegas, on August 12.[21]
* Jethro Tull declined to perform. Ian Anderson is reported to have later said he "didn't want to spend [his] weekend in a field of unwashed hippies".[22] Another theory proposes that the band felt the event would be "too big a deal" and might kill their career before it started.[22]. However, other artists from the time have expressed the view that, before the festival, there was little indication of the importance the event would eventually come to assume. Although Jethro Tull did not perform, their music was played over the public address system. In the film, during the interview with the promoters (where they are discussing how much money they will be losing on the venture), the songs "Beggar's Farm" and "Serenade to a Cuckoo", from the album This Was, can be heard in the background. Jethro Tull did perform at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970.
* The Byrds were invited, but chose not to participate, not figuring Woodstock to be any different from all the other music festivals that summer. In addition, there were concerns about money. As bassist John York remembers: "We were flying to a gig and Roger [McGuinn] came up to us and said that a guy was putting on a festival in upstate New York. But at that point they weren't paying all of the bands. He asked us if we wanted to do it and we said, 'No'. We had no idea what it was going to be. We were burned out and tired of the festival scene. [...] So all of us said, 'No, we want a rest' and missed the best festival of all.'"[23]
* Tommy James and the Shondells declined an invitation. Lead singer Tommy James stated later: "We could have just kicked ourselves. We were in Hawaii, and my secretary called and said, 'Yeah, listen, there's this pig farmer in upstate New York that wants you to play in his field.' That's how it was put to me. So we passed, and we realized what we'd missed a couple of days later."[24]
* Bob Dylan was in negotiations to play, but pulled out when his son became ill. He also was unhappy about the number of hippies piling up outside his house near the originally planned site.[25] He would go on to perform at the Isle of Wight Festival two weeks later.
* Mind Garage declined because they thought it would not be a big deal and had a higher paying gig elsewhere.[26]
* The Moody Blues were included on the original Wallkill poster as performers, but decided to back out after being booked in Paris the same weekend.[27]
* Spirit also declined an invitation to play, as they already had shows planned and wanted to play those instead, not knowing how big Woodstock would be. [28]
* Joni Mitchell was originally slated to perform, but canceled at the urging of her manager to avoid missing a scheduled appearance on The Dick Cavett Show.[29]
* It's A Beautiful Day cancelled at the last minute.

With hindsight,I'll bet they're kicking themselves! (Info from Wikipedia)

Laters WA2K,gotta get back to "day time" asap!
Down and gone,
Woosh!

Good morning, WA2K radio.

Wow! edgar, I just checked out the movie from whence came that song by Donovan. What a sad documentary on a young mother in the London of the 60's

Tragic, Texas.

Funny song, mooseman. I saw Slappy in there as well. Loved the bicycle song by Queen. Please keep us posted on your great truck adventure.

Hey, Brit. Thanks for the Woodstock memory and the info on who WASN'T there. Richie Havens did his thing, and it was good. Loved watching him patting his foot as he played that guitar.

And once again, listeners and contributors, Barry has "wooooshed"

A couple of songs this morning, y'all. One inspired by our Dutchy, and the other to honor a birthday man.

Happy Birthday, Jimmy Webb.

letty, I like that version of 500 Miles. I knew it by Bobby Bare and also Peter Paul and Mary.
The Phoenix song reminds me, my daughter may soon be in Phoenix for an award ceremony provided by her bosses.
The information on Woodstock is interesting. I saw the film of it and considered most performances sub par. Am I being fair, considering the conditions they were under? I don't know.
I love Richie Havens. He performs so well and also writes songs.

@edgarblythe,
My word, edgar, I had forgotten The Weavers, but will never forget On Top of Old Smokey.

Hey, Texas, how did we miss this?

(CNN) -- How does it feel? To be on your own? A complete unknown? Bob Dylan might know.
The rock legend was stopped in July by police in Long Branch, New Jersey, who were responding to a call about a suspicious person roaming the neighborhood, police said.
According to Long Branch Police Department Sgt. Michael Ahart, Dylan had been peering into a window of a house that was for sale, which prompted a neighbor to call the police on July 23.
One of two responding officers, Officer Kristie Buble, 24, approached Dylan and asked him for his name.
"She recognized the name, she just really didn't believe it was Bob Dylan," Ahart told CNN. "He was soaking wet because it was raining and he was wearing a hood."
So Buble asked the musician for identification, but he had none.
Buble and her partner, Officer Derrick Meyers, 24, then asked Dylan, 68, to accompany them to where his tour buses were parked. Once they arrived, Dylan showed them identification.
"Dylan was really cool about the whole incident," Ahart said. He said he asked the singer why he had been walking in the rain and was told, "I just felt like going for a walk."
Dylan, who is on a national tour with musicians Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp, was in Long Branch on the Jersey shore prior to his performance at a baseball stadium in nearby Lakewood.

Maybe it doesn't pay to be a rollin' stone, Mr. Dylan.

@edgarblythe,
Wow! Never heard Bob talk a song, edgar. Three Angels and the album of Christmas songs may mean a change in his life.

Today is Napoleon Bonaparte' s birthday. (no I'm not going to play the 1812 overture)

This one matches your lyrics to The Battle of New Orleans.

@edgarblythe,
Wow, edgar, I just found out that Johnny married Hank Williams' widow. I love Whispering Pines. The only songs that I have ever heard by Johnny were North to Alaska; The Battle of New Orleans; and Bonaparte's Retreat.

He was called the fisherman and was killed in a car wreck.

Guess we can call it Johnny Horton day on WA2K. Here's another by him and I just researched Jim Bridger who was born in Richmond, Virginia.
