Quote:
Did You Know?

The gargantuan Sir Falstaff was the first unwelcome guest to eat his hostess "out of house and home"

Juliet thought that parting from her Young Romeo was "such sweet sorrow"

Macbeth believed himself to be "a sorry sight"

It was Rosalind who desired "too much of a good thing"

Lady Macbeth realized that "what's done is done"

Don't you love it, folks? We're caught in between Avon and Brazil.

Thanks, hbg. Most of us know all those references, and as to Rosalind's thighs, well we'll leave that to Mercutio. Razz

Finally, and for hebba.

The Face I Love lyrics

Just think of things like daffodils
and peaceful sheep on clovered hills
the morning song of whippoorwills
and you'll see the face I love

think of any old sky
getting ready to cry
Down comes the rain but
It's raining confetti

Then think of things like far off isles
to blue green eyes
and sunlit smiles
and in your hand a wishing star
the one you saw too far off above

every lovely view
introduces you
to the face I love

That would be a good one for Craven to have sung at his wedding.

And here is the YouTube version.

The Gaucho Serenade
Glenn Miller & His Orchestra

Every night when the moon is shining
Bright down in Rio De Janiero
Comes a gent with a mellow instrument
And a colorful sombrero
Then he sings and the melody he brings
So tenderly played
Is called the Gaucho Serenade

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la

Si, Senor he's a happy troubadour
On a patio you'll find him
Si Senor, he will go from door to door
Leaving happiness behind him
All the sweet Senoritas
Hurry out to join the parade

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la

The Gaucho Serenade

Thanks, edgar. Reminds me of "What Do They Do on a Rainy Night in Rio?"

Here's a song, folks, that was done by my brother. This version, however, is done by someone relatively new on the scene.

Chris Isaak

South of the border, down Mexico way.
That's where I fell in love where stars above, came out to play.
And now as I wander, my thoughts ever stray.
South of the border, down Mexico way.

She was a picture, in old spanish ways.
Just for a tender while I kissed the smile, upon her face.
For it was fiesta, and love had it's day.
South of the border, down Mexico way.

Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay (Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay)
[ Lyrics found at www.mp3lyrics.org/aNs ]
Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay (Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay)

Then she sighed as she whispered mañana, never
dreaming that we were parting.
And I lied as I whispered mañana, for our tomorrow never came.

South of the border, I rode back one day.
There in a veil of white by candlelight, she kneeled to pray.
The mission bells told me, that I shouldn't stay.
South of the border, down Mexico way.

Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay (Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay)
Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay (Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay)
Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay (Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay)
Good bye good bye.

Season Of The Witch
(Donovan Leitch)

When I look out my window
Many sights to see
And when I look in my window
So many different people to be
That it's strange
So strange

You've got to pick up every stitch
You've got to pick up every stitch
You've got to pick up every stitch
Oh no
Must be the season of the witch
Must be the season of the witch
Must be the season of the witch
Must be the season of the witch

When I look over my shoulder
What do you think I see
Some old soul look over
Her shoulder at me
And she's strange
Sure she's strange

You've got to pick up every stitch
You've got to pick up every stitch
You've got to pick up every stitch
Oh no
Must be the season of the witch
Must be the season of the witch
Must be the season of the witch
Must be the season of the witch

When I look out my window
What do you think I see
When I look in my window
So many different people to be
It's strange
Sure it's strange

You've got to pick up every stitch
You've got to pick up every stitch
Rabbits run in the ditch
Oh
Oh no
Must be the season of the witch
Must be the season of the witch
Must be the season of the witch

Yeah yeah yeah
Be the season of the witch
Yeah yeah yeah
Be the season of the witch
Yeah yeah yeah
Season of the witch
Season of the witch

Good morning WA2K.

You are absolutely correct, Letty. Very Happy

And here's George and the real Superman:

A slight resemblance, but I wasn't fooled.

