Walter, that is a lovely Italian song. (I know because I looked it up) However, I did get enough to understand that the mystery of love has to do with the singing of the sea and the moon and someone special.

Is it any wonder, listeners, that the sirens were considered so seductive even to the point of certain death?

Now for a news item:

Princess Caroline's Husband Hospitalized

Published: 4/8/05

MONACO (AP) - The prince of Hanover, the sometimes rowdy husband of Monaco's Princess Caroline, is hospitalized in serious condition with an acute pancreas problem, the royal palace said Friday.

Prince Ernst August of Hanover, 51, was taken to intensive care at Monaco's Princess Grace Hospital on Tuesday, his office said in a statement.

The statement did not make clear whether the prince remained in intensive care Friday but said he was "under continuous surveillance." Palace officials said he remains hospitalized.

"His state of health is serious and requires permanent medical care," the statement said.

Tests, X-rays and scans have been carried out to determine the extent of his "acute pancreatic disorder," it added.

Unfortunate, listeners, as the prince of Monaco recently died.

Andy, Please post a song in Latvian. Whether or no you have the diacritical marks won't hurt. Just seeing and even hearing how things go, is sufficient.

Here in Florida, a 40% solar eclipse is in progress.

All For the Love of a Girl - Johnny Horton

Well, today I'm so weary.
Today I'm so blue.
Sad and broken hearted,
And it's all because of you.
Life was so sweet dear,
Life was a song.
Now you've gone and left me,
Oh, where do I belong?

And it's all for the love of a dear little girl.
All for the love that sets your heart in a whirl.
I'm a man who'd give his life,
And the joys of this world,
All for the love of a girl.

And it's all for the love of a dear little girl.
All for the love that sets your heart in a whirl.
I'm a man who'd give his life,
And the joys of this world,
All for the love of a girl.

Battle of New Orleans - Johnny Horton

In 1814 we took a little trip
along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip.
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans
and we caught the bloody British in the town of New Orleans.

*Chorus*
We fired our guns and the British kept on comin'
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago.
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

We looked down the river and we've seen the british come
and there must have been a hunnerd of 'em beatin on the drum.
They stepped so high and they made their bugles ring
but we stood behind our cotton bales 'n' didn't say a thing.

Chorus

Ol' Hickory said we could take 'em by surprise
if we didn't fire our muskets 'till we looked 'em in the eyes.
We held our fire 'till we seed their faces well
then we opened up the squirrel guns and really gave em....
well we

Chorus

Well they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles
and they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go.
they ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

We fired our cannon 'till the barrel melted down
so we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round.
We filled his head with cannonballs, powered his behind
and when we touched the powder off the gator lost his mind.

Chorus

Yeah they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles
and they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go.
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
A down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

Springtime in Alaska - Johnny Horton

I mushed from Point Barrow through a blizzard of snow
Been out prospectin' for two years or so
Pulled into Fairbanks, the city was a-boom
So I took a little stroll to the Red Dog Sea-loon

As I walked in the door, the music was clear
The purtiest voice I had heard in two years
The song she was singin' made a man's blood run cold
When it's Springtime in Alaska, it's forty below
(When it's Springtime in Alaska, it's forty below)

It was redheaded Lil who was singin' so sweet
I reached down and took the snow packs off my feet
I reached for the gal who was singin' the tune
We did the Eskeemo Hop all around the sea-loon

With a Caribou Crawl and a Grizzly Bear Hug
We did our dance on a Kodiak rug
The song she kept singin' made a man's blood run cold
When it's Springtime in Alaska, it's forty below

I was as innocent as I could be
I didn't know Lil was Big Ed's wife-to-be
He took out his knife and he gave it a throw
When it's Springtime in Alaska, I'll be six feet below
(When it's Springtime in Alaska, he'll be six feet below)

Ah Alaska, where the mosquitoes are like bombers and idiots go to shot wolves from airplanes. At least they made it against the law to shoot polar bears from planes.

My stepfather used to work there--he thought it was one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Wow! edgar. This is Johnny Horton night.

