'Zat You, Santa Claus? will be one the pieces they'll be playing .
as far as i know there is more than one band performing as PRESERVATION HALL JAZZ BAND . i believe the players switch back and forth between playing at PH and being on the road .
they;ll be in fort pierce and fort meyers early next year - i'll give you the link at the bottom - pehaps you can hear them , you won't regret it ! and their prices are quite reasonable - we are paying $80 for two tickets , much less than one would pay in NYC !

here they are when we saw them first in NYC .
SWEET EMMA - a really tiny woman - is on the right , she played the piano and was introduced very respectfully as "THE LEADER OF THE BAND" ! she also had some BELLS on her ankles to add to the music !

Well, thar's our puppy and she's viable and cool. Thanks Raggedy for the great montage. I vaguely recall J.P. Morgan, PA. Don't know Sven, however. Hey, pup, parts of the movie, Dirty Dancing were made at Mountain Lake. Hope the one the hbg's see is also good.

Before we venture still further into Presevation Hall, hbg. Let's hear this one that is all about the clutzy George and Brendan.

George of the Jungle

George, George
George of the Jungle,
Strong as he can be.
(Ahhhhhhhh)
Watch out for that tree.

George, George,
George of the Jungle,
Lives a life that's free.
(Ahhhhhhhh)
Watch out for that tree.

When he gets in a scrape,
he makes his escape
with the help of his friend,
an ape named Ape.
Then away he'll schlep
on his elephant Shep
While Fella and Ursula
Stay in step.

Well....George, George
George of the Jungle,
Friend to you and me.

Watch out for that tree.

Thanks for the link, hbg. My equipment is rather antiquated and it took a while to see everything.

So, there are two sites for the show. Buffalo and Toronto. That clears it up a bit.

Well, all. Time for Letty to clean up this studio's mess. Nothing seems to be working today.

Back later, all.

The Cadets

Stranded In The Jungle

I crashed in the jungle
While tryin' to keep a date
With my little girl
Who was back in the states
I was stranded in the jungle
Afraid and alone
Tryin' to figure a way
To get a message back home
But how was I to know
That the wreckage of my plane
Had been picked up and spotted
And my girl in lovers lane
And meanwhile, back in the states

Baby, baby, let's make romance
You know your old time lover hasn't got a chance
He's stranded in the jungle flat as he can be
So come on pretty baby just you and me
Meanwhile back in the jungle

The boys in the jungle had me on the run
When something heavy hit me like an atomic bomb
When I woke up and my head started to clear
I had a strange feelin' I was with cookin' gear
I smelled something cookin' and I looked to see
That's when I found out they was a cookin' me
Great googa mooga let me outta her
Meanwhile back in the states

Baby, baby, let's make romance
You know your old time lover hasn't got a chance
He's stranded in the jungle flat as he can be
So come on pretty baby just you and me
Meanwhile back in the jungle

I jumped outta the pot and finally got away
Frantic and worried about what my baby would say
So I jumped in the ocean and started to swim
But my chance of survival was gettin' mighty slim
So I thumbed down a whale who was headin' my way
And I reached the states in 'bout a half a day
And when I got to lovers lane I was almost dead
When I saw my girl, here's what I said

Baby, baby, this man is no good
Baby, baby, you should've understood
You can trust me as long as can be
So come back pretty baby where you used to be
'Cause I love you, 'cause I love you
'Cause I love you, 'cause I love you
'Cause I love you

Speaking of "crash", edgar, this has been a jungle day. Thanks for the song, buddy. Your man is trying to leave Africa, and toto wants to stay.

Toto - Africa

I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She's coming in twelve-thirty flight
Her moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation
I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some old forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say: "Hurry boy, it's waiting there for you"

[Chorus:]
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what's right
Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti
I seek to cure what's deep inside, frightened of this thing that I've become

[Repeat chorus]

[Instrumental break]

Hurry boy, she's waiting there for you

[Repeat chorus]

It's one of my favorites too, Letty. We sang this song in school, when schools had a music program. Sad, isn't it? When school budgets are cut, music and art are the first to go! They're the two things I remember most.
You're such an inspiration!
Sharon

Good morning, WA2k listening audience.

ah, edgar, what a perfect song for today. Here's one for you, Texas.

http://www.whatsaiththescripture.com/Graphics/Christmas.WStS/Christmas_Bells.sm.jpg

I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along the unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
And in despair I bowed my head
"There is no peace on earth," I said,
"For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men."
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
"God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men."
Till ringing, singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

Interesting, folks, that the last two stanzas of Longfellow's poem were omitted because it reflected the dispair of the Civil War.

