Good morning, WA2K radio audience.

edgar, I am stunned by Leonard Cohen's dead pan philosophy. I think he says it better than anyone. I listened two or three times, Texas. Thank you for reminding us via Cohen.

Mr. Wizard, I have a confession. I read several summaries of "Where Eagles Dare", and I understood nothing. The music was powerful, however, and even more so was the quote from Richard III:

The world is grown so bad, that wrens make prey where eagles dare not perch.

Rocky, I too could not sleep. Thanks for the Red Headed Stranger by Willie Nelson, Kansas.

Last evening I waatched the movie "Outbreak. Here is a brief summary, folks.

Outbreak (1995) is a suspense film starring Dustin Hoffman, Rene Russo, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey. The film was directed by Wolfgang Petersen. In addition, Outbreak features Cuba Gooding, Jr., Donald Sutherland, and Patrick Dempsey.

The film focuses on an outbreak of a fictional Ebola-like virus called Motaba. Its primary settings are government disease control centers USAMRIID and the CDC, and the fictional town of Cedar Creek, California. Outbreak shows how far the military and civilian agencies might go to contain the spread.

The film was released in March 1995 and proved a solid box office success. The film was nominated for various awards but failed to garner any major award nominations. It also raised various "what-if" scenarios: media outlets began to question what the government would really do in a similar situation and if the CDC has plans in case an outbreak ever does occur. A real-life outbreak of the Ebola virus occurred in Zaire only a few months after the film was made.

Morning song, y'all.

@Letty,
"Where Eagles Dare" is a complex plot and when McClain stripped it down to a movie script, he improved on the book -- it's fairly easy to follow the intrigue in the film but even if one gets lost, it's one of the best spy action thrillers in the genre. The ending on a road alongside and over an icy river is chilling (tee-hee). "The Eye of the Needle" is another with Donald Sutherland, taking place in WWII and having to do with the allies placing decoy airplanes, tanks and other war materials on the coast of England to fool the Nazis about the landing at D Day.

@Lightwizard,
Oops, Mr. Wizard, didn't see that one either, but I love the idea of the plot. Could NOT find the theme from that movie, however.

Now we know that the planned beach was called Omaha Beach, and after many years of searching, I found the poem by Bink Noll. I love that feeling of discovery.

Here's the best than I can do, folks.

@Letty,
It was the Pas de Calais that was opposite the English shore on the channel where all the fake build up of armament took place (using a lot of plywood, paint and netting "to hide them" --yeah, barely, but it fooled the Nazi high command down to the man). Eventually, forces did land in Calais but the Normandy surprise worked really well, except for Eisenhower not using the British anti-mine equipment which was offered to the US forces and sending most of the tanks to the bottom of the ocean (US egoism is not just unforgivable for recent folly). Just think, if the Germans had not run out of fuel, the many tragic mistakes made on the European campaign may have resulted in another six months of fighting (that is, until the time to build two more A bombs -- we were fresh out after Nagasaki). Not much available in the score to "Eye of the Needle," but if you like a rousing march for Memorial Day, here's John Williams' march from "Midway," not a great movie but a memorable theme:

Thanks, edgar, for your comments on the music.

Mr. Wizard, I love the sound of the romance languages. Pas de Calais is lovely. Thanks for the Midway march. John Williams has written some great scores. Don't think I saw that movie either, however.

Love this next one, y'all. It features both the actual footage and the movie version of Saving Private Ryan.

A daughter stopped in, unexpectedly, with two of her children and then my son was here at the same time. We had a good visit.

I see the information on other videos alongside battle for Normandy is one from saving Private Ryan. I did not care for that movie.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, I didn't even see the movie Saving Private Ryan. Right now, I'm trying to remember the story of the Sullivan brothers that died together in WWII resulting in "The Sole Survivor Act." More about that later, folks.

Loved that Marty Robbins song, and here's another that reflects a small war.

Seems to me that there was a movie about that as well.

@Letty,
"Midway" was a mixed-bag with a sticky sweet sentimental personal story between Charlton Heston and his son that belies the documentary style of the film. It's the most complete movie about the battle at Midway which is surprising as that was just as as important as any part of WWII. The special effects aren't that special, using a lot of stock footage -- as I remember, it was released not long after "Tora! Tora! Tora!"

Ah, edgar. Donovan is good, but Marty is better.

Mr. Wizard, now you will send me walking through the stacks again. I know that I saw Tora Tora Tora, but can't recall it.

Well, folks, I did find this and more synchronicity.

The Fighting Sullivans inspired the movie Saving Private Ryan? Shocked

Now it is time for me to say goodnight, and I shall do so with this tribute.

Good morning WA2K radio audience. Awakened to another lake in both front and back yard.

edgar, loved that Bobby Darin song. Had no idea that he did that one.

Rockman, Fantastic song by Johnny and Hank, Jr. Kaw Liga. Thanks, Kansas.

Naturally, AMC/TCM featured World War II movies, one of which was The Sullivan Brothers. I was particularly interested in this one, however.

I went to sleep before I could see it. Tried my best to find the main theme song from the movie, but could only come up with the lyrics.

It was just a little walk
In the warm Italian sun
But it wasn't an easy thing

And poets are writing
The tale of that fight
And songs for children to sing

Let them sing of the men of a fighting platoon
Let them sing of the job they've done
How they came across the sea to sunny Italy
And took a little walk in the sun

It's that walk that leads down
Through a Phillipine town
And it hits Highway Seven, north of Rome

It's the same road they had
Coming out of Stalingrad
It's that old Lincoln Highway back home
It's wherever men fight to be free

Having seen it some time back, I do recall the ending involving something of a miracle involving water. Perhaps Mr. Wizard can help.

Today is Bob Dylan's birthday, and I couldn't find a tribute to "the jester" but did find this was which I really like, y'all.
