In a distant time, I met with the lead singer of an English band called The Chameleons. Mark Burgess is his name. Related to Anthony (A Clockwork Orange). This is my favourite song of theirs.

Tears (The Chameleons)

It's just coincidence
Well you can talk that way
But I have to say
I don't believe in it
And with the chill of chance
I decided to dance the days away
And I wasn't worried at all
Sneaking through the backdoor
No I wasn't worried at all
Dreams are what you live for
Waiting for the light to turn green
Carry me home
To the kindest eyes that I've ever seen
Carry me home
Can you tell me how will it be now
How will it be?

Well we were younger then
And the days were long and slow
But were we wiser then
I couldn't say
I wouldn't know
But I wasn't worried at all
I had someone to run to
No I wasn't worried at all
I knew which way the wind blew
Kicking out the chaos and gloom
Carry me home
I'll watch the ceiling spin round the room
Carry me home
Can you tell me how will it be now?
How will it be?

In the real world how will it be?
In a cold world how will it be?
In a lonely world
(Beg and crawl)
How will it be?
Will the ghosts just stop!
Following me

Now drawn into the sun
He was the only one
He cries out to everyone

For his only son
From the window of my room now
I can see the colour blue now
You can't even look in my eyes now
What would you see
If you could look into my eyes now
What would you see
What would you see
It's a coincidence
You can talk that way
I don't believe in it
I don't believe in it

teenyboone :
thanks for telling me a bit of the history of new orleans and the music that both i and mrs h enjoy .
i am lucky that i had one of my lp's signed some years ago by the humphrey brothers , sing miller , narvin kimball and frank demone .
you probably know that allan jaffe brought the group together sometime in the late 60's (?) , i believe . unfortunately he died rather young , however one of his sons has taken over the management of the group and plays the sousaphone that his dad played quite well . he did a very nice job of introducing all the band members and giving them credit for his musical education .
one of the performers we heard in NYC was alcide "slow drag' pavageau . the leader of the band was a tiny lady "sweet emma barrett" - her name survives on the SWEET EMMA record label .
my love of jazz goes back to growing up in germany - particularly the years after the war when i would listen to british and american forces network playing all the latest jazz tunes .
we are lucky that we live in a (small city) with a university (queen's u) that has a very active music department annd some great young jazz musicians . starting in january they'll be putting on some great jazz concerts and we can't wait to go and hear those up-and-coming artists .
i might add that i don't play an instrument and have a tin ear - but very much enjoy many different kinds of music - particularly most kinds of jazz .
thanks for your information , teenyboone !
take care !
hbg

btw we live on the "other" side of lake ontario , just a 30 minute drive from the 1,000 island bridge and NY state .

Ok, I'll have to quote The Peter Principle. "Pull is better than push any day". Well, all, slow and steady wins the race, I guess. Just ask honu. Razz

The Beatles - Your Mother Should Know (Lennon/McCartney)

Let's all get up and dance to a song
That was a hit before your mother was born.
Though she was born a long, long time ago
Your mother should know (Your mother should...)
Your mother should know (...know.)
Sing it again.
Let's all get up and dance to a song
That was a hit before your mother was born.
Though she was born a long, long time ago
Your mother should know (Your mother should...)
Your mother should know (...know.)
Lift up your hearts and sing me a song
That was a hit before your mother was born.
Though she was born a long, long time ago
Your mother should know (Your mother should...)
Your mother should know (Aaaah.)
Your mother should know (Your mother should...)
Your mother should know (Aaaah.)
Sing it again.
Da-da-da-da...
Though she was born a long, long time ago
Your mother should know (Your mother should...)
Your mother should know (Yeah.)
Your mother should know (Your mother should...)
Your mother should know (Yeah.)

What's Made Milwaukee Famous
Jerry Lee Lewis

Its late and she's waiting and I know I should go home

But every time I start to leave they play another song

Then someone buys another round and wherever drinks are free

What's made Milwaukee famous has made a fool out of me

Babys begged me not to go so many times before

She says love and happiness can't live behind those swinging doors

Nows she's gone and I'm to blame to late I finally see

What's made Milwaukee famous has made a loser out of me

Babys begged me not to go so many times before

She says love and happiness just can't live behind those swinging doors

Nows she's gone and I'm to blame to late I finally see

What's made Milwaukee famous has made a loser out of me

What's made Milwaukee famous has made a loser out of me

Bobby Darin

I didn't know what time it was
That I met you
Oh what a lovely time it was
How sumblime it was too
I didn't know what day it was
You held my hand
Warm like the month of may it was
And I'll say it was grand.
Grand to feel life, to be young, to be met, to be yours alone
Grand to see your face, feel your touch, hear your voice, say I'm all your own

And I didn't know what year it was
Life was no prize
I wanted love and here it was
Shining out of your eyes
I'm wise and I know what time it is now

Grand to feel life, to be young, and met, and yours alone
Grand to see your face, feel your touch, hear you voice, say I'm your own

I didn't know what year it was
Life was no prize
I only wanted love and here it was
Shining out of your eyes
I'm wise and I know what time it is now

G'day you good folks on the other side of the world, I thought I'd drop you a line seeing that Christmas is approaching. To give you an idea what Christmas is like 'down under' you can sing this song to that great Eagles tune "Hotel California". Incidently it was written by the Aussie Bulldog.

