Good morning, WA2K listening audience.

edgar, that was fabulous, buddy, and Nat was playing the claves. Great rhythm instrument, Texas. Ah, Nat and Harry; what a duo. Thanks Texas for the early morning reggae.

Notice that today is Ray Price's birthday, so let's hear one by him.

Don't look so sad, I know it's over but life goes on
And this old world just keeps on turning.
Let's just be glad, we had this time to spend together
There's no need to watch the bridges that were burning.

Lay your head on my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body next to mine
Hear the whisper of the raindrops
Beating soft against the window
And make believe you love me one more time
For the good times.

I get lonely, you've found another
And I'll be here if you should find you ever need me.
Don't say a word about tomorrow or forever
There'll be time enough for sadness when you leave.

Lay your head on my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body next to mine
Hear the whisper of the raindrops
Beating soft against the window
And make believe you love me one more time
For the good times...

Good Morning WA2K.

Thanks for the Ray Price rendition of Kris's song, Letty. The first time I heard that great song was when Ray sang it.

A Happy 82nd to Ray:

And a Happy 78th to Glenn Yarborough, one of my favorite folk singers,

hey, hbg. I loved your picture as it reminded me of how much I adore dancing, even the tango. Razz Thanks, Canada. That youtube song was great because it takes us back a bit. Sometimes retro is fun. Do you know the meringue?

Well, there's our Raggedy with a great duo. I knew that Kris had done that puppy, and I listened to Glenn do Baby the Rain Must Fall. Thanks PA.

Jack London was also born on this day, and I love his short story "To Build a Fire"; however, the man didn't dance nor sing but this one reminds us of his most powerful novel.

[Merengue]

A bird who tries to fly higher
Flies into the blue
A lady who strives to rise higher
She wears a high heel shoe

Como un pajaro que vuela
Vuela alto al ciela azul
La mujer por mas que suba
Nunca lo puede alcanzar
Nunca lo puede alcanzar
Nunca lo puede alcanzar

Two mountains loved one another
For a million years
Let the river pull you under
Take your fingers outta your ears

What made Mona Lisa smile?
Es una sonrisa eterna
Learn not to run when you hear it call
La cual no puedes cambiar
It is not a lullabye
Su cantar es diferente
And the call of the wild is not a difficult song
Con su tonada bestial
No the call of the wild is not a difficult song
Con su tonada bestial

Es un eco en las montanas
Que rebota sin cesar
Y abajo cruza el rio
Que elimina el mal pensar
Que elimina el mal pensar
Que elimina el mal pensar
Que elimina el mal pensar

Albert Einstein wrote equations
Como un pajaro que vuela
God told Noah "Build an ark"
Vuela alto al cielo azul
Johnny Mathis sings Cole Porter
La mujer por mas que suba
To bring light into the dark
Nunca lo puede alcanzar

What made Mona Lisa smile?
Es una sonrisa eterna
Learn not to run when you hear it call
La cual no puedes cambiar
It is not a lullabye
Su cantar es diferente
And the call of the wild is not a difficult song
Con su tonada bestial
No the call of the wild is not a difficult song
Con su tonada bestial

Es el cantar de la selva
Con un ruido muy bestial
Es un eco de salvaje
Que se puede dominar
Que se puede dominar
Que se puede dominar

And the call of the wild is not a difficult song
Que se puede dominar
The call of the wild is not a difficult song
Que se puede dominar

And the call of the wild is not a difficult song
Que se puede dominar
The call of the wild is not a difficult song
Que se puede dominar

to remember the good meal we enjoyed at the irish pub last night .

Quote:
Bunch of Thyme ()
Author: traditional

Come all you maidens young and fair
All you who are blooming in your prime
always beware and keep your garden fair
And let no man steal away your thyme

Chorus
Thyme it is a precious thing
Thyme brings all things to your mind
Thyme with all its labors, along with all its joys
And its thyme brings all things to an end

Once I had a bunch of thyme
I thought it never would decay
and then a lusty sailor had chanced to pass my way
He stole my bunch of thyme away

The sailor gave to me a rose
I thought it never would decay
He gave it to me to keep me reminded
Of when he stole my thyme away

So come all you maidens young and fair
All you that flourish in your prime
always be minded to keep your garden fair
And let no man steal your bunch of thyme

i wore my TWEED CAP just like those fellows !