And a Happy 76th to Robert Duvall and 61st to Diane Keaton.

Hey, Raggedy. Great collage, PA. I remember Robert Duvall first as Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird. He WAS the mockingbird. Then, of course, he was the lawyer of the mob in The Godfather movie as Diane Keaton was the girlfriend of Al Pacino. Pulling this info from my RNA, folks, so I do hope most of it is correct.

The first movie that I saw starring Diane Keaton was Looking for Mr. Goodbar. <shudder> Had no idea that she sang, however, and I found this oldie by her.

Seems like old times
Having you to walk with
Seems like old times
Having you to talk with
And it's still a thrill
Just to have my arms around you
Still the thrill that it was
The day I found you

Seems like old times
Dinner dates and flowers
Just like old times
Staying up for hours
Making dreams come true
Doing things we used to do

Seems like old times
Being here with you...

here is a modern version to make all MAZDA drivers happy !

Quote:
Shine little glow-worm, glimmer, glimmer
Shine little glow-worm, glimmer, glimmer
Lead us lest too far we wander
Love's sweet voice is calling yonder
Shine little glow-worm, glimmer, glimmer
Hey, there don't get dimmer, dimmer
Light the path below, above
And lead us on to love!

Glow little glow-worm, fly of fire
Glow like an incandescent wire
Glow for the female of the species
Turn on the AC and the DC
This night could use a little brightnin'
Light up you little ol' bug of lightnin'
When you gotta glow, you gotta glow
Glow little glow-worm, glow

Glow little glow-worm, glow and glimmer
Swim through the sea of night, little swimmer
Thou aeronautical boll weevil
Illuminate yon woods primeval
See how the shadows deep and darken
You and your chick should get to sparkin'
I got a gal that I love so
Glow little glow-worm, glow

Glow little glow-worm, turn the key on
You are equipped with taillight neon
You got a cute vest-pocket *Mazda*
Which you can make both slow and *fazda*
I don't know who you took a shine to
Or who you're out to make a sign to
I got a gal that I love so
Glow little glow-worm, glow
Glow little glow-worm, glow
Glow little glow-worm, glow
Glow little glow-worm, glow !!

Ah, hbg. My mom loved that song, and the words are still quite clever, right? Thanks for the memory, Canada.

When I was a wee thing, we caught lightning bugs in a jar and often got the "glow stuff" on our fingers.

I think that glow worms are larvae, and that lightening bugs are a separate species, but I'm not certain.

LIGHTNING BUGS (Mike Starling)

Lightning bugs in the sky
They call them fireflies
Lightning bugs in a jar
Twinkle like little stars

Lightning across the sky
Thunder clouds way up high
Sitting out on the porch
Watching it rain and pour

There ain't no school today
All we can do is play
Puddles in the driveway
Splashing the day away

The coals are powder hot
I'm lookin for the right spot
Twist it and turn it around
Marshmallow's gettin brown

Lightning bugs in the sky
They call them fireflies
Lightning bugs in a jar
Twinkle like little stars

Wow, edgar. You always send many of us to the archives. I enjoyed Green Acres when it was a regular on TV, but I had no idea of how the idea generated. Thanks, Texas.

I did a bit of research about Eddie Albert, and was surprised that he was the son of German immigrants. He was also a hero in WWII.

Private life

Albert married actress María Marguerita Guadalupe Boldao y Castilla O'Donnell (better known by her stage name Margo) on December 5, 1945, and they remained together until her death of a brain tumor on July 17, 1985.

Eddie and Margo Albert lived in Pacific Palisades, California. Their home was described as unpretentious. It was a Spanish-style house on an acre of land with a cornfield in the front yard. Eddie grew organic vegetables in a greenhouse he had in the back yard, and fondly remembered how his parents had a "liberty garden" at home during World War I.

The Alberts had two children, Edward and Maria.

Edward Albert (1951-2006) was an actor, musician, singer, and linguist. He put his acting career aside for eight years to care for his father in his last years. He died at age 55, only one year after his father.

