edgar, great and I mean great, especially the medley.

Well, listeners, I have company for the weekend, so I hope to see all you staff and listeners here and continuing to sing and post items of interest.

Hope to be back later, but if not:

A sweet goodnight.
parting is such sweet sorrow,
That I shall say goodnight til it be morrow.

About A Quarter To Nine - Ozzie Nelson
[Written by Al Dubin and Harry Warren]

The stars are gonna' twinkle and shine This evening about a quarter to nine My lovin' arms are gonna' tenderly twine Around you around a quarter to nine I know I won't be late 'Cause at half past eight I'm gonna' hurry there I'll be waiting where the lane begins Waiting for you on needles and pins And then the world is gonna' be mine This evening about a quarter to nine

All right, Letty, you called me on some architect having secrets, a few pages ago.

I could not respond quickly, since I didn't see it.
I don't know anything about that.
What can I say?

Good morning listeners. Here I am rubbing the sleep out of my eyes and some of you are already at work. The sun is beautiful today. So for those of you on the way or grabbing breakfast at the local cafe, let's ask Louis Armstrong to tell it to us one more time

Louis-Armstrong's - That Lucky Old Sun

Up in the mornin'
Out on the job
Work like the devil for my pay
But that lucky old sun got nothin' to do
But roll around heaven all day.
Fuss with my woman, toil for my kids
Sweat till I'm wrinkled and gray
While that lucky old sun got nothin' to do
But roll around heaven all day
Dear lord above, can't you know I'm pining, tears all in my eyes
Send down that cloud with a silver lining, lift me to paradise
Show me that river, take me across
Wash all my troubles away
Like that lucky old sun, give me nothing to do but roll around heaven all day
But roll around heaven all day
Send down that cloud with a silver lining, lift me to paradise
Show me that river, take me across
Wash all my troubles away
Like that lucky old sun, give me nothing to do
But roll around heaven all day

True Love - Bing Crosby & Grace Kelly

[Written by Cole Porter]

Suntanned, windblown
Honeymooners at last alone
Feeling far above par
Oh, how lucky we are

While I give to you and you give to me
True love, true love
So on and on it will always be
True love, true love

For you and I have a guardian angel
On high, with nothing to do
But to give to you and to give to me
Love forever true

For you and I have a guardian angel
On high, with nothin' to do
But to give to you and to give to me
Love forever true
Love forever true

"True Love" earned Grace Kelly
(Later "Princess Grace of Monaco") her first and only gold record
It earned Bing his 21st
The song was taken from the movie High Society
Starring Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong

Good morning WA2K radio fans. Well, it is nice to hear "That Lucky Old Sun" by Louis, sachmo, Armstrong, Bob. I don't see much rollin' here this morning as it's a bit overcast. I'm a mite groggy myself, incidentally.

edgar, my word, I had forgotten that duo by the princess and Bing. I read yesterday that the Prince, (not gautam) is on a respirator, but nothing to report today on his condiditon.

Osso, I was just citing a coincidence about watching that episode on Law and Order: C.I. concerning the architect. It seemed unusual to me and the timing was right in sync with the rest of our stuff.

Today is Good Friday, listeners. When I was a kid, I could never understand why the Christian world dubbed it as such.

Listeners, it seems that spring break in Daytona Beach has turned rather ugly. More on that later.

Since our Montana no longer brings us coffee and danish, guess I had better hop to it and fix all of us some plain old java.

Back later, folks.

Aaah. Lots of great music here. And, True Love with Bing and Grace. That's one of my all time sentimental favorites. I best remember the Frankie Laine version of Lucky 'Ol Sun. It was an enormous hit back then.

And, the Birthday Celebs:

1908 David Lean, director (London, England; died 1991)
1921 Simone Signoret, actress (France; died 1985)
1928 James A Lovell Jr Cleveland OH, USN/astronaut (Gemini 7, 12, Apollo 8, 13)
1934 Gloria Steinem, author/feminist (Toledo, OH)

Raggedy, good morning. Glad to see you are well and in the company of great celebs. Know most of them this time, but I was unaware that Hoyt Axton had died.