*Way up north,way up north
North to Alaska
They go north,to Russia's home
North to Alaska
They go north,to Russia's home

Big Sam left Seattle in the year of ninety two
With George Pratt, his partner and brother Billy too
They crossed the Yukon River
And found the bonanza gold
Below that old white mountain
Just a little southeast of Nome

Sam crossed the majestic mountains
To the valleys far below
He talked to his team of huskies
As he mushed 'em through the snow
With the northern lights a-running wild
In the land of the midnight sun
Yes,Sam McCord was a mighty man
In the year of 1901

**Where the river is winding
Big nuggets they're finding
North to Alaska
They go north,to Russia's home

(Repeat *)

George turned to Sam with his gold in his hand
Said, Sam you're a-lookin'at a lonely, lonely man
I'd trade all the gold that's buried in this land
For one small band of gold a placed
On sweet little Ginnies hand

Cause a man needs a woman to love him all the time
Remember, Sam, a true love is so hard to find
I'd build for my Ginnie a honeymoon home
Below that old white mountain
Just a little southeast of Nome

And thinking of Alaska, listeners, I think I'll treat that as a WARM goodnight.

South to Daytona, go south the heat is on. Razz

From John Denver:

When I was a child and I lived in the city
I dreamed of Alaska so far away
And I dreamed I was flying over mountains and glasciers
Somehow I knew that I'd live there one day

Well it took me some growin' and a fair bit of schoolin'
And a little bit of trouble to get on the move
And I felt like loser but I turned out the winner
When I came to Alaska the land that I love

Here's to Alaska here's to the people
Here's to the wild and heres to the free
Here's to my life in a chosen country
Here's to Alaska and me

I was born in a cabin on little Mulchatna

Raised in hard times but I had a good life
From the first time I flew with my father a singin'
I knew that I'd wind up a bush pilots wife

We sleep near the sound of a slow running river
And wake up most mornings to a drizzling rain
And we face every day like the first or the last one
With nothing to lose and heaven to gain

Here's to Alaska here's to the people
Here's to the wild and heres to the free
Here's to my life in a chosen country
Here's to Alaska and me

Oh for a fire on a cold winters night
And once more to gaze at the great Northernlights
For all of the beauty my children will see
Heres to Alaska and me

Here's to Alaska here's to the people
Here's to the wild and heres to the free
Here's to my life in a chosen country
Here's to Alaska and me

I've always wanted to see Alaska. When I was a sailor, we were the lone destroyer escort of the Enterprise, from the Philipines to the Aleutian Islands. We stopped for fuel at Dutch Harbor. There were just six or seven persons on the island, but a whole little town was there. We had to remain aboard ship, but that tantalizing glimpse made me want to return. I searched Dutch Harbor last year and discovered that since 1964 they have built a resort there.

Whispering Pines - Johnny Horton

woooo woooo woooo

The snowflakes fall as winter comes and time just seems to fly
Is it the lonely missing me that make me want to cry.
My heart is sad, like a morning dove, thats lost its mate in flight.
Hearing the cooing of his lonely heart, thought the stillness of the night

Wispering Pines, Wispering Pines, tell me is it so
Wispering Pines, Wispering Pines, you are the one who knows
My darling is gone, oh she's gone and I need your sympthy
Wispering Pines send my baby back to me.

See that squirel up in the tree, his mate there on the ground
Hear their baking call of love, for the happy nest they found
Is my love, still my love, oh this I've go to know
Send a message by the wind, because I love her so.

Wispering Pines, Wispering Pines, tell me is it so
Wispering Pines, Wispering Pines, you are the one who knows
My darling is gone, oh she's gone and I need your sympthy
Wispering Pines send my baby back to me.

Good morning listeners. Everyone was late last night except for me. I sang seven songs rather than the usual three or four. I hate being the only singer though. I was really relieved when other singers started trickling in. My songs from last night.

Can't Help Falling in Love Elvis presley
My Way Frank Sinatra
He'll Have to Go Jim Reeves
After the Loving Englebert Humperdinck
The Wonder of You Elvis Presley
Song Sung Blue Neil Diamond
You Are so Beautiful Joe Cocker

Why don't we listen to Jim Reeves?

HE'LL HAVE TO GO

Jim Reeves

Put your sweet lips a little closer to the phone
Let's pretend that we're together all alone
I'll tell the man to turn the juke box way down low
And you can tell your friend there with you he'll have to go

Whisper to me tell me do you love me true
Or is he holding you the way I do
Though love is blind make up your mind I've got to know
Should I hang up or will you tell him he'll have to go

You can't say the words I want to hear
While you're with another man
Do you want me answer yes or no
Darling I will understand

Put your sweet lips a little closer to the phone
Let's pretend that we're together all alone
I'll tell the man to turn the juke box way down low
And you can tell your friend there with you he'll have to go

I don't want to annoy you with our weather report (snow, cold, rainy, windy), but as you know: there is no bad eather, only wrong clothing:

What shall I write?
What can I say?
How can I tell you how much I miss you?