Ah, hbg. High tea and a tux. Love the "tweed" cap as well, buddy. Thanks for the tyme song, but instead of playing "Time on my Hands", I think we should hear this one.

Scarborough Fair/Canticle

Are you going to Scarborough Fair:
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme.
Remember me to one who lives there.
She once was a true love of mine.

On the side of a hill in the deep forest green.
Tracing of sparrow on snow-crested brown.
Blankets and bedclothes the child of the mountain
Sleeps unaware of the clarion call.

Tell her to make me a cambric shirt:
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme;
Without no seams nor needle work,
Then she'll be a true love of mine.

On the side of a hill a sprinkling of leaves.
Washes the grave with silvery tears.
A soldier cleans and polishes a gun.
Sleeps unaware of the clarion call.

Tell her to find me an acre of land:
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme;
Between the salt water and the sea strand,
Then she'll be a true love of mine.

War bellows blazing in scarlet battalions.
General order their soldiers to kill.
And to fight for a cause they've long ago forgotten.

Tell her to reap it with a sickle of leather:
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme;
And gather it all in a bunch of heather,
Then she'll be a true love of mine.

Performed by
Simon & Garfunkel

must check youtube !

ain't he the cat's whiskers ?
he must have just come from the tailor's !

http://ochmonek.files.wordpress.com/2007/08/cabcalloway.jpg

Quote:
Utt Da Zay (The Tailor's Song)
(Ram, Mills)

Transcribed from vocals by Cab Calloway, recorded July 17, 1939,
From Cab Calloway and His Orchestra, 1939-1940, Chronological Classics 595.

My mother used to sing to me,
A haunting little melody;
Nobody knows where it came from,
Or where it was composed.

[Scatting]

"Utt da zay," sings the tailor,
As he fashions pretty clothes;
"Utt da zay," sings the tailor,
As he sews, sews, sews.
He's as busy as a bee,
Making lovely finery,
Things my baby loves to wear
When I take her to the fair.
"Utt da zay," sings the tailor; all it means is "That's the way."
When I buy the things he made her, says the tailor, "Utt da zay."

[Scatting]
Oh, do you dig, dig, dig?
Do you chop, chop, chop?
Are you hep to this jive that I'm laying to you?
[Scatting]

Fabulous, hbg. and I just discovered that Cab played with Dizzy until they got into a small fray about spitballs. Razz

I know him best for Minnie the Moocher, 'cause Danny Kaye did that one as well, and, of course, St. James Infirmary. Loved your song by Mr. Hidi ho. (hoped that is the proper spelling)

Soccer George has a funny thread about baby boomers, and I knew the original by Steppenwolf, but I did NOT realize that it was the music in the movie Easy Rider. That was some flick, folks.

Here's the song, folks.

Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Lookin' for adventure
And whatever comes our way
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racin' with the wind
And the feelin' that I'm under
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

Like a true nature's child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die

Born to be wild
Born to be wild

Great, edgar. He and Bobby Darin were so young when they died.

Here's some info about the two and Bobby's Mack the Knife.

"Bobby Darin sings 'Guys and Dolls' and 'Mack the Knife'. Pete Murray
introduces Duane Eddy and the Rebels peforming 'Shazam'. Darin sings
accompanied by Duane Eddy on the guitar. Pete Murray introduces Darin
singing 'The Gal That Got Away'. Bob Miller and the Millermen perform
a number. Darin sings 'My Funny Valentine'. Darin introdues Clyde
McPhatter singing 'Think Me a Kiss'. Clyde McPhatter sings 'Have Mercy
Baby' accompanied by Darin on the piano. Darin introduces Rosemary
Squires singing 'Solitude' [with dancing by Irving Davies and Frances
Pidgeon]. Darin sings 'La Mer [Beyond the Sea]' followed by his new
single 'Clementine'. Darin has a quick interview with Pete Murray,
followed by a short dance lesson from Irving Davies. Rosemary Squires
joins Darin to sing 'Crazy Over You'. Clyde McPhatter and Duane Eddy
leave Darin to sing the final song."

