@edgarblythe,
Ever read The Serpent and the Rainbow, edgar? Try it sometimes. It's about zombies.

Loved that one by Harry as usual, Texas, and here's one about black magic.

If It's Magic by Stevie Wonder.
I never heard the Fleetwood Mac version of that song, letty. Not bad.

@edgarblythe,
ah, edgar, Songs in the Key of Life. Love that one by Stevie. Yep, I was surprised that Fleetwood Mac did that one as well.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I hope our Brits are all right. You, too, Mooseman. Heard from our Raggedy; she's fine.

Mercer and Mancini again, y'all

Good morning, WA2K folks.

er, edgar. That Tom and Jerry song sounded a lot like Simon and Garfunkel. Love the bridge song, however.

Hey, Brit. really enjoyed the David Bowie song. Wild is the Wind reminds me that hurricane season is under way here. Bonnie does the Tennessee Waltz in a most unusual rhythm, but I like it. Thanks, London.

Today is Dan Fogelberg's birthday, and I never hear him that I don't think of my Dave.

(Tom and Jerry just made a few records before changing their professional name to Simon and Garfunkel).

I didn't know the song in your fogelberg tribute letty. It's a good 'un, though.

I am pretty sure John Hartford wrote this song.

I'm on holiday in sunny Devon (SW England) at the moment, so here's a fitting old song for your radio listeners:

The style of song was aimed at the drawing room rather than the recital hall and made a considerable impact on Edwardian society. Another famous number from this time was German's setting of Rudyard Kipling’s Rolling Down to Rio.
Glorious Devon! was published in 1905 by Boosey & Co. and was available in three keys C, D & F.

Coombe and Tor, green meadow and lane,
Birds on the waving bough.
Beetling cliffs by the surging main,
Rich red loam for the plough.
Devon's the fount of the bravest blood
That braces England's breed,
Her maidens fair as the apple bud,
And her men are men indeed.

When Adam and Eve were dispossess'd
Of the Garden hard by Heaven,
They planted another one down in the West,
'Twas Devon, 'twas Devon, glorious Devon.

Spirits to old-world heroes wake,
By river and cove and hoe;
Grenville, Hawkins, Raleigh and Drake
And a thousand more we know.
To every hand the wide world o'er
Some slips of the old stock roam,
Loyal friends in peace, dread foes in war
With hearts still true to home.

Old England's counties by the sea
From east to west are seven;
But the gem of that fair galaxy
Is Devon, is Devon, glorious Devon.

Dorset, Somerset, Cornwall, Wales,
May envy the likes of we;
For the flower of the West, the first, the best,
The pick of the bunch us be;
Squab pie, junket and cider brew,
Richest cream of the cow'
What 'ud Old England without 'em do?
And where 'ud 'un be to now?

As crumpy [soft] as a lump of lead
Be a loaf without good leaven,
And the yeast Mother England do use for her bread
Be Devon, be Devon, glorious Devon.

edgar, had no idea that S&G recorded as Tom and Jerry. Wow! Thanks for the info.

I remember Gentle on my Mind by Glen, Texas, but didn't know that John Hartford wrote it. I believe that I like his version better. Thanks, buddy.

Welcome back McTag. Fabulous lyrics and I'm glad that you're "on holiday" as you Brits would say.

Here's the musical version. Strange, I thought that Devon was pronounced DeVON.

Can't forget George Shearing's birthday. This is the most beautiful rendition of "I Cover the Waterfront" that I have ever heard.

@JPB,
Ah, JPB, thanks for letting us know. (nice to see you back, incidentally) The World is Waiting for the Sunrise is the only one that I ever heard by Les and Mary. What a surprise to see that he had a jazz trio, y'all. My first cousin taught me the changes to that one on piano. First time I ever learned to do it. It was in B flat.

Blue Umbrella

Feelings are strange
especially when they come true
and I had a feeling
you'd be leaving soon
so I tried to rearrange
all my emotions
but it seems the same
no matter what I do.

Chorus:
Blue umbrella
rest upon my shoulder
hide the pain
while the rain
makes up my mind
well, my feet are wet
from thinking this thing over
and it's been so long
since I felt the warm sunshine
just give me one good reason
and I promise I won't ask you any more
just give me one extra season
so I can figure out the other four.

Day time
makes me wonder why you left me
night time
makes me wonder what I said
next time
are the words I'd like to plan on
but, last time
was the only thing you said.

Blue umbrella
rest upon my shoulder
hide the pain
while the rain
makes up my mind
well, my feet are wet
from thinking this thing over
and it's been so long
since I felt the warm sunshine
just give me one good reason
and I promise I won't ask you any more
just give me one extra season
so I can figure out the other four.

@RexRed,
Thanks, Rex, for that John Prine song. I understand why his music is considered anachronistic. (never see that word that I don't think of equus; hope he is all right). I recall "Lonliness faster than the Speed of Sound", and Blue Umbrella is the same type music.

Well, Today is Don Ho's birthday, so here is a tribute to him, y'all.

Ah, I remember that race by George Jones, edgar. Thanks.

Guess what I'm listening to, folks.

This group is good. The lead vocalist is fantastic.

In 1964, a friend of mine and his fiance had Rhythm of the Rain for their "special" song.
