Thanks, hawkman, for the info on the celeb's, and the moral of your funny story is, " don't mess with women from Harlen." Loved it.

hey, edgar. What would you do if YOU ruled the world. Nice song by Tony. Thanks, Texas.

And, there's that puppy with pictures. Great quartet, PA.

firefly. Don't we wish that sin of telling lies were fully punished? Half the politicians would be behind bars. Razz

Here's a great video that includes Jay North, folks.

So sorry about those who didn't make it.

If I ruled the world, I would make all those guys get over there and all those other guys get over there, and make up with each other. Then I would instruct them to be kind and rewind.

Al Jolson - one of a kind. Many who knew him described him as the world's greatest performer.

Merle Haggard
I love some of his songs, hate others. Regardless, he is a great performer.

edgar, I liked Silver Wings (reminded me of dear Olen), and as you say, don't much care for Merle, but that one was good. Thanks, Texas.

Speaking of "wings", how about this band on the run. (like fox on the run, too)

Breaking news:

Author Alexander Solzhenitsyn dies at 89
By DOUGLAS BIRCH, Associated Press Writer 39 minutes ago

MOSCOW - Alexander Solzhenitsyn, the Nobel Prize-winning author whose books chronicled the horrors of the Soviet gulag system, has died of heart failure, his son said Monday. He was 89.

Stepan Solzhenitsyn told The Associated Press his father died late Sunday, but declined further comment.
Solzhenitsyn's unflinching accounts of torment and survival in the Soviet Union's slave labor camps riveted his countrymen, whose secret history he exposed. They earned him 20 years of bitter exile, but international renown.
And they inspired millions, perhaps, with the knowledge that one person's courage and integrity could, in the end, defeat the totalitarian machinery of an empire.
Beginning with the 1962 short novel "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich," Solzhenitsyn devoted himself to describing what he called the human "meat grinder" that had caught him along with millions of other Soviet citizens: capricious arrests, often for trifling and seemingly absurd reasons, followed by sentences to slave labor camps where cold, starvation and punishing work crushed inmates physically and spiritually.

A Tribute

I did not read his books, but I am aware of their importance. It was a major loss.

Read the book, watched the movie countless times. There was a PBS telling of the story, but I didn't get to see it. I would buy it on DVD if I knew how.

Ok, edgar. This has been a delightful interview although you tend to be a bit terse, Texas.

Time for me to say goodnight, folks, and here is a beautiful poem by James Russell Lowell who wrote it in protest of America's war with Mexico.

This is also for our Noddy who loved the author and his poem, and is a wonderful tribute for our Sunday.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSawv4TPM-Y

The poem:

Once to every man and nation, comes the moment to decide,
In the strife of truth with falsehood, for the good or evil side;
Some great cause, some great decision, offering each the bloom or blight,
And the choice goes by forever, 'twixt that darkness and that light.

Then to side with truth is noble, when we share her wretched crust,
Ere her cause bring fame and profit, and 'tis prosperous to be just;
Then it is the brave man chooses while the coward stands aside,
Till the multitude make virtue of the faith they had denied.

By the light of burning martyrs, Christ, Thy bleeding feet we track,
Toiling up new Calv'ries ever with the cross that turns not back;
New occasions teach new duties, time makes ancient good uncouth,
They must upward still and onward, who would keep abreast of truth.

Though the cause of evil prosper, yet the truth alone is strong;
Though her portion be the scaffold, and upon the throne be wrong;
Yet that scaffold sways the future, and behind the dim unknown,
Standeth God within the shadow, keeping watch above His own.

Goodnight, world,

From Letty with love

Good morning, WA2K radio audience.

edgar, loved that "Bound for Glory" train, and the idea of Elvis having been saluted by that quartet is a wonderful thing, Texas. Thanks.

Ah, there's our big island man back. We used to call him our "telling turtle" until he and JM moved to Hawaii, now it has to be heralding honu.

Thank you for that beautiful jazz rendition, M.D. I knew every jazz song that Johnny Hartman sang so beautifully. I have never heard of him, and now I know why. America missed so much by not having understood the contributions of all ethnic groups. Well, now I know, and I am grateful for him. What a great voice, and it complimented Coltrane's sax.

Today is Robert Downey Jr.'s birthday, and this is one funny video, folks, so let's watch and listen to the quartet which includes Robert.

Good morning. The day opens on uncertainty for us in the Houston/Galveston area. A strong tropical storm, or a weak hurricane, is expected to roar through here this time tomorrow. Much of the day will be spent getting ready, but I will still be online quite a bit in the afternoon and evening.

The video is pretty funny, letty.

edgar, We have been keeping an eye on tropical storm Edouard. Hope that it doesn't bring too much rain and wind to Texas. Let us know, if you can, buddy.

Well, folks, you'll have to forgive me, but here is my telling song again, and I don't think that I have ever heard Ella sing better.