Artist: Bobby Darin
Song: Mack the Knife

Oh, the shark, babe, has such teeth, dear
And it shows them pearly white
Just a jackknife has old MacHeath, babe
And he keeps it, ah, out of sight
Ya know when that shark bites with his teeth, babe
Scarlet billows start to spread
Fancy gloves, oh, wears old MacHeath, babe
So there's never, never a trace of red

Now on the sidewalk, huh, huh,
whoo sunny morning, un huh
Lies a body just oozin' life, eek
And someone's sneakin' 'round the corner
Could that someone be Mack the Knife?

There's a tugboat, huh, huh, down by the river dontcha know
Where a cement bag's just a'drooppin' on down
Oh, that cement is just, it's there for the weight, dear
Five'll get ya ten old Macky's back in town
Now d'ja hear 'bout Louie Miller? He disappeared, babe
After drawin' out all his hard-earned cash
And now MacHeath spends just like a sailor
Could it be our boy's done somethin' rash?

Now Jenny Diver, ho, ho, yeah, Sukey Tawdry
Ooh, Miss Lotte Lenya and old Lucy Brown
Oh, the line forms on the right, babe
Now that Macky's back in town

I said Jenny Diver, whoa, Sukey Tawdry
Look out to Miss Lotte Lenya and old Lucy Brown
Yes, that line forms on the right, babe
Now that Macky's back in town.....

Look out, old Macky's back!!

Good morning, WA2K radio folks.

Debacle, welcome to our cyber studio, buddy, and thanks for the song by Kris. Hadn't heard that one.

Dutchy, that is one I think we all know, and it is great.

Well, folks, today is Cris Rock's birthday, but I think we should stick with Kris with a "K". Razz

Here's one of my favorites by him.

Busted flat in baton rouge, headin for the trains,
Feelin nearly faded as my jeans.
Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before it rained,
Took us all the way to new orleans.
Took my harpoon out of my dirty red bandana
And was blowin sad while bobby sang the blues,
With them windshield wipers slappin time and
Bobby clappin hands we finally sang up every song
That driver knew.

Freedoms just another word for nothin left to lose,
And nothin aint worth nothin but its free,
Feelin good was easy, lord, when bobby sang the blues,
And buddy, that was good enough for me,
Good enough for me and my bobby mcgee.

From the coalmines of kentucky to the california sun,
Bobby shared the secrets of my soul,
Standin right beside me through everythin I done,
And every night she kept me from the cold.
The somewhere near salinas, lord, I let her slip away,
She was lookin for the love I hope shell find,
Well Id trade all my tomorrows for a single yesterday,
Holdin bobbys body close to mine.

Freedoms just another word for nothin left to lose,
And nothin left was all she left to me,
Feelin good was easy, lord, when bobby sang the blues,
And buddy, that was good enough for me.
Good enough for me and bobby mcgee.

There one time occurred a Bob Dylan's 30th Anniversary Concert. An array of stars, such as Willie Nelson, Kris Kristoferson, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Winter, and more, performed Dylan songs. Sinead O'Conner was out there to sing "I Believe in You," one of my favorite Dylan songs. But, she had recently made a remark about the Pope, which many persons found offensive. I don't recall the gist of the remark. But, what happened while she occupied the stage was remarkable and moving. Here it is, on You Tube.

edgar, it took me a few minutes to compose myself after hearing Sinead shout her message of war. I shed a few tears, Texas. It may not have been Voltaire who said this, but it is a powerful quote nonetheless.

"I don't agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Well, folks, since this was the very first song that I heard by Dylan, I inted to play it for our listeners. What a surprise to find out that "Lady" was his dog.

