and as our Brit, Barry climbs the stairs, Letty arises to acknowledge his music. ( all except, "have a nice day" Razz )

Wow! Janet Seidel just did a jazz performance out of a Trolley. Loved it, folks. Yep, we'll dedicate that to our Dutchy.

Escala was also fabulous. Four girls who know how to play the violin.

My word, I had forgotten about Alfie and just realized that Michael Caine has been knighted by the queen. Great one by Stevie and Burt.

Today is Darius Rucker's birthday, and he is a member of Hootie and the Blowfish. Let's hear one by him, folks.

That's why I didn't recognize Darius. Didn't know the Blowfish names. That version of the Trolley song was fabulous.
Stevie is so unique and good. He has changed in many ways over the years, each time getting even better.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, love that Christmas tree. Razz Thanks for that one by The BeeGees, buddy. Strange, folks, I could not find the original Van Morrison last evening so I had to play Michael Buble's version. Today is Richie Valens' birthday, and I could not find the original version of La Bamba by him, so I have to play this version by the guy who did his life story.

I like La Bamba by Richie. But, my favorite song by him, he wrote for his future bride, after her father broke them up:

@edgarblythe,
edgar, don't recall the one about Donna. What a brief life Richie had and how very, very sad. I see that he adapted La Bamba from a Mexican folks song. Nothing beats the original. Thanks, Texas.

Speaking of originals, today is Sir Arthur Sullivan's birthday, and his famous Pirates of Penzance is the one that I'm going to play, folks, but it is definitely NOT the original. It is entertaining, however.

The lyrics.

The Happy Wanderer

I love to go a-wandering,
Along the mountain track,
And as I go, I love to sing,
My knapsack on my back.
Chorus:
Val-deri,Val-dera,
Val-deri,
Val-dera-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha
Val-deri,Val-dera.
My knapsack on my back.

I love to wander by the stream
That dances in the sun,
So joyously it calls to me,
"Come! Join my happy song!"

I wave my hat to all I meet,
And they wave back to me,
And blackbirds call so loud and sweet
From ev'ry green wood tree.

High overhead, the skylarks wing,
They never rest at home
But just like me, they love to sing,
As o'er the world we roam.

Oh, may I go a-wandering
Until the day I die!
Oh, may I always laugh and sing,
Beneath God's clear blue sky!

Once, however, I wandered too far and got lost here. It took a lot of positive vibes to remain calm and find my way back to the camp site at Camp Creek.

Here is what Valens possibly saw in Mexico, that inspired him to record that song.

I know so many Gilbert and Sullivan songs, even bits of Pirates of Penzance. One day I will watch an entire production.

I have Happy Wanderer on record. Always thought it's a great song.

@edgarblythe,
So many popular songs, such as the dance that you played, stem from folk songs, edgar. The Happy Wanderer was not one, however.

"The Happy Wanderer" ("Der fröhliche Wanderer" or "Mein Vater war ein Wandersmann") is a popular song by Friedrich-Wilhelm Möller written shortly after World War II. It is often mistaken for a German folk song, but it is actually an original composition. His sister Edith Möller conducted a small amateur children's and youth choir in Schaumburg County, Northern Germany, internationally named Obernkirchen Children's Choir, in Germany named Schaumburger Märchensänger.
In 1953, BBC Radio aired the choir's winning performance at Llangollen International Eisteddfod, an annual arts festival in north-east Wales. The broadcast turned the cheerful encore into an instant hit. On January 22, 1954, the song entered the UK singles chart, and would stay on the chart - only a Top 12 at the time - for 26 non-consecutive weeks. With BBC Radio's strong international influence, "The Happy Wanderer" suddenly turned up everywhere, e.g. as the winning song of the 1955 calypso road march season of the Trinidad Carnival (prompting protest that from now on, only calypsoes should be chosen over foreign music).

Hey. Let's make today wander day on WA2K, shall we?

edgar, I remember that song by Patti Page. Great, Texas!
Hank's Ramblin Man I had never heard. "...til god calls home this ramblin' man.." got to me.

Izzie, Welcome back, hun.

I love The Turtles "So Happy Together." Ah, that brings back some memories.

Lee Marvin's song, "Wandering Star" was wonderful. I don't recall that one from Paint Your Wagon. What a deep voice he had; very different.

I like Ike, the falcon. His eyes caught mine immediately. Uhoh!

Well, y'all, we know about wanderlust, right? Paul McCartney did this one as well, but the trip around the world was fabulous and the vocals funny.