His adopted daughter, Maria Albert Zucht, who is married and has one daughter, Mia, worked as her father's business manager.

Eddie Albert suffered from Alzheimer's disease in his last years. Although unusual for Alzheimer's patients, he exercised regularly until shortly before his death.

And, folks, the theme form Green Acres.

Green acres is the place for me.
Farm livin' is the life for me.
Land spreadin' out so far and wide
Keep Manhattan, just give me that countryside.
New York is where I'd rather stay.
I get allergic smelling hay.
I just adore a penthouse view.
Dah-ling I love you but give me Park Avenue.
...The chores.
...The stores.
...Fresh air.
...Times Square
You are my wife.
Good bye, city life.
Green Acres we are there.

My, my, folks, our little town is becoming multi-cultural. Just got back from a delightful evening meal at a REAL French cafe.

Now let's see. Ah, yes. edgar, I am certain that you mean the radio show and not the TV version, right?

hbg, I vaguely remember certain episodes of Green Acres, but I do know that Eva Gabor was attempting to display her sister's affectations. You are full of references tonight, buddy. Pigmalion? Love it! Shaw's wonderful story that later led to My Fair Lady.

I will wager that every child, at one time or another, has sung Farmer in the Dell, and did you know that The Happy Farmer was a song by Schumann? I can still play that on piano. The melody is in the bass clef, and the chord structure in the treble clef. Quite an innovation. No wonder I love that composer.

Heard this song tonight, and it seems to fit the mellow mood theme, so let's listen.

Sir Elton John

There's a calm surrender to the rush of day
When the heat of a rolling wind can be turned away
An enchanted moment, and it sees me through
It's enough for this restless warrior just to be with you

And can you feel the love tonight
It is where we are
It's enough for this wide-eyed wanderer
That we got this far
And can you feel the love tonight
How it's laid to rest
It's enough to make kings and vagabonds
Believe the very best

There's a time for everyone if they only learn
That the twisting kaleidoscope moves us all in turn
There's a rhyme and reason to the wild outdoors
When the heart of this star-crossed voyager beats in time with yours

Fake Plastic Trees
Radiohead

A green plastic watering can
For a fake chinese rubber plant
In the fake plastic earth

That she bought from a rubber man
In a town full of rubber plans
To get rid of itself

It wears her out, it wears her out
It wears her out, it wears her out

She lives with a broken man
A cracked polystyrene man
Who just crumbles and burns

He used to do surgery
On girls in the eighties
But gravity always wins

And it wears him out, it wears him out
It wears him out, it wears him out

She looks like the real thing
She tastes like the real thing
My fake plastic love

But I can't help the feeling
I could blow through the ceiling
If I just turn and run

And it wears me out, it wears me out
It wears me out, it wears me out

And if I could be who you wanted
If I could be who you wanted
All the time, all the time

No Surprises
Radiohead

A heart that's full up like a landfill,
a job that slowly kills you,
bruises that won't heal.
You look so tired-unhappy,
bring down the government,
they don't, they don't speak for us.
I'll take a quiet life,
a handshake of carbon monoxide,

with no alarms and no surprises,
no alarms and no surprises,
no alarms and no surprises,
Silent silence.

This is my final fit,
my final bellyache,

with no alarms and no surprises,
no alarms and no surprises,
no alarms and no surprises please.

Such a pretty house
and such a pretty garden.

No alarms and no surprises,
no alarms and no surprises,
no alarms and no surprises please.

Welcome back, dj. I noted your tribute to Cavfancier/Paul on the forum and it was a sweet memory knowing that he is still remembered after three years.

Also am fascinated with the music of Radiohead, buddy. Those lyrics say a lot about today's world.

Here's an interesting one by the same group, folks.

