2 share 2007 Nobel Prize in physics By MATT MOORE and KARL RITTER 5 minutes ago

STOCKHOLM, Sweden - France's Albert Fert and German Peter Gruenberg won the 2007 Nobel Prize in physics on Tuesday for a discovery that lets billions of computer users store reams of data on computer hard drives.

The technology "can also be considered one of the first real applications of the promising field of nanotechnology," which deals with extremely small devices, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said in its citation.
Last year, Americans John C. Mather and George F. Smoot won for their work examining the infancy of the universe, studies that have aided the understanding of galaxies and stars and increasing support for the Big Bang theory of the beginning of the universe.

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Amen!

Puppy, you are precious. Thanks, Raggedy. Didn't want the Germans to be neglected. Razz

Who did your song, PA.? Not familiar with it.

In the intermin, one by The Who, listeners.

Boris the Spider
The Who

Look, he's crawling up my wall
Black and hairy, very small
Now he's up above my head
Hanging by a little thread

Boris the spider
Boris the spider

Now he's dropped on to the floor
Heading for the bedroom door
Maybe he's as scared as me
Where's he gone now, I can't see

Boris the spider
Boris the spider

Creepy, crawly
Creepy, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly

There he is wrapped in a ball
Doesn't seem to move at all
Perhaps he's dead,
I'll just make sure
Pick this book up off the floor

Boris the spider
Boris the spider

Creepy, crawly
Creepy, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly

He's come to a sticky end
Don't think he will ever mend

Oh, that's my favorite John Lennon song, Letty.

"A sidewalk mosaic spells out the word "Imagine" in a section of Central Park dedicated to Lennon. The area is called "Strawberry Fields," and is located across from Lennon's apartment where he was shot."

Ah, Raggedy, thank you for clearing that up, PA. I do know Strawberry Fields Forever, so let's listen.

Let me take you down
cause I'm going to strawberry fields
Nothing is real
and nothing to get hung about
Strawberry fields forever

Living is easy with eyes closed
Misunderstanding all you see
It's getting hard to be someone
but it all works out
It doesn't matter much to me

Let me take you down
cause I'm going to strawberry fields
Nothing is real
and nothing to get hung about
Strawberry fields forever

No one I think is in my tree
I mean it must be high or low
That is you can't, you know, tune in
but It's all right
That is I think it's not too bad

Let me take you down
cause I'm going to strawberry fields
Nothing is real
and nothing to get hung about
Strawberry fields forever

Always know sometimes think it's me
But you know I know when it's a dream
I think a "No" will mean a "Yes"
but it's all wrong
that is I think I disagree

Let me take you down
cause I'm going to strawberry fields
Nothing is real
and nothing to get hung about
Strawberry fields forever
Strawberry fields forever
strawberry fields forever

Help
The Beatles

Help, I need somebody
Help, Not just anybody
Help, You know I need someone
Help
When I was younger, so much younger than today
I never needed anybody's help in any way
But now these days are gone I'm not so self assured
Now I find
I've changed my mind, I've opened up the doors

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being 'round
Help me get my feet back on the ground
Won't you please, please help me

And now my life has changed in oh so many ways
my independence seems to vanish in the haze
But every now and then I feel so insecure
I know that I just need you like I've never done before

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being 'round
Help me get my feet back on the ground
Won't you please, please help me

When I was younger, so much younger than today
I never needed anybody's help in any way
But now these days are gone I'm not so self assured
Now I find
I've changed my mind, I've opened up the doors

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being 'round
Help me get my feet back on the ground
Won't you please, please help me
Help me. Help me, oooh

Well, edgar, it seem our navigator no longer needs help because he has found a woman he loves.

This is dedicated to him and his lady

Love Is Here To Stay
Written by George and Ira Gershwin

It's very clear our love is here to stay
Not for a year but ever and a day
The radio and the telephone and the movies that we know
May just be passing fancies, and in time may go

But, oh my dear, our love is here to stay
Together we're going a long, long way
In time the Rockies may crumble
Gibraltar may tumble
They're only made of clay
But our love is here to stay
But, oh my dear, our love is here to stay

Together we're going a long, long way
In time the Rockies may crumble
Gibraltar may tumble
They're only made of clay
But our love is here to stay
Our love is here to stay

I hope everyone will wish him well.

Divine Einstein! by Marian McKenzie & Walter Smith

(To the tune of "I'm Lookin' Over a Four-leaf Clover")

No-one's as dee-vine as Albert Einstein

Not Maxwell, Curie, or Bohr!

He explained the photo-electric effect,

And launched quantum physics with his intellect!

His fame went glo-bell, he won the Nobel --

He should have been given four!

No-one's as dee-vine as Albert Einstein,

Professor with brains galore!

No-one could outshine Professor Einstein --

Egad, could that guy derive!

He gave us special relativity,

That's always made him a hero to me!

Brownian motion, my true devotion,

He mastered back in aught-five!

No-one's as dee-vine as Albert Einstein,

Professor in overdrive!

My daughter thanks you, and we all thank you, teenyboone. I am simply the Program Director on WA2K radio; it's all of our listeners and contributors that make it work, and you are one of them.

Let's allow our palindromic ABBA say it for us, too.

