dj, that Jamaican music is fabulous. Especially like "Shame and Scandal in the Family"

Rock, Hee hee. Funny! Wonder if he beat the system? I had forgotten that flash. Loved it.

How about a little more of the reggae, y'all.

@Letty,
Letty I have been getting lost on this new site and can't find anything. I have been watching an old British sitcom "Butterflies" the Dolly Parton song "Love is like a butterfly" is the theme song!

@Victor Murphy,
Ah, Victor. We all understand the confusion. Don't know that British sitcom, but your butterflies remind me of this one, and what a surprise to find that the entire thing was inspired by Charles Dickens.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHHbSsdc0gk&feature=related

Butterflies Are Free is a play by Leonard Gershe.
Loosely based on the life of attorney Harold Krents, the plot revolves around a Manhattan blind man whose controlling mother disapproves of his relationship with a free-spirited hippie. The title was inspired by a passage in Charles Dickens' Bleak House: "I only ask to be free. The butterflies are free. Mankind will surely not deny to Harold Skimpole what it concedes to the butterflies."
After twelve previews, the Broadway production, directed by Milton Katselas, opened on October 21, 1969 at the Booth Theatre, where it ran for 1128 performances. The cast included Keir Dullea, Blythe Danner, and Eileen Heckart, who later in the run was replaced by Gloria Swanson. Stephen Schwartz composed the title song.

and with that song and info, I think I shall say goodnight.

as always,

From Letty with love

@Victor Murphy,
Victor, I recall it because it was done locally by a little theatre group in Virginia. Needless to say, it caused a stir.

Funny, folks, Brad Pitt says he was faithful to Jennifer Aniston. What great news. Rolling Eyes

Still recall this one by Diana Krall.

@Izzie,
Izzie, Loved the "No Other Way". Thanks, gal, and I just found out that today is David Bowie's birthday. Ziggy Stardust is one of my favorites. Thanks, hun. Believe it or not, I just turned up the heat in my wee studio, but the sky is blue and clear.

Also found out that "The King's" birthday is today, and I truly like this one by him. (I call Elvis the king because of Don Mclean' reference to him)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFSfdL5lPoY

Here is my favorite quote for today, y'all.

"A customer is the most important
visitor of our premises.

He is not dependent on us -
we are dependent on him.

He is not an interruption on our work -
he is the purpose of it.

He is not an outsider on our business -
he is a part of it.

We are not doing him a favour
by serving him -

He is doing us a favour by giving us
an opportunity to do so."

-Mahatma Gandhi

Izzie, you may not know Prince Gautam, but those of us who do feared for him during the carnage in India. I heard from him and here is his message:

Many thanks for yr mail - while we did have some hairy moments (lots of my extended family and friends are in and around the same area as the terrorist attack), we are all okay.

Sorry abt keeping away from A2K for a while now - I will make an appearence soon !!

Give my love to all.

@Raggedyaggie,
Thanks again, puppy, for the great info and famous faces.

My word, "The Artful Doger" Fagin. Here's a clip from Oliver Twist. Charles Dickens has inspired so many great works of art including Butterflys Are Free.

and as an added and sad advent, y'all, Patrick Swayze has pancreatic cancer.

@edgarblythe,
Well, edgar, I searched for the language that Gentleman Jim did that lovely song in and it may be Afrikaner. Not certain, however. What a voice he had. Thanks, Texas.

Time for me to say goodnight and I love this song by Bill Withers.

@edgarblythe,
My word, edgar, it seems that everyone has done that song from Midnight Cowboy. Thanks, Texas.

Well, folks, I'm up early 'cause I watched Cold Case. Strange, there are two versions of that TV show. One is Cold Case Files based on real events, and the other a fictionalized version.

How about a couple of great songs this morning. One as a tribute to Bob Denver, whose birthday is today, and the other a song from Cold Case.

First, the funny from Bob, y'all.

Now, Tim McGraw.

Good morning from beautiful downtown Tomball. A lifesize statue of namesake, Thomas Ball, now rests at the old train station. The only other lifesize figures in this burg are the two of the Blues Brothers on top of an awning at a local kids hangout. It's in the sixties here and will go up to about seventy seven. Not bad for a January.

Good morning WA2K. I wouldn't mind at all if Edgar sent some of his town's weather my way.

I mentioned The Mentalist, Letty, because you said earlier that you were hoping it would be on in February. I like Simon Baker. I used to watch him play a Pittsburgh lawyer on "The Guardian" (2001).

Some January 9 birthdays:

1890 - Karel Čapek, Czech writer (Karel introduced and made popular the frequently used international word robot, which first appeared in his play R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots) in 1921. Karel credited his brother, Josef Čapek, as the true inventor of the word robot; 1898 - Vilma Bánky, Hungarian actress (d. 1991) ; 1898 - Gracie Fields, English vaudeville performer (d. 1979) ; 1901 - Chic Young, American cartoonist (Blondie)(d. 1973); 1908 - Simone de Beauvoir, French author (d. 1986); 1913 - Richard Nixon, 37th President of the United States (d. 1994) ; 1914 - Gypsy Rose Lee (or 1911), American burlesque entertainer (d. 1970) ; 1915 - Fernando Lamas, Argentine actor (d. 1982) ;1925 - Lee Van Cleef, American actor (d. 1989) ; 1928 - Judith Krantz, American author ; 1935 - Bob Denver, American actor (d. 2005) ; 1941 - Joan Baez, American singer and activist ; and 1951 - Crystal Gayle, American singer

Because I love all of Joan's recordings and find it very difficult to pick just one to play, I'll play this more recent one again. This is at the Kennedy Center Awards honoring Pete Seeger.

Thanks for the great info and famous faces, PA. Also loved Joan's vanishing flowers song.

I have always liked Lee Van Cleef. I guess most folks recall him in The Good The Bad and The Ugly, but I seem to remember that he did a Ninja bit as well.
