Good morning, WA2K folks.

edgar, thanks for the info on Mr. Bojangles, and Rocky, never heard of Slim Harpo, but he was a great blues performer. Thanks, buddy. That ballad from Easy Rider was a new one to me. Awesome, Texas. Deportee says a lot about the era and the times.

Something a little different this morning, y'all. It appears that today is Bjorn Ulvaeus' birthday (ABBA). Here is one by the group and we'll dedicate this one to BigDice.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, there must be something wrong with Marty's voice or my ears, 'cause I couldn't hear that one. Sorry, Texas, but thanks anyway.

Maybe this one will work, folks. Today is Meadowlark Lemon's birthday so guess what I'm gonna play. One of the members of the opposite team blocked the last shot of the melody, however.

@Letty,
About a third of the time, videos don't work right for me when I first open them. I had to open and shut ABBA, for instance, before getting it on the third try.

@edgarblythe,
(taps volume meter; hmmm, it's all right now)

Since it is Jason Lee's birthday, how about this one.

Could you hear Sweet Georgia Brown, edgar?

@Barry The Mod,
Hey, Brit. I find both of those songs fascinating because the one by Bobby Gentry(Fansy) only made it by becoming a high class prostitute and the other by Dusty was inspired by The Son of a Preacher Man. Thanks, buddy, I've been thinking along those lines for many years now. I guess it has to do with my preoccupation with the number two.

Well, today is Al Pacino's birthday, and I love this scene from "The Scent of a Woman", y'all.

UhOh! I forgot that it was Saturday. Everyone is out having fun without me. Guess I'll have to play some blues.

Happy birthday, Albert King.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMbmkBxWP7U&feature=related

King was a left-handed "upside-down/backwards" guitarist. He was left-handed, but usually played right-handed guitars flipped over upside-down so the low E string was on the bottom. In later years he played a custom-made guitar that was basically left-handed, but had the strings reversed (as he was used to playing). He also used very unorthodox tunings (i.e., tuning as low as C to allow him to make sweeping string bends). A "less is more" type blues player, he was known for his expressive "bending" of notes, a technique characteristic of blues guitarists.

His first minor hit came in 1958 with "I'm a Lonely Man"

@Barry The Mod,
Fantastic, Brit. "Why can't a woman be like a man?" Remember that?

Shirley Brown and Barbara Mason did a good job with those two songs. Now we know about two sides of the same story. Wonder who won?

Sorry that your kids couldn't make it. Yep, Modman, Saturday night is the loneliest night of the week.

I have never heard this jazz group before but I was surprised at the appelation of Nat King Thomas. Couldn't find a thing about them after doing a search either.

Saw that about Bea Arthur. Loved Maud as well. Wonder if Betty White is still with us. She was soooo funny in Lake Placid.

@Barry The Mod,
That child was fantastic, Izzie. Thanks for the hugs, incidentally.

Oh, my God, I just watched the Brit's Golden Girl video. Hilarious! Betty White is still with us, incidentally.

Seems to me that I recall singing this as a child.

London Bridge is falling down
Falling down
Falling down

London Bridge is falling down
My Fair Lady.

Well, time for me to say goodnight, and since it is Ella Fitzgerald's birthday, I chose this one. So glad that she didn't do the scat bit. I guess one might say this reflects me tonight.