Ah, Sir Elton. The kids in my classroom always said that Elton wrote this song to me. Very Happy

Teacher I Need You

Music by Elton John
Lyrics by Bernie Taupin
Available on the album Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player

I was sitting in the classroom
Trying to look intelligent
In case the teacher looked at me
She was long and she was lean
She's a middle-aged dream
And that lady means the whole world to me

It's a natural achievement
Conquering my homework
With her image pounding in my brain
She's an inspiration
For my graduation
And she helps to keep the classroom sane

Oh teacher I need you like a little child
You got something in you to drive a schoolboy wild
You give me education in the lovesick blues
Help me get straight come out and say
Teacher I, teacher I, teacher I, Teacher I need you

I have to write a letter
Tell about my feelings
Just to let her know the scene
Focus my attention
On some further education
In connection with the birdies and the bees

So I'm sitting in the classroom
I'm looking like a zombie
I'm waiting for the bell to ring
I've got John Wayne stances
I've got Erroll Flynn advances
And it doesn't mean a doggone thing

Omigod! It's Friday again. Karaoke night ! Yeehaw! In honor to those who entertain (excluding myself of course) who bring happiness, relief, nostalgia, longing to so many we offer Billy Joel. Take it away, Billy

Piano Man Lyrics
Artist: Billy Joel
Album: Piano Man

Billy Joel

It's nine o'clock on a Saturday
the regular crowd shuffles in
There's an old man sitting next to me
Makin' love to his tonic and gin
He says, Son can you play me a memory
I'm not really sure how it goes
But it's sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete
When I wore a younger man's clothes
Da da da de de da
da da de de da da da
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright
Now John at the bar is a friend of mine
He gets me my drinks for free
And he's quick with a joke or to light up your smoke
But there's someplace that he'd rather be
He says Bill, I believe this is killing me
As the smile ran away from his face
Well I'm sure that I could be a movie star
If I could get out of this place
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright
Now Paul is a real estate novelist
Who never had time for a wife
And he's talking with Davy who's still in the navy
And probably will be for life
And the waitress is practicing politics
As the businessmen slowly get stoned
Yes, they're sharing a drink they call loneliness
But it's better than drinking alone
It's a pretty good crowd for a Saturday,
And the manager gives me a smile
'Cause he knows that it's me they've been coming to see
To forget about life for awhile.
And the piano sounds like a carnival
And the microphone smells like a beer
And they sit at the bar and put bread in my jar
And say "Man, what are you doin' here?"
Da da da de de da
da da de de da da da
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight.
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

I love this song and will sing it tonight (whether the crowd wants it or not)

All right, Bob. Knock em dead! I like Billy Joel as well.

Raggedy and I were just discussing Sir Elton, and I do believe that he and Billy Joel worked together for a while.

For some reason, listeners. I have this poet on my mind today.

Abu Ben Adam, may his tribe increase
Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace
And saw, within the moonlight of his room
Making it rich, like a lily in bloom
An angel writing in a book of gold.
Exceeding peace had made Abu Ben Adam bold.
And to the presence in his room said,
'What writest thou?' The vision raised it's head.
And with a look of all sweet accord
Answered, 'The names of those who love the Lord.'
'And is mine one?' said Abu. 'Nay not so,'
Replied the angel. Abu spoke more low.
But cheerily still and said, 'I pray thee then
Write me as one that loves his fellow men.'
The angel wrote and vanished.
The next night it came again with awakening light
And showed the names of whom the God of love had blessed.
And , lo! Abu Ben Adam's name led all the rest

Leigh Hunt

This is for Husker.

I'll Be Your Baby Tonight

Close your eyes, close the door,
You don't have to worry any more.
I'll be your baby tonight.

Shut the light, shut the shade,
You don't have to be afraid.
I'll be your baby tonight.

Well, that mockingbird's gonna sail away,
We're gonna forget it.
That big, fat moon is gonna shine like a spoon,
But we're gonna let it,
You won't regret it.

Kick your shoes off, do not fear,
Bring that bottle over here.
I'll be your baby tonight.

- Bob Dylan

The Guests - leonard Cohen

One by one, the guests arrive
The guests are coming through
The open-hearted many
The broken-hearted few
And no one knows where the night is going
And no one knows why the wine is flowing
Oh love I need you
I need you
I need you
I need you
Oh . . . I need you now

And those who dance, begin to dance
Those who weep begin
And 'Welcome, welcome' cries a voice
'Let all my guests come in.'

And no one knows where the night is going ...

And all go stumbling through that house
in lonely secrecy
Saying 'Do reveal yourself'
or 'Why has thou forsaken me'

And no one knows where the night is going ...

All at once the torches flare
The inner door flies open
One by one they enter there
In every style of passion

And no one knows where the night is going ...

And here they take their sweet repast
While house and grounds dissolve
And one by one the guests are cast
Beyond the garden wall

And no one knows where the night is going ...

