I don't know about dys, honu, but we like that song, island man.

Just in case, y'all.

It's also the anniversary of dys' stroke. He and Diane have both been fighters, and I expect that both will become good church goers now. Razz

Well, folks, we know that we're rockin' when Raggedy does her thang. Thanks, puppy, for the great collage, and thank God they are all alive. Razz

Started to play "Betty and Dupree", but decided to hold that off til later.

Here's Mary from Peter, Paul, and Mary.

HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN
New words and music by Mary Travers-
©1995 Mapape Lake Music Publishing Co., ASCAP

There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
It's been the ruin of many poor girls
And me, oh God, am one

If you had listened to what your momma said
You'd be at home today
But I was young and foolish, oh Lord
You let a gambler lead you astray

Go tell my baby sister
Don't do as I have done
But shun that house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun

I'm going back to New Orleans
Your race is almost run
I'm going back to lay my head
Beneath that rising sun

There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
It's been the ruin of many poor girls
And me, I'm one, oh God
And me, oh God, am one

You poor girl, you are one

honu, dys would love that. You have a fabulous sense of humor, honey. Very Happy

Well, folks, it's Sunday and I love this one, so we'll dedicate this to D. and D.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

T'was Grace that taught...
my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear...
the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares...
we have already come.
T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far...
and Grace will lead us home.

The Lord has promised good to me...
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be...
as long as life endures.

When we've been here ten thousand years...
bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise...
then when we've first begun.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

is it time for the countdown yet ?
got hooked on youtube yesterday and wasted plenty of "valuable" Shocked time watching old new year's celebrations , including one with guy lombardo .

seems we still have another 2007 day ahead of us and every day counts , right ?
so here is ethel waters singing "i've found a new baby " - being played by lionel hampton on my cd .

http://www.nndb.com/people/096/000023027/ethel-waters-sized.jpg

they'll make sweet music together !
hbg

Quote:
Everybody look at me,
Happy girlie, you will see,
I've got someone nice, oh, gee!
Oh, joy, what bliss!

Just the treasure that I need,
Pure as gold and guaranteed,
Is he handsome? Yes, indeed!
Let me tell you this:

I found a new baby,
A sweet honey boy;
My fashion-plate baby
Has thrilled me with joy!

His new way of lovin'
Has made me his slave;
His sweet turtle dovin'
Is all that I crave!

Sweetest kiss, what a kiss, full of bliss, can't resist, somehow!
Tells me lies, but he's wise, naughty eyes mesmerize, I vow and how!

I don't mean maybe,
I just had to fall;
I found a new baby,
A new baby, that's all!

I found a new baby,
A sweet honey boy;
My fashion-plate baby
Has thrilled me with joy!

His new way of lovin'
Has made me his slave;
His sweet turtle dovin'
Is all that I crave!

Sweetest kiss, what a kiss, full of bliss, can't resist, somehow!
Tells me lies, but he's wise, naughty eyes mesmerize, I vow and how!

and let's swing a little more with ella and artie shaw and cole porter's "begin the beguine" :

http://www.allaboutjazz.com/articles/artieshaw2005_3.jpg

http://images.broadwayworld.com/columnpic/ndCole%20Porter.jpg

(shown with the music to "silk stockings")

Quote:
When they begin
the beguine
it brings back the sound
of music so tender
it brings back a night
of tropical splendor
it brings back a memory of green

I'm with you once more
under the stars
and down by the shore
an orchestras playing
and even the palms
seem to be swaying
when they begin
the beguine

to live it again
is past all endeavor
except when that tune
clutches my heart
and there we are swearing to love forever
and promising never
never to part

a moments divine
what rapture serene
to clouds came along
to disperse the joys we had tasted
and now when I hear people curse the chance that was wasted
I know but too well what they mean

so dont let them begin the beguine
let the love that was once a fire
remain an ember
let it sleep like the dead desire I only remember
when they begin the beguine

oh yes let them begin the beguine
make them play
til the stars that were there before
return above you
till you whisper to me
once more darling I love you
and we suddenly know what heaven we're in
when they begin
the beguine

http://www.musicweb-international.com/film/2002/Jun02/Silk_Stockings.jpg

Quote:
Silk stockings,
I touch them and find,
The joys that remind me of you . . .

Silk stockings,
That give me again,
Your shy laughter when,
They were new . . .

Silk stockings,
What bliss they recall,
When love promised all,
Forever more . . .

A pair of silk stockings,
So soft and so sheer,
The dear silk stockings you wore!

Silk stockings,
What bliss they recall,
When love promised all,
Forever more!

( A pair of silk . . . )
Silk stockings,
So soft and so sheer,
The dear silk stockings
you wore!

Canberrans should be able to leave their umbrellas at home tonight with the severe storms that lashed the capital last New Year's Eve unlikely to reappear.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast fine and mostly sunny conditions for today and tomorrow, with tops of 32 degrees and 33 degrees respectively.