There are two melodies to this poem that was set to music. I like them both.
Cool

One of the best Christmas songs was written the year I was born.

White Christmas
Irving Berlin 1942

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten
and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

Well someone must have done something magic. It's that time of year, you know.

Sharon, thank you. I am glad that I can be someone's inspiration.

hbg, I have had a great deal of trouble getting into our studio. I do wish I could go to Fort Myers. We camped there years ago and on Christmas.

edgar, it seems that all has worked out well. My word, I think everyone knows White Christmas just as we all must know Walking in a Winter Wonderland.

I must say goodnight as it is way past my bedtime.

Thank you all.

Good morning, WA2K folks. How about a little levity to begin the day.

Will American be singing...

Every morning
Every evening
Ain't we got fun
Not much money
Oh but honey
Ain't We Got Fun
The rent's unpaid dear
We have'nt a bus
But smiles were made dear
For people like us

In the winter
In the summer
Don't we have fun
Times are bum and getting bummer
Still we have fun
There's nothing surer
The rich get rich and the poor get children
In the meantime
In between time
Ain't we got fun

Every morning Every evening
Don't we got fun
Twins and cares dear
Come in pairs dear
Don't we have fun
We've only started
As mommer and pop
Are we downhearted
I'll say that we're not

Landlords mad and getting madder
Ain't we got fun
Times are bad and getting badder
Still we have fun
There's nothing surer
The rich get rich and the poor get laid off
In the meantime
In between time
Ain't we got fun

Night or day-time
It's all play-time
Ain't we got fun
Hot or cold days
Any old days
Ain't we got fun
If wifie wishes
To go to a play
Don't wash the dishes
Just throw them away

Street car seats are awful narrow
Ain't we got fun
They won't smash up our Pierce Arrow
We ain't got none
They've cut my wages
income tax will be so much smaller
When I'm paid off
I'll be laid off
Ain't we got fun

Well, folks, there's our Raggedy with a delightful quartet. Seems to me that the world wide web is a bit recalcitrant. Perhaps the reason is the season. Thanks, puppy, for the pixes. (perhaps we should make that pixies. Razz )

I recall the movie "Untamed Heart" with Marisa Tomei, and although I thought "My Cousin Vinny" was hilarious I liked the "heart" one with Christian Slater.

From that movie, this wonderful song by Nat Cole:

There was a boy
A very strange enchanted boy
They say he wandered very far, very far
Over land and sea
A little shy and sad of eye
But very wise was he

And then one day
A magic day he passed my way
And while we spoke of many things
Fools and kings
This he said to me
"the greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return"

The Gold Diggers Song (We're In the Money)
Ted Lewis

Were in the money, Were in the money;
Weve got a lot of what it takes to get along!
Were in the money, the skies are sunny;
Old man depression,you are through,
You done us wrong!
We never see a headline
bout a breadline, today,
And when we see the landlord,
We can look that guy right in the eye.
Were in the money, Come, on my honey,
Lets spend it, lend it, send it rolling along.

Love that one, hbg. Too bad that our dollar has become weak. Elvis say it right about money.

You know, the landlord rang my front door bell.
I let it ring for a long, long spell.
I went to the window,
I peeped through the blind,
And asked him to tell me what's on his mind.
He said,

Money, honey.
Money, honey.
Money, honey, if you want to get along with me.

Well, I screamed and I hollered,
I was so hard-pressed.
I called the woman that I loved the best.
I finally got my baby about half past three,
She said I'd like to know what you want with me.
I said,

Money, honey.
Money, honey.
Money, honey,
If you want to get along with me.

Well, I said tell me baby, what's wrong with you?
From this day on our romance is through
I said, tell me baby, face to face
How could another man take my place?
She said,

Money, honey.
Money, honey.
Money, honey,
If you want to get a long with me.

Well, I've learned my lesson and now I know
The sun may shine and the winds may blow.
The women may come and the women may go,
But before I say I love you so,
I want

Money, honey.
Money, honey.
Money, honey,
If you want to get along with me.

Jeffrey Leon Bridges (born December 4, 1949) is an Academy Award-nominated American actor and musician.

Biography

Personal life

Bridges was born in Los Angeles, California, the son of Dorothy Dean (née Simpson) and actor Lloyd Bridges.[1] He shared a close relationship with his brother, actor Beau Bridges, who acted as a surrogate father during his earlier life when their real father was busy with work.[2] He is an uncle of Jordan Bridges. He married Susan Geston on June 5, 1977 after meeting her on the set of Rancho Deluxe in 1975, filmed on a dude ranch where Geston worked as a maid. The couple have 3 daughters, Isabelle (b. 1981), Jessica (b. 1983), and Hayley (b. 1985).

