Ian and Sylvia Tyson my early fav duo from canada, Ian wrote Someday Soon that Judy Collins had a hit with when she was still with Stone Pony's. They did cowboy music when it was totally not the music to do.(as opposed to country/western music)

Letty, I'm sure you recall Ian's beautiful Four Strong Winds.

Four strong winds that blow lonely, Seven seas that run high,
All these things that don't change, Come what may.
But our good times are all gone,
And I'm bound for moving on.
I'll look for you if I'm ever back this way.
Think I'll go out to Alberta,
Weather's good there in the fall.
Got some friends that I can go to working for,
Still I wish you'd change your mind
If I asked you one more time,
But we've been through that a hundred times or more.

If I get there before the snow flies,
And if things are going good,
You could meet me if I send you down the fare.
But if you wait until it's winter,
It will be no good
'Cause that wind sure can blow way out there.

I've been lucky enough to hear Ian in concert several times in the past decade - turned the hamburger's onto cowboy poetry as well. I think mrs. hamburger and her friend Glenys might have even swooned during the concert at the fairgrounds (after the celebrity milking competition - my hometown's a real hometown kinda place)

This song makes my heart go cathunk each time I hear the opening chords

Song: Own Hearts Delight

Sung By: Ian Tyson/Slick Fork Music/CAPAC
CD: Cowboyography
Written By: Ian Tyson

Capo 2nd Fret

A
1.There's a light in the kitchen
E
As I cross the valley and head her on into the yard

My wife is watching from that light in the kitchen
A
As I cross that old cattle guard
D
I unload my horses -- Two Bits and Roanie
A E
And throw them a few Flakes of hay

My wife comes to meet me with that determined look
A
The first thing that I heard her say

Chorus:
D
Darlin' we haven't gone dancing
G A D
For such a long time now

It's been so long since we twirled around the dance floor
E A
I've almost forgotten how
D
So gas up the pick-up

I'll bring the babies
G E
They'll stay with the neighbors tonight
G A
If the band at the bar
D G
Can play waltzes and shuffles
D A D
I'm gonna dance with my own heart's delight

2.So I drank a cold one
I sang in the shower
I pondered upon marriage and such
They say this country was hell on horses and women
I guess it ain't changed all that much
We make a good team my lady and I
I couldn't ask for anything more
If you don't believe me
Just catch us tonight
We'll be the best dancers out on that floor

Repeat Chorus

Wow! So many chord changes, yawl.

In leaving, the appearance of Prospero on A2K has left me with this thought:

Through the relationship between Prospero and Caliban, Shakespeare shows how human flaws and deficiencies can be revealed in the conjunction of two vastly different worlds.

He reminds me of Setanta, Beth.

I'd rather be a sparrow than a snail
Yes I would, if I could, I surely would
I'd rather be a hammer than a nail
Yes I would, if I only could, I surely would

Away, I'd rather sail away
Like a swan that's here and gone
A man gets tied up to the ground
He gives the world it's saddest sound
Its saddest sound

I'd rather be a forest than a street
Yes I would, if I could, I surely would
I'd rather feel the earth beneath my feet
Yes I would, if I only could, I surely would

Buckets of rain
Buckets of tears
Got all them buckets comin' out of my ears.
Buckets of moonbeams in my hand,
I got all the love, honey baby,
You can stand.

I been meek
And hard like an oak
I seen pretty people disappear like smoke.
Friends will arrive, friends will disappear,
If you want me, honey baby,
I'll be here.

Like your smile
And your fingertips
Like the way that you move your lips.
I like the cool way you look at me,
Everything about you is bringing me
Misery.

Little red wagon
Little red bike
I ain't no monkey but I know what I like.
I like the way you love me strong and slow,
I'm takin' you with me, honey baby,
When I go.

Life is sad
Life is a bust
All ya can do is do what you must.
You do what you must do and ya do it well,
I'll do it for you, honey baby,
Can't you tell?

