Good evening to all! Here's Reyn's story for today:

Woman sues hospital that declared her dead

VALPARAISO, Ind., Aug. 5 (UPI) -- An Indiana woman suing a hospital says she is owed damages for the trouble she was caused when doctors pronounced a woman with the same name dead last winter.

Diane Wright, 67, Jackson Township, contends Porter Hospital caused her to lose her Social Security and health insurance after they allegedly notified various agencies that she had died, the Post-Tribune of Northwest Indiana reported Tuesday.

In addition, the federal government sent a claim to Wright's husband demanding repayment of nearly $3,000 in Social Security benefits paid to his "late" wife.

The departed was actually another Diane Wright, who died in January at Porter.

The attorney representing the still-living Diane Wright told the Post-Tribune of Northwest Indiana that the hospital failed to correct the error for months.

"This is not one of those 'I spilled coffee in my lap at McDonald's (lawsuits),'" said lawyer Thomas Hillers, who added "They just want it to be made right."

Miss Letty, I rarely dupe myself, but Ed led me to this, and I thought you might like it to arise to, although, it is sad in it's own way.

@Seed,
Good morning, WA2K radio audience.

Reyn, Thanks for that alarming bit of news, buddy. It pays to be paranoid often. Hope things are resolved in favor of the "living dead".

Seed, you are so right, honey. That Don McLean piece I have never heard, and it is indeed lovely. I also like Carol King's Tapestry.

Thanks, RH. You are right. It was nice to hear Don's gentle guitar upon awakening. What a talent.

Well, y'all, today is Sean Connery's birthday, and I don't believe that there will ever be a James Bond quite like him.

Happy Birthday to our Seed and to Sean. Here is a montage for the both of you.

@Reyn,
This sort of thing happens more often than it should - the unresponsiveness, once the error is known. I don't believe people are so dumb they can't see the problem. For some reason, they make a minimum effort, then fail to follow through. Out of sight, out of mind -

@firefly,
That was a great song, firefly, and Jerry's voice was truly good. I recall that song, and thank you.

Well, folks, we said Happy Birthday to Seed via Mickey Mouse, now how about one from a monkey.

Hmm. Speaking of crooners, that reminds me of Swinging on a Star. Off to find that melody.

Good morning! Here's a great little story! Wink

Police: Big nose foiled suspect's disguise

NEW YORK, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- New York police said a bank robbery suspect's cross-dressing disguise wasn't enough to hide his distinctive nose from investigators.

http://www.sillyfarm.com/12Costumes/woochie/cinema_largest_nose.gif

Police said Samuel Manoharan, 31, is suspected of robbing five banks in New York's Manhattan and Brooklyn boroughs while dressed in a wig, makeup and women's clothing, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

However, officers said a teller took down his license plate number after one of the robberies and police who arrived at his home said they immediately recognized him from his facial features.

"He has very distinguishable features -- a very big nose. His wig couldn't cover his nose," one police source said.

Prosecutors said Manoharan was charged with grand larceny and robbery for a June 28 robbery in Manhattan. They said charges are pending for the other incidents.

The suspect was being held by police in lieu of $30,000 bail.

@Reyn,
My goodness, Reyn. That is one reason that a crook should have his nose bobbed. Razz (euphemism for rhinoplasty)

Where in the world is Cyrano?

Speaking of "noses". I hope soccer George gets this one. Just played it in RH's music cafe.

Since you mentioned it, Letty, here it is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXMQ0XEIG0Y&feature=related Very Happy

Mason Williams is 70 years old today. He wrote the Smothers Brothers Theme (anyone remember them? ) was a regular on Glenn Campbell's show among others and had a huge hit with Classical Gas. I loved his recording of "It's A Saturday's Night at the World, but can't find it on Youtube. Here he is performing two years ago:

@edgarblythe,
To Raggedy: I love the middle part of that song, Classical Gas, but I hate to say that I don't recall Mason on The Smothers Brothers. Hey, pup. You going my Way?

To edgar: I used that song to demonstrate the fact that the X in the alphabet was always silent except in "X-Ray" Incidentally Brazil is a great samba, Texas.

Searched out The Smothers Brothers and came across this, folks.

Here's an interesting tidbit that listener's may find interesting:

Study: 'Six degrees of separation' a fact

WASHINGTON, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- The old saw about everyone on the planet being "six degrees of separation" away from anyone else may be a scientific fact, U.S. researchers say.

Using billions of text messages as raw data, Microsoft Corp. researchers have reconstructed social patterns that indicate any two people on average are distanced by 6.6 degrees of separation, meaning that they could be linked by a string of seven or fewer acquaintances, The Washington Post reported Saturday.

The newspaper said researchers examined the addresses of 30 billion text messages made by 180 million people around the world, stripped of their actual text or names. They found that the average length of social distance between the texters was 6.6 steps, and that 78 percent of the pairs could be connected in seven hops or less, the newspaper said.

The Microsoft scientists said the research might have applications for political campaigns, charity efforts, natural disaster relief and searches for missing persons, the Post said.