Film career

Bridges's first major role was in the 1971 movie The Last Picture Show for which he garnered a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He was nominated again for the same award for his performance opposite Clint Eastwood in the 1974 film Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. One of his better known roles was in the 1982 science-fiction cult classic Tron, in which he played Kevin Flynn, a video game programmer. He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1984 for playing the alien in Starman. He was also acclaimed for his roles in the thriller Against All Odds and the crime drama Jagged Edge. His role in Fearless is recognized by some critics to be one of his best performances. One critic dubbed it a masterpiece;[3] Pauline Kael wrote that he 'may be the most natural and least self-conscious screen actor that has ever lived'.[4] He is perhaps best known for his role as The Dude in the Coen Brothers' classic cult film The Big Lebowski.

In 2000, Bridges was nominated for his fourth Academy-Award for his role in The Contender. He also starred in the Terry Gilliam movie Tideland, his second with the director (the first being 1991's The Fisher King). He will play Obadiah Stane in the Marvel motion picture, Iron Man.

Other work

In his off time while on set, he has been known to document the filmmaking process by photographing fellow actors and on-set staff with a Widelux panoramic camera. He began doing this during the filming of Starman at the suggestion of co-star Karen Allen. He has published many of these photographs online and in print titled "Pictures".[5][6][7][8][9]

Bridges is also a cartoonist. Some of his "doodles" have appeared in various films, such as K-PAX and The Door in the Floor (a short story-within-story by John Irving).

Bridges narrated the documentary Lost in La Mancha (2002), a singularly unique filmographic witness of the "unmaking" of a Terry Gilliam retelling of Don Quixote, tentatively titled The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, which would have starred Johnny Depp as Sancho Panza and Jean Rochefort as the quixotic hero. Bridges has worked with Gilliam on The Fisher King and Tideland. Bridges also narrated the documentaries Lewis & Clark: Great Journey West (2002, IMAX), Raising the Mammoth (2000, TV), and The Heroes of Rock and Roll (1979, TV). He also voiced the character Big Z in the animated picture Surf's Up.

Bridges can be heard most recently as the voice behind Hyundai's 2007 "Think about it" ad campaign.

Tyra Banks
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Born December 4, 1973 (1973-12-04) (age 34)
Inglewood, California, United States
Occupation Talk show host, television personality and Supermodel
Height 5 ft 11 in (1.8 m)
Website www.tyrabanks.com

Tyra Lynne Banks (born December 4, 1973) is an American supermodel, television personality, and talk show host [1][2][3] She first emerged to prominence on the catwalks of Paris, Milan, London, Tokyo, and New York, but her work in the commercial world was her breakthrough. She is best known as hostess/judge of the reality television show America's Next Top Model since its 2003 debut, and is currently hosting her own Daytime Emmy Award-nominated talk show, The Tyra Banks Show. Banks is one of only four African Americans and seven women to have repeatedly ranked among the world's most influential people by Time magazine.

Early life

Banks was born in Inglewood, California to Carolyn Banks (née London), a business manager and medical photographer, and Donald Banks, a computer consultant.[4] The couple divorced in 1980, when Tyra was six, although the relationship of her parents and especially her brother Devin (born 1968) stayed friendly. Later, Carolyn married Clifford Johnson; she now goes by Carolyn London-Johnson. [5][6]

Banks attended Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles, California, a popular Catholic girls' school, where she insists that her classmates made fun of her because of her height and weight. Prior to graduating in 1991, she wanted to pursue modeling. She was accepted to Loyola Marymount University. However, instead of attending the university, she moved to Paris to pursue her modeling career.[7]

Career

Modeling

Within Banks' first week in Paris, other designers were so entranced by her presence on the runway that she was booked for an unprecedented 25 shows--a record in the business for a newcomer. She has done extensive print and/or runway work for fashion/advertising giants such as Anna Sui, Coors Light, CoverGirl, Badgley Mischka, Bill Blass, Cynthia Rowley, Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Donna Karan, Gemma Kahng, H&M, Isaac Mizrahi, Maria Snyder, McDonald's, Michael Kors, Milk, Nicole Miller, Nike, Inc., Oscar de la Renta, Pepsi, Perry Ellis, Randy Kemper, Richard Tyler, Rifat Ozbek, Swatch, Todd Oldham, Tommy Hilfiger, Victoria's Secret, XOXO, and Yves Saint Laurent. She has appeared on the covers of such magazines as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, and Elle. Banks was the first African American woman on the covers of GQ and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. In 1997, she received the Michael Award for Supermodel of the Year. Also in '97, she was chosen for the cover of the Victoria's Secret catalog, making her the first African American to be so honored. Banks retired from modeling in May 2005 to concentrate on her television show. She walked the runway for the final time at the 2005 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. On numerous occasions, she has been sought after to appear in Playboy magazine; however, she has turned each request down.

