@Montana,
Montana, Welcome back. Loved that Sheryl Crow song. Ah, soaking up the sun. We need more of that here, gal. Thanks so much.

What a day this has been. Went to get my oil changed and met the most fascinating people. One from Costa Rica and he explained about the volcanes there; another from Cambodia. Love chatting with folks from places outside America.

Here are some great things that I found today. First, this slide show, y'all.

http://festival.sundance.org/2009

After finding the one about Desi Arnaz, Jr. I ran across a great one from Dad.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbL0byd8Gu4

Finally, and I know you'll be happy to hear this, a newcomer to me who is Jose Manuel Villaflor. Not certain that this is the same one, but hey. I like it.

So, with this plethora of info, I only have one thought, and that is concern for out Raggedy. Hope she is all right.

Goodnight, my friends

From Letty with love

I have not been listening to music much today. My hearing, while it is improving, has not reached such a level that I can hear a telephone ring. I searched the news for good topics, but found nothing novel enough to present for this evening.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, I am really sorry to hear that you're having problems, buddy. With your love for music, that must be difficult.

Hmmm, Wonder where bullwinkle and the flying squirrel be?

Here are a couple of early morning songs, folks.

First, today is Ray Anthony's birthday and the man is still alive. He is eighty seven today.

Love this song, and I had no idea that he played it.

Seems that U2 has a new single. So, we'll do this one as well, y'all.

@edgarblythe,
Love that song, edgar. I did not know that Celine Dion did it, however.

Well, all, today is Paul Stanley's birthday, and since he is a member of Kiss, let's hear one from the group. This one isn't bad at all, y'all.

@Raggedyaggie,
Glad all is well with you, dear puppy. It is COLD here as well. Thanks for the quartet of notables, gal, and the info is always welcome.

If I were the martians, I would have gotten the hell out of the way of Slim. Love that still.

A couple of salutes today.

First, Larry King and George Burns

Then the Renegade theme in which Lorenzo was a star.

I recall Ray Anthony from many radio programs of the Golden Age of Radio, and then of course the Dragnet and Peter Gunn themes (H Mancini wrote Peter Gunn, but the show always began with Ray's music, and Ray had the hit recording. Mancini got the album sales.). Always good for a listen.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, The things that amazed me about George Burns, is that he was dyslexic; that he only had a fourth grade education, and finally that he lived to be 100 in spite of that big cigar he was always smoking.

Loved that song by him, Texas, and I don't think that I'd want to be eighteen again.

The things that I don't know are legion, folks. Didn't have a clue about Ray Anthony's successes. Just found one that I did know.

Here's a surprise. Ian Hill of Judas Priest does one that is quite different from the original.

@urs53,
urs, you get to see all the good stuff. Just listened to Joan Baez sing that same song, gal. It was written to Bob Dylan.

Here's a funny for the day to cheer us all up.

There were five houses of religion in a small Texas town:
The Presbyterian Church, the Baptist Church , the Methodist Church , the Catholic Church and the Jewish Synagogue .
Each church and Synagogue was overrun with pesky squirrels.
One day, the Presbyterian Church called a meeting to decide what to do about the squirrels. After much prayer and consideration they determined that the squirrels were predestined to be there and they shouldn't interfere with God's divine will..
In The BAPTIST CHURCH the squirrels had taken up habitation in the baptistery. The deacons met and decided to put a cover on the baptistery and drown the squirrels in it. The squirrels escaped somehow and there were twice as many there the next week
The Methodist Church got together and decided that they were not in a position to harm any of God's creation. So, they humanely trapped the Squirrels and set them free a few miles outside of town. Three days later, the squirrels were back.
But -- The Catholic Church came up with the best and most effective solution. They baptized the squirrels and registered them as members of the church. Now they only see them on Christmas , Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday and Easter.
Not much was heard about the Jewish Synagogue ,
but they took one squirrel and had a short service with him called circumcision and they haven't seen a squirrel on the property since.

Back later with another tribute, y'all.

My goodness, Patricia Neal is still alive. What a lady, y'all. I recall her in The Day the Earth Stood Still, and now it's been remade starring Keanu Reeves.

Here's a tribute to another celebrity, Skeet Ulrich

Here is Barbra Striesand with a Laura Nyro song. Good evening. Gettin' cold out there. I just came from my mother in law's in The Woodlands. She has become obsessed with her air condition/heating. The slightest sound from it sets her off, or she puts the settings wrong. I love helping her, but, geez, it's a forty five minute drive through very thick traffic. Just now, her space heater was on. She kept hearing its fan run and assumed there was a problem with the A/C. Smile

Sony Music Entertainment may be able to claim the rights in Germany to some of Bob Dylan’s most famous songs, including “Blowin’ in the Wind,” the European Union’s highest court said.

The EU Court of Justice in Luxembourg said copyrighted works are protected under EU law when the song or book was registered in at least one member-state. Sony Music sought to block German music producer Falcon Neue Medien Vertrieb AG from selling albums with Dylan songs released in the U.S. in 1964 and 1965.

Falcon had won a German case arguing that Sony Music, owner of the Dylan song rights, had no rights to those songs because until 1966 Germany didn’t have a relevant copyright law. The Dylan tunes in dispute come from the three albums, “The Times They Are A-Changin’,” “Highway 61 Revisited” and “Bringing It All Back Home.”

A German court asked the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg whether Sony Music can claim rights under a 2006 EU law that gives copyright protection to songs in the 27 EU nations as long as they were protected in one of the countries on July 1, 1995. Sony argued this was the case, because at the time, U.K. law recognized its U.S. rights to the pre-1966 Dylan songs.

The Dylan songs at issue are among the most widely known in the catalog owned by Sony BMG, which is now known as Sony Music Entertainment after Sony Corp. bought out Bertelsmann AG’s 50 percent stake in the joint venture last year. Sony Music, the recording company of Alicia Keys, owns the Arista and Columbia record labels.

@edgarblythe,
Good morning, WA2K radio. We need to smile more, edgar. Times are tough right now.

Guess whose birthday is today, and this is one of my favorite songs, folks.

Here he is in all his Spanish glory, followed by the lyrics. (a tribute to Vera Lynn)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyoCvaUZE68

Yours till the stars lose their glory
Yours till the birds fail to sing
Yours to the end of life's story
This pledge to you, dear, I bring

Yours in the grey of December
Here, or on far distant shores
I've never loved anyone the way I love you
How could I, when I was born to be just yours

This night has music, the sweetest music
It echoes somewhere within my heart
I hold you near me, so, darling, hear me
I have a message I must impart

Yours till the stars lose their glory,
Yours till the birds fail to sing
Yours to the end of life's story
This pledge to you, dear, I bring

Yours in the grey of December
Here, or on far distant shores
I've never loved anyone the way I love you
How could I when I was born to be just yours
Just yours
When I was born to be just yours
