Hmmm. Let's see if this works, folks.

My word, edgar, I know that song, but when I checked out Peter and Gordon, I had never heard another song by them. Thanks, Texas, for jolting my synapses.

Here's one we all know, folks, and I tried it by a woman named Valadga who had a lovely voice, but her intonation was terrible, so I'm going to stick with Nat.

Whenever I hear this one, I get a bit sad.

We interrupt this program to take a look at an amazing report, of an elephant painting a picture of an elephant, and doing a remarkable job. I don't know of any chimps who have done this well.

Amazing, edgar, and I thought that I'd seen everything when I saw an elephant fly. Razz

Time for me to say goodnight, and I heard from Mr. Lee singing this song, folks. Michael Buble can't touch him.

Hope he comes back to A2K some day.

Goodnight, everyone

Good morning, WA2K.

Lots of famous folks were born on this day, but I think M. C. Hammer deserves a nod. Incidentally, Dutchy is having problems with his computer, so that is why we haven't heard from him.

Breaking news:

Killing Fields' survivor Dith Pran dies

By RICHARD PYLE, Associated Press Writer 20 minutes ago
NEW YORK - Dith Pran, the Cambodian-born journalist whose harrowing tale of enslavement and eventual escape from that country's murderous Khmer Rouge revolutionaries in 1979 became the subject of the award-winning film "The Killing Fields," died Sunday, his former colleague said.

Dith, 65, died at a New Jersey hospital Sunday morning of pancreatic cancer, according to Sydney Schanberg, his former colleague at The New York Times. Dith had been diagnosed almost three months ago.
Dith was working as an interpreter and assistant for Schanberg in Phnom Penh, the Cambodian capital, when the Vietnam War reached its chaotic end in April 1975 and both countries were taken over by Communist forces.

Today we are proud to announce a new title that has been bestowed on our Dutchy.

Cosmic Eagle

And, folks, from Lord Tennyson.

The (Cosmic) Eagle
by Alfred, Lord Tennyson

He clasps the crag with crooked hands;
Close to the sun in lonely lands,
Ring'd with the azure world, he stands.

The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls;
He watches from his mountain walls,
And like a thunderbolt he falls.

And from The Eagles

Dear Letty and edgarblythe thanks you both most sincerely for your kind words and songs. I loved 'How Long' and 'New Kid in town', I certainly feel like the latter with this new title. Smile

I feel the moderators came up with a fabulous name, perpetuating the late 'timberlandko', who was so closely connected with a2k, and full compliments must go to them.

Was overwhelmed by the number of messages and mentions we've got on the threads, to me 100k was only a number, but the folks here had other ideas and made it a very enjoyable day for yours truly, once again proving we're one big family.

Lastly I apologise to you good people for being late in responding to your posts but that was for reasons beyond my control. My computer decided to give up the ghost at the most awkward time, fortunately I was able to get an old one going hence my belated reply. Will be away from the action for the next few days. Laughing

Dutchy, I had no idea that your new title, Cosmic Eagle, was given to you because of Timberlandko. What an honor, and what a great sensitivity the moderators of our forum possess.

We all thank you for your acknowledgement, Aussie.

Well, folks, there is the eagle and then there is the condor. The following song is beautiful, and worth the watch and the listen.

Good Morning WA2K.

Hope I didn't miss too many birthdays yesterday. Had guests and didn't log on to the computer.

Lovely and clever video, Letty. I think I heard either Simon or was it Garfunkel in there for a brief moment?

Lots of notables born on this date. Among the deceased: Spanish painter Francisco Goya; Anna Sewell (Black Beauty); French poet Paul Verlaine; Vincent van Gogh; Irish dramatist Sean O'Casey and singer Frankie Laine

Among the living: Smile

A Happy 86th to Turhan Bey; 78th to John Astin; 71st to Warren Beatty; 65th to Eric Clapton; 51st to Paul Reiser; 44th to Tracy Chapman; and 40th to Celine Dion

Thanks again, Raggedy, for the fabulous montage of notables.

If the lyrics to that lovely melody were in English, that could have been either Paul or Simon. Razz Strange, I know that el Condor melody, but once again, I don't know why I know it.

There's an interesting story behind Goya and the man who wrote the book about him. Suffice it to say, it happened "against all odds".

My favorite from Eric, folks.

i'm a bit late, as usual, but a Steve Miller oldie in honor of Dutchy...

Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin'
Into the future
Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin'
Into the future

I want to fly like an eagle
To the sea
Fly like an eagle
Let my spirit carry me
I want to fly like an eagle
Till I'm free
Oh, Lord, through the revolution

Feed the babies
Who don't have enough to eat
Shoe the children
With no shoes on their feet
House the people
Livin' in the street
Oh, oh, there's a solution

I want to fly like an eagle
To the sea
Fly like an eagle
Let my spirit carry me
I want to fly like an eagle
Till I'm free
Fly through the revolution

Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin'
Into the future
Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin'
Into the future
Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin'
Into the future
Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin'
Into the future

I want to fly like an eagle
To the sea
Fly like an eagle
Let my spirit carry me
I want to fly like an eagle
Till I'm free
Fly through the revolution

Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin'

and can't mention Frankie Laine without this one... Laughing

Rollin', rollin', rollin'.
Rollin', rollin', rollin'.
Rollin', rollin', rollin'.
Rollin', rollin', rollin'.
Rawhide!
Hah! Hah!