I'm nothing special, in fact I'm a bit of a bore
If I tell a joke, you've probably heard it before
But I have a talent, a wonderful thing
'Cause everyone listens when I start to sing
I'm so grateful and proud
All I want is to sing it out loud

So I say
Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be
Without a song or a dance what are we
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me

Mother says I was a dancer before I could walk
She says I began to sing long before I could talk
And I've often wondered, how did it all start
Who found out that nothing can capture a heart
Like a melody can
Well, whoever it was, I'm a fan

So I say
Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be
Without a song or a dance what are we
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me

I've been so lucky, I am the girl with golden hair
I wanna sing it out to everybody
What a joy, what a life, what a chance!

So I say
Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be
Without a song or a dance what are we
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me

and now it's time to say goodnight, and this is my goodnight song:

Prayer from Hansel and Gretel
Humperdinck

When at night I go to sleep,
Fourteen angels watch do keep.
Two my head are guarding:
Two my feet are guiding:
Two are on my right hand;
Two are on my left hand;
Two who warmly cover;
Two who o'er me hover;
Two to whom 'tis given
To guide my steps to Heaven.

From Letty with love

I'd rather be a sparrow than a snail
Yes I would, if I could, I surely would
I'd rather be a hammer than a nail
Yes I would, if I only could, I surely would

Away, I'd rather sail away
Like a swan that's here and gone
A man gets tied up to the cross

He gives the world its saddest sun
Its saddest sun

I'd rather be a forest than a street
Yes I would, if I could, I surely would
I'd rather feel the earth beneath my feet
Yes I would, if I only could, I surely would

Rehearsals for Retirement
By Phil Ochs

A G D A
The days grow longer for smaller prizes
A G D A
I feel a stranger to all surprises
Bm E A
You can have them I don't want them
C#m D
I wear a different kind of garment
F#m E
In my rehearsals for retirement

The lights are cold again they dance below me
I turn to old friends they do not know me
All but the beggar he remembers
I put a penny down for payment
In my rehearsals for retirement

D A - A7
Had I known the end would end in laughter
F#m E
I tell my daughter it doesn't matter

The stage is tainted with empty voices
The ladies painted they have no choices
I take my colors from the stable
They lie in tatters by the tournament
In my rehearsals for retirement

Where are the armies who killed a country
And turned a strong man into a baby
No comes the rabble they are welcome
I wait in anger and amusement
In my rehearsals for retirement

Had I known the end would end in laughter
Still I tell my daughter that it doesn't matter

Farewell my own true love, farewell my fancy
Are you still owin' me love, though you failed me
But one last gesture for her pleasure
I'll paint your memory on the monument
In my rehearsals for retirement

Good morning, WA2K listeners and contributors.

edgar, that was an unusual song by Paul, but although compressed, it says more than we think, right?

Rather sad song by Phil, and knowing the outcome makes the lyrics almost prophetic.

Well, folks, you think you know a singer and a poet and then you discover something that doesn't always fit. The line in Phil Ochs song, "farewell my fancy" led me to this excerpt from Walt Whitman.

On, on the same, ye jocund twain!
My life and recitative...
...I and my recitatives, with faith and love
Waiting to other work, to unknown songs, conditions,
On, on, ye jocund twain! continue on the same!
And again:

Good-bye my Fancy,
Farewell dear mate, dear love!
I'm going away, I know not where
Or to what fortune, or whether I may ever see you again,
So Good-bye my Fancy....
If we go anywhere we'll go together to meet what
happens,
Maybe we'll be better off and blither, and learn
something,
May-be it is yourself now really ushering me to the true
songs (who knows?)
May-be it is you the mortal knot really undoing, turning
- so now finally
Good-bye - and hail, my Fancy.

Back later, folks, with a happier tune.

Well, fancy that, Raggedy. Hmmm, wasn't Joan "Mommy Dearest"? Razz

Here's a crazy kids song from which I learned several things, folks.

The Animals In The Desert (Sung to: The Wheels On The Bus)

The coyote in the desert howls Awwwwooooooowwwww
Awwwwooooooowwwww
Awwwwooooooowwwww
The coyote in the desert howls Awwwwooooooowwwww
All night long!

The rattlesnake in the desert goes hiss hiss hiss
hiss hiss hiss
hiss hiss hiss
The rattlesnake in the desert goes hiss hiss hiss
All night long!

The jackrabbit in the desert hops like this
hops like this
hops like this
The jackrabbit in the desert hops like this
All night long!

The roadrunner in the desert runs fast like this
runs fast like this
runs fast like this
The roadrunner in the desert runs fast like this
All night long!

The javalina (prounounced hav-a-leen-a) in the desert snorts like this
snorts like this
snorts like this
The javalina in the desert snorts like this
All night long!

The gila (prounounced hee-la) monster in the desert crawls slow like this
crawls slow like this
crawls slow like this
The gila (prounounced hee-la) monster in the desert crawls slow like this
All night long!

The scorpion in the desert stings like this OUCH!
stings like this OUCH!
stings like this OUCH!
The scorpion in the desert stings like this OUCH!
All night long!

Love it, but do they have such a thing as desert hawks, or is that species found only in Boston.

What a coincidence! Yesterday I decided to watch an old Disney true life feature titled The Living Desert. In it there was a fight between a red tailed hawk and a rattlesnake. The hawk won.