Creep
Radiohead/Yorke

When you were here before, couldn't look you in the eye.
You're just like an angel, your skin makes me cry.
You float like a feather, in a beautiful world.
I wish I was special, you're so (darn) special.
But I'm a creep.
I'm a weirdo.
What the hell am I doing here?
I don't belong here.
I don't care if it hurts, I wanna have control.
I want a perfect body, I want a perfect soul.
I want you to notice, when I'm not around.
You're so (bleep) special, I wish I was special.
But I'm a creep.
I'm a weirdo.
What the hell am I doing here?
I don't belong here.
She's, running out again.
She's, running out.
She'll run, run, run, run, run.
Whatever makes you happy, whatever you want.
You're so (bleep) special, I wish I was special.
But I'm a creep.
I'm a weirdo.
What the hell am I doing here?
I don't belong here, I don't belong here.

i'm a big fan of radiohead, they can be annoyingly obtuse at times but rarely dull

here's some tunes from the other end of the spectrum

Running On Empty
Jackson Browne

Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels
Looking back at the years gone by like so many summer fields
In sixty-five I was seventeen and running up one-o-one
I don't know where I'm running now, I'm just running on

Running on - running on empty
Running on - running blind
Running on - running into the sun
But I'm running behind

Gotta do what you can just to keep your love alive
Trying not to confuse it with what you do to survive
In sixty-nine I was twenty-one and I called the road my own
I don't know when that road turned onto the road I'm on

Running on - running on empty
Running on - running blind
Running on - running into the sun
But I'm running behind

Everyone I know, everywhere I go
People need some reason to believe
I don't know about anyone but me
If it takes all night, that'll be all right
If I can get you to smile before I leave

Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels
I don't know how to tell you all just how crazy this life feels
I look around for the friends that I used to turn to to pull me through
Looking into their eyes I see them running too

Running on - running on empty
Running on - running blind
Running on - running into the sun
But I'm running behind

Honey you really tempt me
You know the way you look so kind
I'd love to stick around but I'm running behind
You know I don't even know what I'm hoping to find
Running into the sun but I'm running behind

The Load-Out/ Stay
Jackson Browne

Now the seats are all empty
Let the roadies take the stage
Pack it up and tear it down
They're the first to come and last to leave
Working for that minimum wage
They'll set it up in another town
Tonight the people were so fine
They waited there in line
And when they got up on their feet they made the show
And that was sweet--
But I can hear the sound
Of slamming doors and folding chairs
And that's a sound they'll never know

Now roll them cases out and lift them amps
Haul them trusses down and get'em up them ramps
'Cause when it comes to moving me
You guys are the champs
But when that last guitar's been packed away
You know that I still want to play
So just make sure you got it all set to go
Before you come for my piano

But the band's on the bus
And they're waiting to go
We've got to drive all night and do a show in Chicago
or Detroit, I don't know
We do so many shows in a row
And these towns all look the same
We just pass the time in our hotel rooms
And wander 'round backstage
Till those lights come up and we hear that crowd
And we remember why we came

Now we got country and western on the bus
R and B, we got disco in eight tracks and cassettes in stereo
We've got rural scenes & magazines
We've got truckers on the CB
We've got Richard Pryor on the video
We got time to think of the ones we love
While the miles roll away
But the only time that seems too short
Is the time that we get to play

People you've got the power over what we do
You can sit there and wait
Or you can pull us through
Come along, sing the song
You know you can't go wrong
'Cause when that morning sun comes beating down
You're going to wake up in your town
But we'll be scheduled to appear
A thousand miles away from here

People stay just a little bit longer
We want to play -- just a little bit longer
Now the promoter don't mind
And the union don't mind
If we take a little time
And we leave it all behind and sing
One more song
Oh won't you stay just a little bit longer
Please, please, please say you will
Say you will

Oh won't you stay just a little bit longer
Oh please, please stay just a little bit more

Now the promoter don't mind
And the roadies don't mind
If we take a little time
And we leave this all behind and sing
One more song
