Ah, Raggedy. I used to have a tiny little nipponese turtle that I named Oscar. I love that hibiscus eating terrapin, PA. Wonder if he eats palm bark. Razz

edgar, Keely Smith was an Amerind, right? Will have to search out her's and Louis' background. Thanks, Texas.

My word, I found this one by Tony. What a voice.

From Youtube:

Lover Come Back to Me by Tony Martin:

"This clip is from the 1954 motion picture Deep in My Heart - a fictionalized account of the music and life of Sigmund Romberg. A beautiful performance by Tony Martin now celebrating his 95th birthday."

I was going to post a scene from the same movie, Deep in My Heart" for Cyd Charisse. It's a scene from the "Desert Song". I thought it might be too long, but that's what's great about Youtube - you can always turn if off you don't like it.

So:

Florida, Power and Lights knocked me off the air for a moment.

Raggedy that was beautiful. The combination of the exquisite dancing of Cyd and the song combined, was an art form. Thanks, PA.

edgar, that was hilarious. Dean and Jerry plus Tony and Joe. Thank you for the very broad smile.

Now this puzzles me. I know the lyrics to this song and it is beautiful, but I can't find it on YouTube.

My desert is waiting,
Dear come there with me.
I'm hoping to teach you
Love's sweet melody

I'll sing a love song for you,
Painting a picture or two.

Blue heaven and you and I
And sand kissing a moon lit sky
A desert breeze singing a lullaby
Only stars above you to say, I love you.

Oh, give me that night divine,
And let your heart and mine entwine,
The desert song calling
Its song enthralling
Will make you mine.

If anyone can locate that, it will be edgar or Raggedy.

Uh Oh. Good luck, Letty.

That is "The Desert Song" by Sigmund Romberg, Letty. Cyd danced to "One Alone" and "One Flower in Your Garden" from the same operetta, The Desert Song. But, I don't think it's been posted on Youtube.

Cyd's clip and Tony's clip are scenes from The Desert Song and The New Moon respectively, featured in the movie, "Deep in My Heart", the Sigmund Romberg story (Jose Ferrer as Romberg).

( On the large screen, Cyd's dress is absolutely stunning, Letty. Very Happy )

Found the lyrics, and I didn't do too bad remembering them, y'all.

Desert Song

Romberg (m) - Harbach & Hammerstein II (w)

My desert is waiting. Dear,
Come there with me.
I'm longing to teach you
Love's sweet melody.
I'll sing a dream song to you,
Painting a picture for two.

Blue heaven and you and I,
And sand kissing a moonlit sky.
A desert breeze whisp'ring a lullaby,
Only stars above you
To see I love you.

Oh, give me that night divine,
And let my arms in yours entwine.
The desert song, calling,
It's voice enthralling,
Will make you mine.

The verse is in a minor key, and the two choruses are major.

Oops, missed you Raggedy. Cyd's dress was stunning on YouTube, PA. Jose Ferrer did Romberg? Shocked

We'll dedicate this one to our edgar because of Ann.

Also listened to the Richard Tauber version. He was great.

Jose Ferrer's done everything, including a Broadway musical. Laughing

When "Deep in My Heart" is on TCM again, I'll let you know. I think you'd like it.

Indeed he has, Raggedy, including Toulouse Lautrec and Cyrano. If you can, remind me of the classic movies, I would appreciate it. I swear, there is nothing much good on the other channels or DVD. The last one I saw was Mr Brooks starring Kevin Costner, and it was weird.

Our art for today:

Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly

Thanks for the song, letty. I never could have gotten close enough to meet Lanza, but, I did once go out with a girl who had known him.

Thank you Edgar. I love Bing and Grace doing "True Love". Very Happy

I saw a new group last night on PBS called "Celtic Thunder" that I really like. It will be on again at 9PM this evening and I'm going to tape it. If you get Public Broadcasting, you might like to check it out.

edgar, I love True Love as well. Dear Princess Grace; another tragic ending that was somewhat clouded in mystery. I'm glad you liked my dedication to you, Texas.

Hmmm, Celtic Thunder? The name is intriguing, Raggedy.

I was thinking of Perry Como tonight, y'all, and realized he did a song based on Chopin's Polonaise, "Till the End of Time." That was his last recording.

What a wonderful way to say goodnight with a Chopin Nocturne.

Until tomorrow

Good morning WA2K listeners and contributors.

Rex, that was a superb video, Maine. You do have a talent. Thanks for letting us hear The Wizard.

Well, folks, today is Michel Legrand's birthday, and I am delighted to know that the man sings as well as being a virtuoso on the piano plus a great composer.

Let's listen.

Good morning WA2K.

Letty: We celebrated Michel Legrand's birthday here on February 24, but it was a real pleasure to hear him singing his Windmills of Your Mind this morning. Can never have too many B.D. celebrations. Very Happy

Wishing a Happy 72nd to Mickey Gilley; 76th to Keely Smith and 44th to Juliette Binoche (I liked her in "Chocolat")
and remembering Raul Julia (1940-1994)

Well, I screwed up again, Raggedy. How did I do that? I'm blaming it on the web. Evil or Very Mad

Thanks for the quartet of famous folks. Saw Kiss of the Spider Woman, and it was truly strange. Didn't Raul die of aids?

Don't know Juliette Binoche, puppy, but here's someone I just discovered, thanks to someone living in PA.

I looked for the Clancy Brothers with Tommy Makem version of this, but it was not posted. Here is the original, and just a bit better anyway.

Bob sounded great on that one, edgar. Thanks for the reminder.

dj played a whole bunch of the Clancy Brothers a while back.

This one is inspired by mysteryman's thread on Virginia. Found out that there is a place in Wythe County called Cripple Creek. Don't know how I know this one, folks, but I do.
