Those are some good ones, Barry.
Good morning, radio folk. Another 100 degree day ahead. Possible rain showers Saturday.

Good morning, WA2K folks.

Thanks, edgar, for that song by the Righteous Brothers. Great, incidentally, and although I never cared for Doris Day, I know that goodnight song. It wasn't until later that I learned to appreciate her via her personal life.

Welcome back, Alex. Never heard that one by 24 Gonetrust. They're good and I listened to another by them. Thanks, buddy.

Well, folks, our Brit always plays the most interesting music on our cyber radio station. I didn't understand Girl in the War by Josh Ritter, but it isn't always necessary to understand to appreciate.

Now Steeleye Span, I liked and understood. Every country has its foibles, right?

Ah, Lady Day. Certainly know that one, buddy. I think the movie Lady Sings the Blues didn't quite tell it the way it was. I am always gratified to learn how important it is for children to have a strong male influence in their lives.

Have to hand it to Sidney Poitier, y'all. He refused to use his academy award to exploit the Civil Rights movement. Hope I recalled that correctly.

Two distinguished birthdays today. Louis Armstrong and Percy Shelley.

First, a tribute to sachmo.

Hungarian Border Guard? love it!

Now from Shelley, one of my favorites! When I taught this poem, one kid interpreted "trunkless" to mean without trunks.

Percy Bysshe Shelley - Ozymandias

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

I think he made his point about ruthless rulers, y'all.

Gus was right, I need to calm down.

Never cared for Billy BobThornton, but today is his birthday, and I just learned that he could sing. He and Angelina didn't make it, but here is his song to her.

@Letty,
Loius Armstrong's appeal was universal.
Here is another Little Willie John song.

Of the Billy Bob performances I've seen, I like about half.

They have lately been adding some of Belafonte's recordings. Discovered this one just now.

@edgarblythe,
Ah, edgar, how long ago we did spirituals, remember?

Loved that one by Harry, Texas, and here's one that we both like.

Thanks, Rock. It's very unlike me to get upset over things that I can't fix.

@edgarblythe,
Wow! Marty was a man of many voices all of them good. I could not believe my ears. That man is singing an old jazz song, edgar. Loved it!

My preoccupation with the health care system is a subset of fear, actually.

Ah, I used to sing this one in Sunday school, y'all.

Thanks, edgar, For Janis Ian's light a light (finally) If I cannot resolve my problem with FPL, I may have to light a candle or two.

Soccer George, Welcome back. Ah, the Gentle Giant again. Love him, buddy, and thanks.

Time to say goodnight, and I think I shall do so with two songs. One inspired by our Latin Lover's Apache, and the other by Peter Paul and Mary.

What a shocker to note how many notables have Cherokee blood in their veins.

Love this one, y'all.