Do not surround me with wreaths of flowers
Nor place upon my body the signs of a fetish
Nor crescent cross phallus or sun
But bury me in an apple orchard
That I might touch your lips again

Look at me when you glance
At the spring apple flower
Speak of me into a breeze
Blowing over your fingers
Taste of me when your lips taste the froth
Foaming out of the apple meat

Do not surround me with wreaths of flowers
Nor place upon my body the signs of a fetish
Nor crescent cross phallus or sun
But bury me in an apple orchard that I might touch your lips again

Hurdy Gurdy Man - Donovan

Thrown like a star in my vast sleep
I open my eyes to take a peep
To find that I was by the sea
Gazing with tranquillity
'Twas then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man
Came singing songs of love
Then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man
Came singing songs of love

Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy
Hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy
Hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy
Hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang

Histories of ages past
Unenlightened shadows cast
Down through all eternity
The crying of humanity
'Tis then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man
Comes singing songs of love
Then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man
Comes singing songs of love

Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy
Hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy
Hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang

Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy
Hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang
Here comes the roly poly man
And he's singing songs of love
Roly poly, roly poly, roly poly
poly, he sang
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy
Hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy
Hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang

Good morning, WA2K radio fans and staff.

So many unusual and varied songs, thanks to ehBeth, edgar, and dys. I must admit, listeners, that I had heard none of them. However, I will certainly search out Ian this morning when I have a moment or two.

Raggedy, You are too gracious. Of course, I suppose I could resemble Ursula on a good day. Cool I am, however, familiar with all of your celebs except one.

op.ed.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am dumb struck at the news that the GOP's in the state legislature are still attempting to interfere in the case of Terry Schiavo. As someone once said, had it been up to God, she would have died peacefully long ago; it is the machinations of misguided zealots and politicians which are playing havoc with the private lives of our citizens. It is my firm belief that as long as governments try to make decisions for our personal lives, neither life nor property is safe.

Lights, Camera, Action!
Ok now everyone enter stage left, hold your signs so the camera can read them but please don't obscure your faces showing wailing and gnashing of teeth, you will have 2:30 secs to get your message across before we cut to Sen Frist. Hold your cups of life giving water directly in front of the camera with the red light on while sobbing "let Terri live" while ignoring the immense heart-ache to all those immediately involved. This is important so please please please demonstrate piety over reason. We will only have the cameras here for a short time and must make the most of the situation. (let us pray the Terri lives long enough that we get really good media coverage)
Quote:
PINELLAS PARK, Fla. -- Activists holding a vigil near where Terri Schiavo is living said they plan to try to bring the brain damaged woman a cup of water today.

dys, I have no idea what motivates such behavior. Is it real? Perhaps, but I don't think so. It is more like the fifteen minutes idea, I think. The thing that really troubles me, listeners, is the fact that legislation may be introduced to thwart even the living will. (incidentally, I loved the way you presented the item. I would have preferred insight, camera, action)

I realize, radio audience, that it would be difficult for any of us to release those that we hold so dear, but that is NOT the issue. We all must put ourselves in Terry's place. Thereby hangs the real situation. At this point in my life, I would NEVER want to live out my existence in a hospital bed, notwithstanding the burden that it would place on those who are in attendance.

I noticed in a thread created by Phoenix, that fbaezer's mother died and the entire idea was that he was at peace with himself, although anguished, that she could go with some measure of grace.

Well, I have looked into several things this morning. One was Ian and the other Erte.

As long as I can be mobile and enjoy music, art, poetry and the companionship of those of you here, I will continue to function as it was intended for us to function.

Off my tub-bucket now. <smile>

Easter will soon be here, and for those of us who think on the message, celebrate life because that is the most powerful implication of the season.

Good morning!

Aggie--I've seen a picture of our Letty in her professional singer days, wearing a long dress with a look of classic beauty. Yes, indeed, she does bear some resemblance to Ursula Andress.

Since we have listeners from around the world, here is a general forecast for the North America. I'll be back with something for Europe and Australia, where most of the other listeners live.
