@Letty,
Afternoon Lovelies...

here is my weather report for the day....... and a bit of walk...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t30cX6OGO0U

Razz

I have walked on the high wire
With no net to catch me
I have stood in the spotlight
Where each flaw could be seen
And I've anteed my faith
To the mercy of strangers
'Cause when you ride on the big ride
You don't ride for free

If we're only brief candles
Let's burn for a day
If we're only poor players
Let's rush to the stage
And if we don't know the ending
Let's begin anyway
It starts in your heart
An expression of faith
It starts in your heart
An expression of faith

Though the north wind is freezing
And the thunderclouds gather
Still we scatter the new seed
And we trust in the sun
Though this world is uncertain
We deliver our children
To life's great adventure
And the promise of love

If we're only brief candles
Let's burn for a day
If we're only poor players
Let's rush to the stage
And if we don't know the ending
Let's begin anyway
It starts in your heart
An expression of faith
It starts in your heart
An expression of faith

Some call it wisdom
And some call it pain
To find out the truth
To discover it's name
But when all that we know
Doesn't change anything
Expressions of faith
Are all that remain

If we're only brief candles
Let's burn for a day
If we're only poor players
Let's rush to the stage
And if we don't know the ending
Let's begin anyway
It starts in your heart
An expression of faith
It starts in your heart
An expression of faith

Hey, Izzie. It's Britian's turn to get those thunderboomers. Love B.J. Thomas's Raindrops, gal, as well as Ella's Stormy weather. Thanks.

JPB, WOW! that is one fabulous group. Why do they call the song Birdland? The singers in the background rather remind me of The Swingle Singers.

What a surprise to find that they came from France.

Guess what this is; don't peek.

Oh, I hate telling people it's sunny and seventy (not me, yet) in OC and my tuberous begonias are peeking up out of the soil. I hope I have the hang of it and they don't rot before they get going. I think I always overwater them.

Manhattan Transfer did a vocalized cover

The song is named after a jazz club in Vienna owned by one of the band members.

wikipedia wrote:
Birdland may refer to:

In jazz:

* Birdland (jazz club), a famous jazz club in New York City, originally located on 52nd Street, now at 315 W. 44th St. The term "Birdland" comes from "Bird", the nickname of great jazz saxophonist Charlie Parker.
* Birdland (Vienna), a jazz club in Vienna, founded by Joe Zawinul
* "Birdland", an instrumental composed by Joe Zawinul in 1977 for his band Weather Report on the album Heavy Weather.
* "Birdland", a song by Patti Smith from her 1975 album Horses, inspired in part by rhythm and blues pianist Huey Smith and Peter Reich, son of Wilhelm Reich.
* "Birdland", a vocalese cover of the Zawinul composition by Jon Hendricks and The Manhattan Transfer, from the 1979 album Extensions.

Here's the Manhattan Transfer version (I prefer the original) -

@JPB,
Hey, JPB. You just gave our listeners a quick study in ornithology. Thanks, gal. Love Mahattan Tranfer, incidentally.

I've been to George Shearing's birdland. Too young and too dumb to be intiminated by the "Big Apple"

Ah, those block chords by George. Love 'em

@JPB,
JPB, I know that song as well. Strange, I guess I have always had a penchant for jazz Speaking of Birdland, I met this guy. He autographed a photo that we had made. "Nothing but the Soul".

@edgarblythe,
well, edgar, I did a bit of research on The Band, and found out that they toured in Chicago with Bob Dylan. Quite a history there, Texas and thanks for the awakening song.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think I shall do so with some water music by Handel and Let there be Love by Nat.

First, Nat.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApbGsQAsWOY&feature=related

Now Handel

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0bHwyK0zfs

Water music is always so soothing. Strange that Charles Trenet though of the sea as a woman, and Bobby Darin thought of it as a man. La Mer and Le Mer.

As always,

From Letty (let there be love)

Here is a woman who spent her entire life at home with her mother - Never a date in her life. She promised her dying mother she would try to be a success. She is 47, singing in public for the first time.
