I want to dedicate this song to our big island man. No particular reason, but I often think we tend to overlook the flute as a great contribution to jazz as well as classical. Also, Jethro Tull (Ian Anderson) sends us a message here through the beauty of animals and the admonition that they are STILL wild. Too often we tend to forget that in our love for them.

We're still bungling in the jungle, methinks

animal handler Roy Horn can testify to that, i imagine. incidentally, Siegfried & Roy return to stage next Feb. i read.

thanks for the song, PD. i also think it applies another way, that humankind isn't as "civilized" as it likes to think.

I agree, M.D. Did you notice the allusion to Genesis and the creation? Tull was more creative than I thought.

Well, inspired by firefly's Connie Francis, I also saw a reference to The Lettermen. You might be surprised at this, honu, but the one that you and JM like, is done better by Nat. They do some pop stuff, too.

Letty, Connie Stevens was also married to Eddie Fisher at one point (after his marriage to Elizabeth Taylor), and she is the mother of actress Joely Fisher. We can see Joely while we listen to Michael Buble.

Well, we might as well hear from the rest of the family. So, here's Eddie singing a song that was a big hit for him.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_hF9pmG0Uk

And, since I don't recall hearing anything by him in a veddy long time, let's listen to another one by Eddie. He was a top teen idol in the 1950's. He has a birthday on the 10th, so we can celebrate it a little early.

A young Marilyn Horne did the singing for Dandridge in Carmen Jones, but that voice never sounded like Horne to me. probably because I am used to Horne as a mezzo-soprano. I saw Horne in Carmen at the Metropolitan Opera and, at that later point in her career, her voice was quite different from Carmen Jones and much, much better--she was a marvelous Carmen.

Some Ramsey Lewis seems right just about now.

Poor Elizabeth Taylor. She was too beautiful.

Thanks, firefly. No, I didn't know much about Eddie's love life after E.T., but I do remember Oh, My PaPa. Mrs. hbg likes that song.

E.F.'s voice is so much better than I recall. Don't much care for Cindy, oh Cindy, but then. I'm not supposed to. Razz I really like Michael Buble as well.

Oops, missed honu's announcement about Siegfried and Roy returning. That's a surprise.

Here's one by Eddie that I think is grand, folks. Played it before here, but it's worth a replay. Besides, I love classic coke in glass bottles. <smile>

My word, folks, edgar is home from work, but I don't hear him whistling.

Will comment on your contribution in just a moment, Texas

This is what Marilyn Horne sounded like doing Carmen when I saw her perform at the Met. It is a much deeper, richer voice than the one in Carmen Jones.

Belafonte's singing in Carmen Jones was dubbed by LeVern Hutcherson. In fact, I think all of the singing voices were dubbed, including Diahann Carroll, except for Olga James, who did her own singing.

edgar, Thanks for the Carmen Jones, clip. I checked out Dorothy Dandridge and found that she died of an overdose at forty two. Poor woman. Talk about easy prey for unscrupulous people.

firefly, I don't know Marilyn Horne, but you're right. She has a deep rich voice. I got a kick out of The Ramsey Lewis trio, 'cause all this time I though the song was, "Hang on Snoopy, Snoopy Hang on". They were great, however. My kind of jazz.

My Irish friend, Al was in the construction business, and one of the workers told him that the man who was buying the house wanted a bizet in the bathroom. He, of course, pronounced the "t".

Here's the aria from "Bidet's" Carmen that I like.

honu, don't you know that Ian didn't have an idle mind, ergo his Bungle in the Jungle was safe.

My mind hasn't been idle either, so if I have made a goof, the devil didn't make me do it.

Me neither, firefly. Incidentally, gal. I love your Esther and her water ballet; the clip with Ricardo was great as well. I recall him doing Fantasy Island, but little of the episodes. Another memory, folks.

"Boss, de plane, de plane."

Amazing that they are both alive and not idle. UhOh. There we go again with a reference to "An idle mind is the devil's workshop."

Let's listen to the theme from Fantasy Island.

Sheeze. We could do without those special effects at the end.

Nah, honu. It's folks like pan that makes men's minds go bad.(that green face matches your avatar. Love it!)

We gotta get those pipes away from Ian.

Back later, y'all, when Mr. Norton is finished debugging the studio.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I'm going to let Bill do it for me. This was his last song as he knew he way dying.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgRFyQR16pQ

You and the night and the music
Fill me with flaming desire
Setting my being completely on fire
You and the night and the music
Thrill me but will we be one
After the night and the music are done

Until the pale light of dawn and in daylight
Hearts will be throbbing guitars
Morning will come without warning and take away the stars
If we must live for the moment
Love 'til the moment is through
After the night and the music die
Will I have you?

Until the pale light of dawn and in daylight
Hearts will be throbbing guitars
Morning will come without warning and take away the stars
If we must live for the moment
Love 'til the moment is through
After the night and the music die
Will I have you?

Thank you all for the wonderful music.

From Letty with love

Good morning, WA2K radio audience.

edgar, thanks for the peek inside a living cartoon. What a couple of beautiful people; too beautiful, but that was at the time that every woman was a Marilyn Monroe clone and every man a tall, dark and handsome stereotype.

Here's a song that I had forgotten about, y'all.

Here's a real oldie from the guy who just wanted everyone to be happy. He even mentions fireflies. Very Happy

I remember Ted Lewis doing Me and My Shadow, but I couldn't find it. Here's the one from Grease that I like, folks, and it will be followed by a funny one from Nat and Sammy.