Those who dance, begin to dance
Those who weep begin
Those who earnestly are lost
Are lost and lost again

And no one knows where the night is going ...

One by the guests arrive
The guests are coming through
The broken-hearted many
The open-hearted few

Well, listeners, to complement edgar's great song by Bob Dylan, Here is an interest item about his namesake, Dylan Thomas:

Thomas's first two books, 18 Poems and Twenty-five Poems, were published respectively in 1934 and 1936. He married Caitlin Macnamara in 1937 (they had three children during their tempestuous years together) and he made his first radio broadcast with Life and the Modern Poet on the BBC Welsh Services the following year. After the Second World War, his popularity as a poet grew in direct proportion to his reputation as a heavy drinker. However, his positive, rhetorical style won an enthusiastic following and poems such as A Refusal to Mourn the Death by Fire of a Child in London led to lecture tours of the United States. He died in St. Vincent's Hospital, New York, on 9th November 1953.

This stage adaptation of Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Dog - so bristling with humour and pathos - will undoubtedly delight parents and teachers endeavouring to introduce young people to Thomas's work. Adult audiences will also be entranced by its wry, witty narrative and flamboyant presentation. There is little doubt that, in the future, new theatrical companies will revive the production and it will become a fitting tribute to one of the world's great 20th century poets.

The part of this piece that caught my eye was the fact that Dylan Thomas made his first radio broadcast with Life and the Modern poet. Soooooo, this fits nicely into our archives at WA2K radio.

Incidentally, edgar. Truman Capote called D.T. a spoiled baby. Razz

edgar, I think Capote's quote went something like:

"And overgrown baby who'll destroy everything he can get his hands on including himself."

Odd that Capote would observe that about Thomas, since he did the same.

Another funny from Thomas:

The Portrait of an Artist as a Young Dog.

Listeners, music is poetry, poetry is art, and art is philosophy as a work in progress.

Earlier, on one of our broadcasts, listeners, panz and dys were discussing Hoyt Axton. Then our Raggedy let us know of his birthday and his demise.

In searching out some songs of Axton, I ran across this surprising song:

I was born in East Virginia
North Carolina I did go
There I met the fairest maiden
Her name and age I did not know

Well her hair was dark in color (note 1)
And her cheeks were rosy red
On her breast she wore a white lily
Where I longed to lay my head

I don't want the greenback dollar (note 3)
I don't want the big gold chain
All I want is your love darling
Won't you please come back again

I wish I was in some dark hollow (note 2)
Where the sun would never shine
Than for you to be in some man's arms
And to know you'll never be mine

Notes
(1) Peter Rowan sings this verse as part of Rosalee McFall
(2) this verse has led to many tapes listing this song wrongly as Greenback Dollar
(3) the song Dark Hollow derived from this verse

Amazing, folks, how we discover origins, is it not?

Reyn, welcome to our studios. We most certainly do take requests. I Couldn't find the exact song that you were hoping for, but here's one that you might like:

Ooh, I love you so
But why I love you I'll never know
You found a reason for leavin'
Soon as I gave my love to you

And oh...ah...whoa...the pain you put me through
You don't care 'bout my love for you, huh
But I found a reason for livin'
And I'm through with cryin' over you

And now I feel a song in my heart again
I knew as soon as I felt him lookin' through me
I feel a song in my heart again
High on the wings of the things he's doin' to me

Oh, that a man is fine
Ooh, what's even better the man is mine
He makes me feel just like a woman
Something that you could never do

And now I feel a song in my heart again
I found a man who can out it all together

I feel a song in my heart again
I'm gonna love him and make it last forever

Our worlds have come to an end
I feel a song in my heart again

Oh...oh...oh...it feels so good
You, you, you, you, you never understood
He makes me feel like I'm somethin'
And I'm gonna keep him if I can

I know I feel a song in my heart again
Now I can open my eyes to a new door
I feel a song in my heart again
The man is all that I need to fill my love up

I feel a song, ooh, what a feelin'
I feel it takin' me higher and higher
I feel a song in my heart again
His kind of lovin' I can never get enough of

I don't need your lovin' 'cause I got his lovin'
Woo, I feel a song again, ooh, y'all, I've been born again, ooh...
[I feel a song in my heart again]
[Feel it]

I feel a song in my heart again
I've got to tell you he's twice the man that you were
I feel a song in my heart again.

Later, Ryn, I'll try and locate YOUR song.

Incidentally, listeners, Ryn has a marvelous collage on another thread. Visit him there.
