Here's a small example of how lucky I am. We received two holiday greetings today. One from a couple we met on our transCanada train tour in August 2003. They live in Reno, but have family all over California and in Texas. I still remember when they offered us the use of their second home at Lake Tahoe. There were at least 50 other couples on that tour, but I'm pretty sure they didn't make the same offer to all the others. The other holiday greetings was from a couple that lives in Utah. I met them on my first tour to Egypt in 1998. He's a judge and law professor, and they have visited us twice here in California. On one visit, we drove to the Jelly Belly Candy Factory and had lunch at a very nice restaurant in Napa. On their second visit, we just had time to have lunch at the local Fish Market restaurant. dys wrote me an email asking about the Europe Gathering for May, and trying to coincide our itineraries so we can spend some time together in Amsterdam. I also got an email from the Canuk from Vancouver that was on the same transAtlantic cruise to say "hi," and to keep in touch. Just a real lucky guy.

eoe, is there a cheap knockoff of that outfit? panzade's incredibly smart dog (no matter how much I try, mine hasn't learned to do that yet) would look quite 'fetching' in it. <rim shot, tumbleweeds....>

Good morning WA2K radio listeners and staff. We are delighted to welcome Montana and her delicacies to our staff.

Bi, that simple observation should be our thought for the day.

C.I. you get stuff from all over, and how great it must be to have those kind of contacts. (exhale now).

eoe, that's the kind of dress that one must start practicing for at age five. Wow!

Msolga, please keep us informed on the lost and found among our listeners.

Dys, I'm not familiar with that song, but the phrase "the movie of our lives" is particularly haunting--from reel to real!

Panz, That is one fantastic picture, and although Cav's dog is not, as yet, able to accomplish that feat, I'm certain that he will come up with something equally as clever. Love it!

Kelly Vinal is thinking over our offer for being our military correspondent in England, and we hope he decides to join the force.(may he be with us)

It's an overcast morning here in my little corner of Florida, and the weather man has predicted a cold front will be moving in due to the whimsical jet stream.

News in brief:
Ohio has finally decided that George W. Bush is the official winner by a margin of some 120,000 votes.

We would like our callers to let us know how the decorations go. Any partridges in pear trees out there?

That's disgusting Letty. MOST of the caviar we get here is from Iran, and often from dubious sources, despite the price. I avoid it. The last time I used Osetra, it was ordered privately from Russia. Salmon roe, or flying fish roe also makes a nice garnish on hors d'oeuvres, as does trout caviar. There is enough nice 'caviar' around to avoid annihilating the sturgeon. Here is one American source: http://www.kysmokedfish.com/seafood.asp

Theres about 30 species of sturgeon, the ones that produce good roe live in estuaries. Id imagine, that with enough prep and the right salt you could make Chesapeake sturgeon taste real fine and have that great texture.

whats the roe they use on sushi cav? is it salmon? its a little small but tasty.

I dont know why we dont do a genetic experiment and develop a beluga, Gulf of Mexico sturgeon.

Letty - You inquire about the partridge. I've just received tragic news about the PA partridge. Since the pear tree never turned out to be the cash crop forecasted , it has been replaced by a plastic hanging plant , which needless to say has left the partridge in a state of deep depression. The search is on for a new tree.

And the two turtle doves - Some snitch reported their romance during working hours and their jobs were eliminated.

And the four calling birds - well they've been replaced by an automated voice mail system, with a call waiting option. I heard through the grapevine that an analysis is underway to determine who the birds have been calling, how often and how long they talked. Sad

The rest of the story, which is on the internet, is too depressing to relate here.

I'll return shortly on a more joyful note with a Celebrity B.D.

What in the world is a spoon fish?

Farmerman, how about utilizing the frankenfish. They would crawl right up on the block and await their destruction.

Raggedy, You clever thing. I love it. Thank you for bringing your wit to our listeners.

I have just discovered that Bi-polar bear is a descendant of Shakespeare. Now we expect to hear a sonnet or two from the metal man.

My gawd, edgar. I think that onomatopoeia was called Conelrad or some such thing.

Bi, I didn't know that was a sonnet. Baaaaaaaadddddddddd bear! Shocked

Now back to our regularly scheduled program. Had this been an emergency, WA2K radio would have informed our listeners of proper precautions.

Celebrity birthdays this 7th day of December:

Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini, sculptor/painter/architect; Marie Tussaud, waxwork museum; Willa Cather, author; Eli Wallach, actor; Noam Chomsky, linguist and political activist; Ellen Burstyn, actress; Gregg Allman, singer/musician; Johnny Bench, baseball player; Tom Waits, singer/songwriter and

Harry Chapin, whose life was tragically cut short by an automobile accident and who is special to me not only because of all the worthy causes he supported, and his remarkable talent, but because shortly before his death when I went backstage after his concert to have him autograph his poetry book for me, he kissed me - Smile

farmerman, I can't speak for where you eat sushi, but here, it's mostly flying fish roe. That's the small orange stuff. If it's big and orange, it's salmon roe.

A song for Raggedy's Harry and that lingering kiss:
by: Harry Chapin

A child arrived just the other day,
He came to the world in the usual way.
But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay.
He learned to walk while I was away.
And he was talking 'fore I knew it, and as he grew,
He'd say, "I'm gonna be like you, dad.
You know I'm gonna be like you."

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when,
But we'll get together then.
You know we'll have a good time then."

My son turned ten just the other day.
He said, "Thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play.
Can you teach me to throw?" I said, "Not today,
I got a lot to do." He said, "That's ok."
And he walked away, but his smile never dimmed,
Said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah.
You know I'm gonna be like him."

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when,
But we'll get together then.
You know we'll have a good time then."

Well, he came from college just the other day,
So much like a man I just had to say,
"Son, I'm proud of you. Can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head, and he said with a smile,
"What I'd really like, dad, is to borrow the car keys.
See you later. Can I have them please?"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when,
But we'll get together then, dad.
You know we'll have a good time then."

I've long since retired and my son's moved away.
I called him up just the other day.
I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind."
He said, "I'd love to, dad, if I could find the time.
You see, my new job's a hassle, and the kid's got the flu,
But it's sure nice talking to you, dad.
It's been sure nice talking to you."
And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me,
He'd grown up just like me.
My boy was just like me.

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when,
But we'll get together then, dad.
You know we'll have a good time then."

And for Bear's ex:

Laura is the face in the misty lights
Footsteps that you hear down the hall
The laugh that flows on a summer night
That you can never quite recall

And you see Laura
On the train that is passing through
Those eyes, how familiar they seem
She gave your very first kiss to you
That was Laura, but she's only a dream

She gave your very first kiss to you
That was Laura, but she's only a dream

and segway into:

If you knew sushi,
Like I know sushi,
Oh, oh, oh what a fish.

Okay, I'll stop now for a brief interlude.