Keep rollin', rollin', rollin',
Though the streams are swollen,
Keep them dogies rollin', rawhide.
Through rain and wind and weather,
Hell bent for leather,
Wishin' my gal was by my side.
All the things I'm missin',
Good vittles, love, and kissin',
Are waiting at the end of my ride.

Move 'em out, head 'em up,
Head 'em up, move 'em on.
Move 'em out, head 'em up:
Rawhide.
Cut 'em out, ride 'em in,
Ride 'em in, cut 'em out,
Cut 'em out, ride 'em in:
Rawhide!
Hah! Hah!

Movin', movin', movin',
Though they're disapprovin',
Keep them dogies movin', rawhide.
Don't try to understand 'em,
Just rope an' throw an' brand 'em.
Soon we'll be living high and wide.
My heart's calculatin',
My true love will be waitin':
Waitin' at the end of my ride.

Move 'em out, head 'em up,
Head 'em up, move 'em on.
Move 'em out, head 'em up:
Rawhide.
Cut 'em out, ride 'em in,
Ride 'em in, cut 'em out,
Cut 'em out, ride 'em in:
Rawhide!

(Rollin', rollin', rollin'.)
(Rollin', rollin', rollin'.)
Hah!
(Rollin', rollin', rollin'.)
Hah!
(Rollin', rollin', rollin'.)
Rawhide.
Hah!
Rawhide!

on 2nd thought, maybe this is a better tribute to Dutchy Razz

This generation
Rules the nation
With version

Music happen to be the food of love
Sounds to really make you rub and scrub

I say: Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
It a gonna burn, give me music make me jump and prance
It a go done, give me the music make me rock in the dance

It was a cool and lovely breezy afternoon
(How does it feel when you've got no food ?)
You could feel it 'cause it was the month of June
(How does it feel when you've got no food ?)
So I left my gate and went out for a walk
(How does it feel when you've got no food ?)
As I pass the dreadlocks' camp I heard them say
(How does it feel when you've got no food ?)

Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
It a gonna burn, give me music make me jump and prance
It a go done, give me the music make me rock in the dance

So I stopped to find out what was going on.
(How does it feel when you've got no food ?)
'Cause the spirit of Jah, you know he leads you on
(How does it feel when you've got no food ?)
There was a ring of dreads and a session was there in swing
(How does it feel when you've got no food ?)
You could feel the chill as I seen and heard them say
(How does it feel when you've got no food ?)

Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
It a gonna burn, give me music make me jump and prance
It a go done, give me the music make me rock in the dance

'Cause me say listen to the drummer, me say listen to the bass
Give me little music make me wind up me waist
Me say listen to the drummer, me say listen to the bass
Give me little music make me wind up me waist, I say

Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
It a gonna burn, give me music make me jump and prance
It a go done, give me the music make me rock in the dance

You play it on the radio, a so me say, we a go hear it on the stereo
A so me know you a go play it on the disco
A so me say we a go hear it on the stereo

Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
It a gonna burn, give me music make me jump and prance
It a go done, give me the music make me rock in the dance

I say east, say west, say north and south (on the left hand side)
This is gonna make us jump and shout (on the left hand side)

This might be why El Condor Pasa is familiar, Letty - why I made my comment. This was a smash hit for them.

Wow! Our heralding honu is on a roll, folks, and this is most definitely "Dutchy Day" Don't forget The Eagle Has Landed. Very famous moon words.

Love all those lyrics, Big island man, and Frankie's "Mule Train" brings back some memories.

Speaking of roll, how about a different type of rock in some swinging gospel for Sunday.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etYHWZyRSMU

I remember different words to that song from my pre kindergarten days, folks.

There's no hiding place down here
There's no hiding place down here
I went to the rock to hide my face
But the rock cried out no hiding place
There's no hiding place down here

Sister Mary she wears a golden chain
Sister Mary she wears a golden chain
Sister Mary wears a golden chain
With every link in Jesus' name
There's no hiding place down here.

Oh, the devil he wears a hypocrite's shoe
Oh, the devil he sears a hypocrite's shoe
Oh, the devil wears a hypocrite's shoe
If you don't watch he'll slip it on you
There's no hiding place down here.

Oops, folks, missed our Raggedy's contribution.

You are right, puppy, that has to be where I heard el Condor. Love their version and thanks, PA.

Now I'm doing this from memory, but it seems that one Robert White was in a car wreck and asked God to let him live until he completed his masterpiece on Goya. I need to check that out, however.