Lay, Lady, Lay
Bob Dylan
Lay, lady, lay, lay across my big brass bed
Lay, lady, lay, lay across my big brass bed
Whatever colors you have in your mind
I'll show them to you and you'll see them shine

Lay, lady, lay, lay across my big brass bed
Stay, lady, stay, stay with your man awhile
Until the break of day, let me see you make him smile
His clothes are dirty but his hands are clean
And you're the best thing that he's ever seen

Stay, lady, stay, stay with your man awhile
Why wait any longer for the world to begin
You can have your cake and eat it too
Why wait any longer for the one you love
When he's standing in front of you

Lay, lady, lay, lay across my big brass bed
Stay, lady, stay, stay while the night is still ahead
I long to see you in the morning light
I long to reach for you in the night
Stay, lady, stay, stay while the night is still ahead.

Lena Horne censored. I bought her album, titled, "Now," the week it was released. It began as her fastest selling album, but radio stations refused to play the main song. I posted the lyrics on the radio station a couple of years ago. Now, I can play it for you. The presentation begins with footage of 1965 events, but then presents the song.

Wow! edgar, that was some video and song by Lena. Interesting that she was singing NOW to the melody of Hava Nagila. Thanks, Texas.

Which reminds me, folks, Jan 21 is Martin Luther King, Jr. day.

Well, I know that one of the group called The Bangles has a birthday today, but I'm not certain which one.

Here's one by all of them. Razz

Walk Like An Egyptian
L. Steinberg

All the old paintings on the tomb
They do the sand dance, doncha know?
If they move too quick (Oh-Way-Oh)
They're falling down like a domino

And the bazaar man by the Nile
He got the money on a bet
For the crocodiles (Oh-Way-Oh)
They snap their teeth on a cigarette

Foreign types with their hookah pipes sing:
Way-oh-way-oh-way-ooo-aaa-ooo...
Walk like an Egyptian.

The blonde waitresses take their trays
Spin around and they cross the floor.
They've got the moves (Oh-Way-Oh)
You drop your drink then they bring you more

All the school kids so sick of books
They like the punk and the metal band
When the buzzer rings (Oh-Way-Oh)
They're walking like an Egyptian

All the kids in the marketplace say:
Way-oh-way-oh-way-ooo-aaa-ooo...
Walk like an Egyptian.

Line your feet a street, bend your back,
Shift your arm, then you pull a clock
Like Sergeant O (Oh-Way-Oh)
So strike a pose on a Cadillac

If you want to find all the cops,
They're hanging out in the donut shop.
They sing and dance (Oh-Way-Oh)
They spin their clock and cruise on down the block

All the Japanese with their Yen
The party boys call the Kremlin
The Chinese know (Oh-Way-Oh)
They walk along like Egyptians

All the cops in the donut shops say:
Way-oh-way-oh-way-ooo-aaa-ooo...
Walk like an Egyptian
Walk like an Egyptian

PAT GREEN - LOUISIANA SONG

http://msnbcmedia3.msn.com/j/ap/a37e9f1a-554b-4db2-bfb2-9614a20841bb.widec.jpg

Quote:
I took me a river boat from Memphis and I rode to New Orleans. Met up with a little cayenne mamma. She said she'd like to be
my Delta queen,
She said there's one thing I forgot to tell you,
Yeah there's one thing you should know. She said my mamma
was a voodoo princess and my heart beats black like coal,
Well she made up some black magic gumbo and some voodoo etoufe'
She said once you taste my cookin boy It's gonna steal your heart away, She said there's one more thing I forgot to tell you
Yeah there's one thing that you should know,
She said once you taste my baby's cookin', It's gonna turn your heart black like coal.
Now she took me on a little walk down the bayou, On a lovers rendevous. She said take my hand little cajun man gonna do
the thing lovers do,
now there's one thing I forgot to tell you, yeah there's one thing you should know, she said ohh-oooh-oooh-
oh ohhh mmmm-mmmm-mm-mm-mmmm, Now this ain't hardly no story, Yeah it's barely even worth the tell,
But you ramble around in a delta town, You're sure to lose yourself,
And there's one thing I forgot to tell you, yeah there's one thing I forgot to tell you.
I said now don't you go messin' with no voodoo mamma, She take you straight to hell.