Television & film

Banks' television career began on the fourth season of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, in which she played lead character Will's ex-girlfriend Jackie Ames, and made eight appearances throughout the series. Other screen credits include Felicity, MADtv, Nick Cannon's Wild 'N Out (in which she was featured as special guest host and team captain), and The Price Is Right (guest-starring as a Barker's Beauty).

Currently, Banks can be seen on television as the hostess, head judge, and executive producer of the UPN (now the CW) television show America's Next Top Model. In addition, she hosts The Tyra Banks Show, a daytime talkshow aimed at younger women, which premiered on September 12, 2005 and recently began its third season, drawing over 1.9 million viewers an episode. The show features stories about everyday people mixed in with celebrity interviews, much like the early format of The Oprah Winfrey Show. Under the slogan "Every woman has a story...and it happened to Tyra too", Banks promotes her show using emotional flashbacks to her own childhood and adolescence. Many of the episodes deal with issues facing women today. The first two seasons of the show were taped in Tyra's hometown of Los Angeles, but beginning with the fall 2007 season, the show moved to New York City.

On the big screen, Banks has had minor roles in a few movies. Her first big screen role came in 1995 when she co-starred in the drama Higher Learning. She went on to co-star with Lindsay Lohan in the Disney film Life-Size, playing a doll named Eve who comes to life. Other notable roles include 1999's Love Stinks, 2000's Coyote Ugly, and 2002's Halloween: Resurrection.

Music

Banks has appeared in several music videos including Michael Jackson's "Black or White",Tina Turner's "Love Thing", and George Michael's "Too Funky" (with fellow supermodel Linda Evangelista). In 2004, she recorded her first single, "Shake Ya Body", which had a music video featuring the America's Next Top Model, Cycle 2 contestants.(Music Video) The video's world premiere was aired on UPN, but the single was a failure for Banks. She stated on Cycle 2 of Top Model that "Singing has been a passion of mine for a long, long time...6 years on the down low - been ducking in and out of studios cutting tracks," but on her talk show she stated, "I can't believe I wasted 6 years of doing something that I didn't finish...I was almost able to release my album 'T.Y.R.A' but since my music career hit rock bottom I quit." On her show, she commented to Carmen Electra, "Girl, that makes the two of us with music videos that people didn't like."[8]

Though "Shake Ya Body" was a failure, record producer Darkchild told JET in 2004 that Banks "has what it takes to pull it off...she had a hungriness to want to be in the studio all the time. Some people want to be divas in the studio and work for three or four hours. You had to tell Tyra to stop or she will keep you going".[9] As for her voice, Jerkins stated, '"People will be shocked. She can really sing, she's like between soprano and high alto. I challenged her vocally. I pushed her, but not too far. I pushed her where vocally it fit the track."[9]

Banks released a single with NBA star Kobe Bryant, titled "K.O.B.E.", which was performed on NBA TV, and had a single/soundtrack from the Disney movie Life-Size called "Be A Star". She also sang in the musical/movie Eight Crazy Nights.

A hobo comes up to the front door of a neat looking farmhouse and raps gently on the door. When the farm owner answers, the hobo asks him, "Please, sir, could you give me something to eat? I haven't had a good meal in several days."

The owner says, "I have made a fortune in my lifetime by supplying goods for people. I've never given anything away for nothing. However, if you go around the back, you will see a gallon of paint and a clean paint brush. If you will paint my porch, I will give you a good meal."

So the hobo goes around back and a while later he again knocks on the door. The owner says, "Finished already? Good. Come on in. Sit down. The cook will bring your meal right in."

The hobo says, "Thank you very much, sir. But there's something that I think you should know. It's not a Porsche you got there. It's a BMW."

Fabulous, Bob. Wouldn't you just love to see that man's face when he goes out to take a spin? Thanks, hawkman, for the great bio's.

Well, my goodness, folks, another Canuck. Deanna Durbin did the following song, but I recall it by Ella Fitzgerald.

Hummingbird, mockingbird, listen to me;
I got no nest, I got no tree.
Oh, but I'm happy as Heaven is wide;
I got a song bubbling inside:

Refrain

Can't help singing of a promise that April is bringing,
I am floating along on the crest of a song,
There are bells in my heart and they're ringing.

Can't help crowing,
Folks don't like it,
I know, but I'm glowing:

I can't help what they say;
Spring affects me this way,
And I gotta keep singing all day.

Repeat Refrain

I guess spring may be a little late this year.
