@Dutchy,
Welcome back, eagle. Thanks for playing that funny song, and the video was great. Wow! 110? There's a big drought here, mate, and I think my front yard is a lost cause.

Our navigator is back, and he indicated that he and his lady in waiting loved this song, so this is for them, y'all.

Good morning. It's a nice warm morning, but the cold is moving down from Oklahoma. The trees have been budding for a few weeks. My song concerns a Mister Christopher Columbus.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, I had to check out Fletcher Henderson, and I noted that he was recognized by Ken Burns in 2000. Thanks, Texas; loved that swing song.

I also missed your Caruso, and I think you know how much I admire him. Faust was often misunderstood, I discovered. In many circles, his name meant fortunate, but an interpretation of his pact with the devil, turned him into a culprit.

Today is Robby Benson's birthday, so here is one by him, folks.

Good morning WA2K.

Edgar: If you are interested in the movie Dr Faustus with Eliz. Taylor and Richard Burton, it premiered on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) a few months ago. Although it is not on in February, TCM repeats its movies and will probably air it again in the near future. It's not the same story as the opera, Faust which I prefer. "Salut! demeure" is one of my favorite arias.

Here are some January 27 birthdays:

1756 - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Austrian composer (d. 1791); 1832 - Lewis Carroll, English author (d. 1898) ; 1885 - Jerome Kern, American composer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerome_Kern)(d. 1945) ; 1908 - William Randolph Hearst, Jr., American newspaper magnate (d. 1993) ; 1918 - Skitch Henderson, English bandleader (d. 2005) ; 1921 - Donna Reed, American actress (d. 1986); 1936 - Troy Donahue, American actor (d. 2001) ; 1940 - James Cromwell, American actor (became an ethical vegan while playing the character of Farmer Hoggett in the movie Babe in 1995. He frequently speaks out on issues regarding animal cruelty for PETA, largely the treatment of pigs.) ; 1944 - Nick Mason, English drummer (Pink Floyd); 1948 - Mikhail Baryshnikov, Russian-American dancer; 1956 - Mimi Rogers, American actress (Her second husband was actor Tom Cruise; they were married from 1987 until 1990.She introduced Cruise to Scientology. She also led others besides Cruise to the church, including Sonny Bono. Later, she left Scientology.); 1957 - Frank Miller, American comic book author and film director (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Miller_(comics); 1964 - Bridget Fonda, American actress and 1965 - Alan Cumming, Scottish actor

Donna Reed, Troy Donahue, James Cromwell,Mikhail Baryshnikov,Mimi Rogers, and Bridget Fonda

@Raggedyaggie,
Thanks again, Raggedy for the info and the great montage of notables.

I think Robby Benson was born today, but the web sometimes gives misinformation. I'm not even certain that I played the right Bobby Benson song. Anyone surprised?

Let's try another one, then we'll listen to Pink Floyd, folks.

@yitwail,
honu, Welcome back. Loved that dance song, M.D. Hmmm. Wish I could dance with Sidney Poitier.

My palm trees had to get a haircut, and low and behold, a dude named Henry reminded me that I knew him. He was a funny black guy who drank one of my root beers and opened it with his hands. Wow! Once I was reminded that we had met before, I sang this one.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, I tried to find "Dance With Me Henry" by Georgia Gibbs. YouTube is a bit recalcitrant recently.

Funny Porky presentation, Texas and, THAT Charles TurnerIII was fabulous. I even like the scat part. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderly did that one as well.

On Frank Apisa's "Abuzz" daze, who should appear but Debacle with Matt Monroe. What a voice that guy had. Let's listen to the singing bus driver.

@edgarblythe,
Funny, edgar. I did like that clip, however.

James Cromwell was a fabulous actor. I had forgotten that he did Babe (an answer to your Porky Pig). My favorite role of his was in L.A. Confidential, however. He also did Star Trek, The First Contact.

Well, here's one that everyone loves. Mozart:

Pirate Radio
John Hiatt

Well, those electric sheep to the valley they keep walkin
On the radio waves selling tennis shoes and beer
It induces sleep when that DJ starts his squawkin'
I'm lookin' for one song to save me on this midnight clear

So how far do we have to go to hear that Pirate Radio?
One song that could steal our hearts
Before they turn into silver and gold
Well I'm drivin' my car real slow and my baby wants to know
When we gonna hear our song on that Pirate Radio?

One star in the sky so I named it Ottis Redding
Or maybe Marvin Gaye lookin' for his Tammi Turell
There ain't no mountain high enough to stop this wedding
Rollin' out of Memphis to Detroit I can hear those bells

So how far do we have to go to hear that Pirate Radio?
One song that could steal our hearts
Before they turn into silver and gold
Well I'm drivin' my care real slow and my baby wants to know
When we gonna hear our song on that Pirate Radio?

Well, we've been drivin' all night, ever since we were teenagers,
Up to that border town where the outlaw station air waves
Where the DJ's outta sight and his heart is so courageous
And he loves every song that he's puttin' on for the free and brave

So how far do we have to go to hear that Pirate Radio?
One song that could steal our hearts
Before they turn into silver and gold
Well I'm drivin' my care real slow and my baby wants to know
When we gonna hear our song on that Pirate Radio?

@djjd62,
Those bloody Brits. Harumph. Great viewing, dj. Where did edgar go? I figured he would want to know about the memorial.

Speaking of taxes, I got my stuff in the mail today from the IRS. Talking about pirates, y'all. Them Canucks don't have to pay taxes, right? Razz

To honor the pirates, here's a great one from Penzance.

@Letty,
our government just presented the budget today, they expect to spend more money than we have to get us through this economic crisis, so we'll be paying our fair share of taxes for quite some time Crying or Very sad
