@djjd62,
dj, I didn't know that Leonard Cohen wrote poems,

Summer-Haiku from "The Spice-Box of Earth"
For Frank and Marian Scott

Silence

and a deeper silence

when the crickets
hesitate

Things are not good right now, so I will say goodnight a bit early.

As always,

From Letty with love

Cohen was an award winning poet before recording songs. He has written two novels, Beautiful Losers and The Favorite Game.

Nancy Wilson is always good. Sinatra is of course tops with me.

Good morning, WA2K radio.

Thanks to all of you for the music and exploration thereof. Hey, what about the working woman?

Another song of exploration.

It's carnival time at Ipanema Beach, y'all, and here is the real girl from there.

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/14/15349282_bd2f8bf282.jpg

Sang this once long ago, but in English.

The English lyrics.

The Girl from Ipanema

(by Antonio Carlos Jobim & Vinicius de Moreas
English words by Norman Gimbel)

Tall and tan and young and lovely,
the Girl from Ipanema goes walking and
when she passes each one she passes goes a-a-a-h...

When she moves it's like a samba
that swings so smooth and sways so gently and
when she passes each one she passes goes a-a-a-h...

Oh--but he watches so sadly,
How--can he tell her he loves her
Yes--he would give his heart gladly

but each day when she walks to the sea
she looks straight ahead, not at he...

Tall and tan and young and lovely,
the Girl from Ipanema goes walking and
when she passes each one she smiles but she doesn't see
she just doesn't see...

she just doesn't see...

Tall and tan and young and lovely,
the Girl from Ipanema goes walking and
when she passes each one she passes goes a-a-a-h...

When she moves it's like a samba
that swings so smooth and sways so gently and
when she passes each one she passes goes a-a-a-h...

Oh--but he watches so sadly,
How--can he tell her he loves her
Yes--he would give his heart gladly

but each day when she walks to the sea
she looks straight ahead, not at he...

Tall and tan and young and lovely,
the Girl from Ipanema goes walking and
when she passes each one she smiles but she doesn't see
she just doesn't see...

she just doesn't see...

she just doesn't see.

JPB, welcome back. My, my. Al Jolson resembled Dane Lam conducting a lovely Dvorak piece Razz Great looking conductor, however, and he really got into his role. Loved it.

Also like the instructions on how to REALLY dance in the streets. Yes, jazz is America's gift to the world. Thanks, gal.

edgar. When I was a kid and listened to my sister do that one, I thought it was Mister Saturday Dance. Love Miss Lee and her version. She's hard to beat, no?

Well, y'all, I finally found a song that I have been seeking out for ages. Don't ask, cause I don't know why I know it.

A little background on the performer.

Edmundo Ros:

He enrolled into a military school, where he became interested in music and learned to play the euphonium or bombardin. From 1927 to 1937 his family lived in Caracas, Venezuela. He played in a military band for four years. Later, he received a music scholarship from the government. In June 1937, he moved to London, England to study classical music at the Royal Academy of Music. He soon returned to playing popular music and also recorded several sides as a sideman to Fats Waller who was visiting London in 1938.Born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Ros' mother was an African-Venezuelan; his father was Scottish. Ros' parents separated not long after he was born.

@edgarblythe,
I don't know that song at all, but I like it Razz

I do know this one, but I don't know why. Somehow I see it as a background to a old cartoon.

The Lost Chevrolet

We went driving cross the USA
Looked at my pal I didn’t know what to say
We were driving my pal and me
Starting from Detroit wending through Tennessee

We were looking for the lost Chevrolet
Lost Chevrolet Lost Chevrolet
We went rolling cross the USA
Looking for the lost Chevrolet (Chevrolet)

Cruising through the heartlands with a wailing song
Looked at my pal I wondered what went wrong
We were so lost my pal and me
Didn’t know what to do trucking through Missouri

Picked up a hitcher in Montana
He looked at my pal in his bandana
Told a story to my pal and me
As we went cruising near the town of San Luis

Said he was looking for the lost Chevrolet
Lost Chevrolet Lost Chevrolet
He was hitching cross the USA
Looking for the lost Chevrolet (Chevrolet)

We were driving cross the Golden Gate
We already covered nearly every state
Got discouraged my pal and me
Because we kept on searching but could never see

We were looking for the lost Chevrolet
Lost Chevrolet Lost Chevrolet
We went rolling cross the USA
Looking for the lost Chevrolet (Chevrolet)

JPB, love that one about the blackbird and the crow. Wow! I love a rhumba. Maybe you got it right. It may be the music behind a cartoon. Emundo Ros is still alive, incidentally.

dys, the fijian music was fabulous, o boy of the cow.

Greg Brown's "Blue Car" was good as well. Lovely scenery, too.

edgar, the lyrics fit perfectly with dys' blue car. Thanks, Texas.

Hmmm. Maybe Fats is the reason that we are familiar with the rhumba man.

I think everyone knows him and he also played pipe organ. Learned that from my brother-in-law. Also saw a stage presentation of "Ain't Misbehavin'' in Roanke, Virginia.

I'll bet the joint is jumpin all over the place, Fats.