The weather here has been as nice as it can be
Althought it doesn't really matter much to me
For all the fun I'll have while you're so far away
It might as well rain until September

I don't need sunny skies for thing I like to do
'Cause I stay home the whole day long and think of you
As far as I'm concerned each day's a rainy day
So It might as well rain until September

My friends look forward to their picnics on the beach
Yes everybody loves the summertime
But you know darling while your arms are out of reach
The summer isn't any friend of mine

It doesn't matter whethee skies are grey or blue
It's raining in my heart 'cause I can't be with you
I'm only living for the day you're home to stay
So It might as well rain until September
September, September, oh
It might as well rain until September

Good morning, WA2K radio and fans.

edgar took us off the air last night with Alaska via Johnny Horton, and Bob awakened us with his cameo of his Karaoke and Gentleman Jim Reeves. Fantastic songs, Bob, especially the one that you let us hear this AM.

Francis, I am looking forward to your Dutch Harbor excursion.

Walter, I found the lyrics to that song intriguing, and just as a Rainy Night in Georgia seems that's it's raining all over the world, so did the line, "..it might as well rain until September...."

Listeners, last night I watched the movie, Ray, and it was marvelous. I was a bit concerned when Tony of the video store told me that it was two and one half hours long, but the time sailed right on by as I really got into Jamie Foxx's performance and Ray's music, especially this song:

Artist: Ray Charles Lyrics
Song: What'd I Say Lyrics

Hey mama, don't you treat me wrong
Come and love your daddy all night long
All right now, hey hey, all right
See the girl with the diamond ring
She knows how to shake that thing
All right now now now, hey hey, hey hey
Tell your mama, tell your pa
I'm gonna send you back to Arkansas
Oh yes, ma'm, you don't do right, don't do right
Aw, play it boy
When you see me in misery
Come on baby, see about me
Now yeah, all right, all right, aw play it, boy
When you see me in misery
Come on baby, see about me
Now yeah, hey hey, all right
See the girl with the red dress on
She can do the Birdland all night long

Yeah yeah, what'd I say, all right
Well, tell me what'd I say, yeah
Tell me what'd I say right now
Tell me what'd I say
Tell me what'd I say right now
Tell me what'd I say
Tell me what'd I say yeah

I actually danced around to Ray's "get down" song.

Incidentally, listeners, if you find this review appearing twice, blame it on the lack of coffee. Very Happy

Good morning Letty. I've now had my breakfast and coffee so I'm back to my near human form. The Jim Reeves song was a pleasant surprise. Sean who runs the karaoke had brought some karaoke cd's in and that happened to be on one of them. It's not in his book so that's not an option usually. It's a very easy song to sing unlike something like Neil Diamond's Girl you'll be a woman soon which has three different tempos. Joe Cocker's For You are Beautiful was my first time singing it and came out really well. All in all a propitious evening.

Bob, What'd I Say is easy to sing, but ballads are more difficult. Can't cheat on 'em. <smile>

George and Francis, totally breath taking vistas. I looked in awe at Satt's volcano and your Dutch Harbor. What a tour! Above and below the ground is a virtual paradox, listeners, but both are awesome.

Imagine, if you will, the look of cold clear water encased in green spits of land with a curve of the sea on the horizon. Then, think of a mountain side with mists of white and tall trees that emerge in pointed spires through the fog of Alaska.

The picture of Satt's volcano, looks so peaceful and harmless that one doesn't think of the lava bubbling beneath. Rather like the world, folks.

The nurse came to the elderly lady for the first time.

"Have some nuts", the lady said and pointed to a bowl on the table, "I don't much care for them myself".

The nurse thanked her and ate the nuts.

Next week the same thing happened, and then the week after that. The nurse started feeling bad about the lady putting nuts on the table just for her.

This went on for a few months until the nurse finally asked the lady why she put nuts on the table when she didn't eat them herself.

"Oh, I don't like the nuts", was the cheerful reply, "but I love the chocolate coating."