Christmas Day is approaching
And quite rapidly
Time spent with your loved ones
Presents under the tree

But I can't stand the weather
'Cause through my good mood it cuts
The sun is beating down upon my head
This heat is driving me nuts

Really wish I was somewhere
The atmosphere was cool
The kind of place I wouldn't have
To bathe in ice cubes or sleep in a pool

Proud to live in this country
I try not to complain
But the weather at this time of year
It always fries my brain

Because this is Christmas in Australia
Such a scorching place (such a scorching place)
Sweat upon my face
Plenty of heat when it's Christmas in Australia
It's that time of year (it's that time of year)
Barbecues and beer

No point in sitting and waiting
For any snow to appear
And you won't find no winter wonderland
If you come here

What you'll get is your skin burned
Dripping with sweat
And maybe a sunstroke
Worst you'll ever get

So I'll crank up the A/C
And just stay inside
Because every December brings a heat wave
So in here I'll hide

But still the temperature's rising
The trend repeats
Lie awake in the middle of the night
Sweating through the sheets

That's life when it's Christmas in Australia
What a state I'm in (what a state I'm in)
Sunburn on the skin
It's easy to tell when it's Christmas in Australia
Just look for a man (just look for a man)
With a lobster tan

Can't take the exhaustion
That this climate has caused
I guess it's just as well I don't have to dress
Up as Santa Claus

'Cause that red suit would feel like
An oven turned up high
And I would need that big fake beard
Just to wipe my forehead dry

Go out in December
And my tender skin will fry
I guess that I should feel relieved
That my birthday's in July

But I'm sick of roasting
This has really gone too far
Find my passport and I'll pack my bags
And move to Canada

Do you remember Bing Crossby's "White Christmas', well this is our Aussie version.

This parody is about what Christmas is like in Australia. As we have Christmas in summertime, we often have a bloody hot Christmas especially in the last few years including this years Christmas which it was too hot to even wear a singlet!!! Anyhow this is what we call an Aussie Christmas:

The sun is burning
The grass is dead
Singlet and stubby shorts we wear.
The weather is more than I could bear
In New South Wales, Australia.
But it's December 25
And the temperature is way over 35.

I'm having an Aussie Christmas
Just like the ones we always have.
Where our body tans glisten
Because we're all sweatin'
To the burning sun in the sky.
I'm having an Aussie Christmas
With sweat pouring off me day and night.
Our Christmases are always hot and bright
Unlike American Christmases, they are always white

Give me love
Give me love
Give me peace on earth
Give me light
Give me life
Keep me free from birth
Give me hope
Help me cope, with this heavy load
Trying to, touch and reach you with,
heart and soul

OM M M M M M M M M M M M M M
M M M My Lord . . .

PLEASE take hold of my hand, that
I might understand you

Won't you please
Oh won't you

Give me love

Give me peace on earth
Give me light
Give me life
Keep me free from birth

Blood From a Clone
George Harrison

They say they like it, now, but in the market it
May not go well as it's too laid back.
You need some oomph-papa, nothing like
Frank Zappa
And not New Wave they don't play that crap

Tyr beating your head on a brick wall
Hard like a stone
Don't have time for the music
They want the blood from a clone

I hear a clock ticking
I feel the nitpicking
I almost quit kicking at the wall
There seems a confusion, under the illusion
That they know just what will suit you all

Beating my head on a brick wall
Hard like a stone
Ain't got time for the music
They want the blood from a clone

There is no sense to it
Pure pounds and pence to it
They're so intense too makes me amazed
Don't want no music but, they're making you
sick with
Some awful noises that may get played

By beating their heads on a brick wall
Hard like a stone
Ain't no messing 'round with music
Give them the blood from a clone

Where will it all lead us
I thought we had freed us
From the mundane seems I'm wrong again
Could be they lack roots, they're still wearing
jack boots they're
Marching somewhere in the pouring rain

Beating my head on a brick wall
Hard like a stone
Don't have time for the music
They want the blood from a clone

Golden Age of Radio
continued

Parley Baer
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Birth name Parley Baer
Born 5 August 1914
Salt Lake City, Utah, United States
Died 22 November 2002

Years active 1940 - 1997
Parley Baer (5 August 1914 - 22 November 2002) was an American character actor in film, television, and radio.