Hey, hbg. Marvelous pictures and, of course, great jazz songs by performers that cannot be beaten. Thanks, Canada.

This is Letty doing a remote from Orlando, Florida, and I happened to notice that today is Val Kilmer's birthday. In the waning hours of 2007, let's recall what a sterling performer that man is, and cite a few details of his life. He is a master vocalist, and has several cd's with his songs. He is more than just a fine actor, folks.

He did his own singing in the movie about the doors, so let's hear this
controversial song, shall we?

You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldn't get much higher
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire

The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire, yeah

The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire, yeah

You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldn't get much higher
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire
Try to set the night on fire
Try to set the night on fire
Try to set the night on fire

Teardrops On My Guitar
Taylor Swift
Album: Taylor Swift: 2006

Drew looks at me andI fake a smile so he won't see
What I want and need everything that we should be
I bet she`s beautiful that girl he talks about
And she`s got everything that I have to live without

Drew talks to me, I laugh cause it`s just so funny
I can`t even see anyone when he`s with me
He says he`s so in love, He`s finally got it right
I wonder if he knows he`s all I think about at night

He`s the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star
He`s the song in the car I keep singing
Don`t know why I do

Drew walks by me, can he tell that I can`t breathe
And there he goes, so perfectly
The kind of flawless I wish I could be
She better hold him tight, give him all her love
Look in those beautiful eyes and know she`s lucky cause

He`s the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star
He`s the song in the car I keep singing
Don`t know why I do

---- Instrumental Interlude ----

So I drive home alone, as I turn out the light
I`ll put his picture down and maybe get some sleep tonight

Cause he`s the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only one that`s got enough of me to break my heart
He`s the song in the car I keep singing
Don`t know why I do

He`s the time taken up but there`s never enough
And he`s all that I need to fall into

Drew looks at me, I fake a smile so he won`t see

Do you remember that rainy evenin', ah
That I drove you out, with nothin but a fine tooth comb?
(And you are bald!)
I know I'm to blame, well ain't it a shame
Bailey, won't cha please come,
Bailey, won't cha please come,
Bailey, won't cha please come,
Bailey, won't cha please come, ah,
Bailey, won't cha please come,
C'mon,
Baby, won't cha please come,
Yo!,
Baby, won't cha please come,

Paul Simon

Outragous

http://streamos.warnermusic.com/qtime/wmiuk/paulsimon/outrageousv_hi.mov

It's outrageous to line your pockets off the misery of the poor.
Outrageous the crime some human beings must endure.
It's a blessing to wash your face in the summer solstice rain.
It's outrageous a man like me stand here and complain.

But I'm tired, nine hundred sit-ups a day.
I'm painting my hair the colour of mud, mud, okay?
I'm tired, tired
Anybody care what I say? No!
I'm painting my hair the colour of mud.

Who's gonna love you when your looks are gone?
Tell me, who's gonna love you when your looks are gone?
Aw, who's gonna love you when your looks are gone?
Who's gonna love you when your looks are gone?
Who's gonna love you when your looks are gone?
Who's gonna love you when your looks are gone?
Who's gonna love you when your looks are gone?

It's outrageous the food they try to serve in a public school.
Outrageous, the way they talk to you like you're some kind of clinical fool
It's a blessing to rest my head in the circle of your love.
It's outrageous I can't stop thinking about the things I'm thinking of.

And I'm tired, nine hundred sit-ups a day.
I'm painting my hair the colour of mud, mud, okay?
I'm tired, tired, anybody care what I say? No!
Painting my hair the colour of mud.

Who's gonna love you when your looks are gone?
Tell me, who's gonna love you when your looks are gone?
Tell me, who's gonna love you when your looks are gone?

God will,
Like he waters the flowers on your window sill.
Take me, I'm an ordinary player in the key of C,
And my will was broken by my pride and my vanity

Who's gonna love you when your looks are gone?
God will,
Like he waters the flowers on your window sill.

Great song, edgar. The one by Taylor Swift. Never heard that one, but I do love the lyrics. "...tears on my guitar..." reminds me of "..while my guitar gently weeps..."

I think most of us here know all the variations of old Bill Bailey, Texas. Camped with a guy whose name WAS Bill Bailey. Great version by Bobby Darin.

Hey, Amigo. Welcome back, and I suspect that Paul Simon has just sung a philosophy, buddy. Thanks.

Well, well. It's Donna Summer's birthday today, too. Here's a great one by her, folks.