Biography
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Baer had a circus background, but began his radio career at Utah station KSL. With a fairly high pitched voice often accompanied by a Western twang, he became one of the busiest radio performers in the late 1940s and 1950s.

His first network show was The Whistler which was soon followed by appearances on Escape (notably narrating "Wild Jack Rhett" and as the title patriot in an adaptation of Stephen Vincent Benet's "A Tooth for Paul Revere"), Suspense, Tales of the Texas Rangers (as various local sheriffs), Dragnet, The CBS Radio Workshop, Lux Radio Theater, The Six Shooter, and more.

In 1952, he began playing Chester, the unofficial deputy to Marshal Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke, eventually ad-libbing the character's full name, "Chester Wesley Proudfoot". (The character's name was changed to "Chester Goode" in the television series, which featured an entirely different cast.) Baer's portrayal of Chester was generally considered his finest and most memorable rôle and, as he often said, the one he found most fulfilling. Baer worked on several other Norman MacDonnell-produced radio shows, including the situation comedy The Harold Peary Show (aka Honest Harold) as Pete the Marshal, Rogers of the Gazette (loosely based on the early life of Will Rogers) as Doc Clemens, Fort Laramie , and The Adventures of Philip Marlowe.

As a charter member of CBS Radio's dramatic stock company, Baer played character roles on other CBS shows, including recurring appearances on Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar. Other recurring rôles included Eb the farm hand on Granby's Green Acres (the radio predecessor to television's Green Acres), Gramps on The Truitts, and Rene the manservant on the radio version of The Count of Monte Cristo. His later radio work included playing Reginald Duffield and Uncle Joe Finneman on the Focus on the Family series Adventures in Odyssey in the 1980s and 1990s. He also made a guest appearance as a cooking contest judge on Three's Company in the early 1980s.

As an on-camera performer, he was recognizable by both his voice and his balding, paunchy appearance, often as fussy or obstinate officials or neighbors. Television roles included obnoxious Mayor Stoner on The Andy Griffith Show, neighbor Darby on The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, frequent guest appearances on The Addams Family as insurance man Arthur J. Henson, and in later years, Miles Dugan on The Young and the Restless in the late 1990s. Film roles included parts in several live action Disney features, including Follow Me, Boys! (again as a mayor), The Ugly Dachshund, and Those Calloways, and Dave (as the Senate majority leader).

He also voiced Ernie Keebler in the cookie commercials before suffering a stroke in 1997 which affected both speech and movement. He recovered sufficiently to make a handful of appearances at old-time radio conventions and a guest appearance on Star Trek: Voyager before finally passing away from related complications in 2002, at the age of 88.

Thanks to all of our contributors for the delightful music. It's especially nice to see Imur back with us and hope he and his bride are happy and
fey. <smile>

Since I cannot access our archives for lyrics, I'll have to resort to my memory.

Chesnuts roasting on an open fire,
Jack frost nipping at your nose.
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like eskimoes

Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe
Help to make the season bright.
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow
Will find it hard to sleep tonight

They know that Santa's on his way
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh
And every mother's child is going to try
To see if reindeer really know how to fly.

And so I'm offering this simple phrase
For kids from on to ninety two
And though it's been said many times many ways
Merry Christmas to you.

And should our editors catch a few spelling errors, our listening audience won't know the difference, and that, edgar, was the golden age of radio.

Good morning WA2K radio audience.

Well, I have managed to realign the format somewhat. I guess it is better, folks, but we'll have to wait and see.

If I am correct, today is Jamie Foxx's birthday, so here is one by him.

Love love love brings change

When you look eye to eye with and angel don't mean that its always the end.
Sometimes its the start of a new blessing that comes in the form of a friend.
Now we all live in fear of when that day will come when memories are all we can hold.
The fire that burns is a natural love and it keeps us both warm when its cold.

Now all I wanna do is see ya laugh again and see that same joy in your eyes.
I know that your trying you just keep on smiling and everything passes with time.

Cause love brings change.
Love brings change
oh love brings change
Love brings change its a fact
Love love brings change
love brings change

Be still (be still) wait on it (wait on it)
on the blessings girl (on the blessings girl)
In the morning time yeah
Be still (be still) wait on it (wait on it)
Change is gonna come oh oh
I know that its hard on your spirit but dont let the pain take your soul.
Even though you live with it dont give in to it cause inside we're the same cause love brings change change