Think about me and you
think of all the changes we've
been through
the laughter an the tears, the
years together

little did we both know
when we fell we gave up all control
though times get hard
we're strong enough to carry on

'Cause
Love has a mind of its own
it moves in its own circles
and it roams where it will roam
love has a mind of its own
it holds our lives together
you're my heart, you're my home

stayed awake last night
told myself that this time we were
through
that passion wasn't pair, my heart
had changed
but then in the morning light
the feeling cut me like a knife
and then I knew
I couldn't walk away from you

'Cause
Love has a mind of its own
it moves in its own circles
and it roams where it will roam
love has a mind of its own
it holds our lives together
you're my heart, you're my home

We can drive ourselves so far apart
the world gets in between
before you know, the distance grows
till never we lose sight of the dream
but the wonder of it all
is how love will survive
it never fails to keep us going
it never fails to keep us alive

'Cause
Love has a mind of its own
it moves in its own circles
and it roams where it will roam
love has a mind of its own
it holds our lives together
you're my heart, you're my home
love has a mind of its own
it moves in its own circles
and it roams where it will roam
love has a mind of its own
it holds our lives together
you're my heart, you're my home

let's get the festivities underway with SPIKE JONES AND HIS CRAZY MERRYMAKERS :

http://www.musicweb-international.com/classrev/2003/Aug03/spike_Jones_8120679.gif

Quote:
Clink, clink, another drink
Plenty in the cellar when it's gone.
Drink, drink, the glasses clink
Making tinkly music till the dawn is breaking.

Clang, clang, who cares a dang?
What's the difference when you're on a spree?
Over the teeth, behind the gums,
Look out stomach here she comes
Hi! Have another drink on me.

Gurgle, gurgle, gurgle, gurgle.
Gurgle, gurgle, gurgle, gurgle.

Trinkle, trinkle, trinkle, trinkle.
Slice of cheese and bite of pickle
Doesn't even cost a nickel
Now to wash it down.

Clink, clink, no more to drink
I had a cellar full, but now its gone.
Drink, drink, the glasses clink
Like the anvil chorus and my head is splitting,
uh, brinking, uh, busting. Oh brother!

Oh, ow, what'll I do now
Pink elephants running after me.
Oh, that stuff is smooth as silk
From now on I'll stick to milk.
Nothing else to drink for me
.
Shocked Shocked Shocked

you have put plenty of the BUBBLY on ice , haven't you ?

and let's hear what SPIKE'S new year's resolution is going to be :

Quote:
This is my New Year's resolution:
When my mother-in-law begins to yell and shout
Through the window I would like to throw her out.
But I resolve not to do it, here is why:
I'm afraid of hitting someone passing by.
This is my New Year's resolution.

When I'm at the movies watching a love seen
And a lady's hat is blocking half the screen
I resolve not to shout, "Take off that hat!"
I'll remove it gently with a baseball bat.
This is my New Year's Resolution.

When I take a lovely lady out to eat
And she orders caviar instead of meat
I resolve to let the lady have her fill.
And of course I'll also let her pay the bill.
This is my New Year's Resolution.

When I'm sitting with my wifey on a bus
And a dear old lady stands in front of us
I resolve to be a gentleman discreet.
I'll politely offer her my wifey's seat.
This is my New Year's Resolution.

When my mother says, "Come in, it's time to eat."
And I keep on playing games out in the street
I resolve to rush right home now when I'm called
Cause my pop just got a hairbrush and he's bald.
This is my New Year's Resolution.

On the radio this year I hope to score
With some funny jokes you've never heard before.
I resolve not to tell a corny joke.
Hello, what's that? The church burned down? Holy smoke!
This is my New Year's Resolution.

In this coming year I'm going to be discreet.
Have the Slicker's playing music soft and sweet.
I resolve to treat Tchaikovsky tenderly
And set his second movement with TNT.
This is my New Year's Resolution.

the celebrations haven't even started and already SPIKE is seeing double !
it's going to be some doozy of a party !

Amigo, thanks for that great photo of Donna, buddy.

hbg, we, of course, love those delightful songs by Spike, and it is getting close for both champagne and pink elephants. Razz

Guess what this is from, folks:

"oh I think that I've seen everything when I see an elephant fly."

Today is Matisse's birthday and although I cannot show you his famous Icarus and Jazz, I do have a parody for you.

Your serigraphs look so nice to me
But I'm not so sure what they're supposed to be
You put a yellow dot right next to a blue
And it seems like I could too

Chorus:
Bright shapes everywhere to my surprise
How did you get them to organize
Your signature on all you do
Says its from Matisse to you
Says its from Matisse to you

When I look closely I see a mess
What is this picture I couldn't guess
But when I stand back and I take it all in
That's when the fun begins

Chorus

When you were older you cut paper instead
Never let your age go to your head
You used scissors like a kid would do
And we all wish we could too

Love it!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Henri

She uses vaseline(x3).

I know a guy who goes to shows
When he's at home and he blows his nose

The New Year
Death Cab For Cutie

so this is the new year.
and i don't feel any different.
the clanking of crystal
explosions off in the distance (in the distance).

so this is the new year
and I have no resolutions
for self assigned penance
for problems with easy solutions

so everybody put your best suit or dress on
let's make believe that we are wealthy for just this once
lighting firecrackers off on the front lawn
as thirty dialogues bleed into one

i wish the world was flat like the old days
then i could travel just by folding a map
no more airplanes, or speedtrains, or freeways
there'd be no distance that can hold us back.

there'd be no distance that could hold us back (x2)

so this is the new year (x4)
